Anyone getting one?

Its cool. Hope they have good software so the touchpad can compete with mpb trackpad though.

But a big weakness is if you don't put the phone in it (or you don't buy the phone. which means the price tag of this machine is +900) then it looks retarded and probably uncomfortable.

palm detection?

Because this was so successful with the wii u.

why when chromcast+cheap monitor+bluetooth keyboard and mouse is cheaper

But not RGB

How the heck does this work?

It could be nice for some random things but here's a lot of people bitching about having to look a little bit down for the little touch bar on fagbooks and how humongous those trackpads were and now you have this?

I don't think the dock is even useable without the phone, notice how they mention playing android games. It's just a battery/screen/keyboard/ssd combo.

where did they mention SSD? I think it's just battery + monitor + keyboard, like some older mobile docks. Nobody did the touchpad trick yet tho, that's pretty cool.

Main page
>POWER BANK PLUS
>Project Linda features a built-in power bank that quickly charges the Razer Phone while docked. Also, with 200GB of internal storage, Project Linda can house local apps, games, media, and offline phone backups.

It's a nice idea and one that's taken long enough to come into being. I had an idea that a few years ago Apple might bring out something similar where people just drop an iPhone into a slotted lapdock of the same style and use the iPhone itself as the touchpad but nobody did it.

The Motorola Atrix had the right idea years ago but Motorola fucked themselves by charging as much for the dock (just a screen, keyboard, and battery) as they did for the damned Atrix phone itself, like $499. I remember a few years back I found an Atrix in a pawn shop for $40 and grabbed it, then checked with Radio Shack (when they were still around) and found one of those lapdocks brand new on clearance for $19.99 - big drop in price obviously. I bought it, got it working with the Atrix very well, put a custom ROM on the Atrix (Android 4.4 which was leaked to an XDA member by someone inside Motorola which wouldn't release it officially even though they completed the firmware) and then sold the phone + lapdock for $150 a month later.

Razer has the right idea this time out, but what will murder it from day one is the price. I had no idea it would include 200GB of internal storage in the lapdock itself, that's kinda cool (assuming it's probably just some Flash memory, maybe even just a 200GB microSD card embedded inside), and obviously having a decent display to work with is great too.

But if they price it crazy high it's going to die fast, it needs to be under $300 - the further the better considering what it's going to be made of (a screen, a battery, the keyboard, and some storage). It's honestly seriously just not worth more than that in retail channels and if they try to push it over $300 it will be nothing but massive fail the moment it's available - and that's if they decide to manufacture it for real.

I wouldn't mind having such a setup myself, to be honest, still hoping some company creates an "all in one" package but nobody has done it right yet.

USB-C is the all in one port

Imagine if MS finally released Windows 10 on ARM and made something like this with the Surface Phone + Surface Book 3

It would actually be a pretty decent idea, a docking station that turns your phone into a laptop/SFF PC so you can keep everything in one device would be pretty cool, specially if it's powerful enough for image editing

It seems like a similar idea to the asus transformer tablet I had in college. That thing was great for taking to class since it was lightweight, had a touch screen along with the full keyboard, and an extra battery so it would last.

I dont really need a laptop anymore since I have one at work and a nice desktop at home that ill be upgrading soon. Also, I bought a blackberry keyone like two weeks before they announced the razer phone. Im satisfied because I love this keyboard, but I also like really nice speakers on a phone and razer nailed that. Oh yeah, and the keyone works on verizon, I believe the razer is gsm only? I need unlimited data on a network that I can actually get service with when travel. Especially to the OBX of NC, verizon is like the only one with service there.

I quite like the idea, but it'd have to be small for it to be more convenient than a laptop. Also as I said I like the idea. There's no chance in hell i'd buy one for whatever price this'll be (Wouldn't be surprised if it's $200-300).

I'd probably buy something similar if it could take any/ more than just one phone, and had a really nice screen.

This would be horrible.

From what I've seen this is right. Doesn't do anything without the phone. Bit like the Samsung Dex thingy.

Nigger

So basicly like asus transformer, except now with gaymen leds?
>a laptop thats phone-tier slow and without any real usefull software

...

This is the future...
If manufacturers agree to a few standards of docking and sync protocols. Fat chance.
The reality is there will be a mess of formats and the fragmentation will pose a significant possibility of killing it.

could've been interesting if it interfaced with windows and acted as a replacement for the touch bar on macbooks. Who gives a shit about playing android games.

The idea has been floating around for a while now and I think it's cool that they actually implemented it. I obviously won't be getting one since I'm not ballsy enough to buy a first gen phone let alone a large accessory just for that device. I think machines like these have the potential to destroy the thin and light market though. So instead of blowing $800 on a phone and $1500 on a good laptop you can get a ~$1200 bundle that handles your portable computer needs.

The two major things I think that need to take off for these to be attractive to people though is bluetooth headphones not being garbage and phones surviving drops without a case.

Phones running full linux distros for laptop mode when?

Faggots like blinking rainbow colors

...

>arm

I thought it was a cool idea when Microsoft wanted to do it, because it presumably would have been at least ARM Windows.
But I don't want an Android laptop. I .only use an Android phone because the alternative is a dumb phone or iOS

processing power

>ARM processor
>on a laptop
we've tried that. it didn't work out.

Also, does anybody remember the Motorola Atrix? It was a throttling pile of shit that became almost unusable after two weeks. Never again.

>no windows
People straight up just won't buy it.

Pic related is from 2011. I think they sold about 50 world wide.

dammit
keks me up every time

>ITT: idiots

The Snapdragon 835 is more than powerful enough to do most anything nowadays in such a setup so that's a non-issue. As stated previously this is a "dumb dock" so the idiots can comprehend it: there is no processing power in the lapdock itself, the Razer Phone when attached does everything over the USB-C connection (you put the phone in the lapdock, press the power button on the lapdock in the upper right hand corner of the keyboard and voila, a small motor pushes the USB-C connector into the base of the phone and locks it into place so it won't just fucking fall out if you decide to flip it all upside down).

It's a good idea, the battery in the lapdock is about 53W/hr so it can run/recharge the Razer Phone 3-4x while powering the lapdock itself as well.

As stated previously, the price of this lapdock will be what could kill it or make it really popular, if Razer decides to actually manufacture it. It's better than having a Chromebook in some respects I suppose since that runs ChromeOS and can now run Android apps whereas a smartphone running Android should theoretically be able to do that better without the underlying conversion needed for the codebase.

Anyway, as long as the price isn't crazy fucking high (read: more than $300-350) then it could be a big hit for Razer with Razer Phone owners. More than that, it'll be dead before the first one even ships.

what do you mean it didn't work?
There are Snapdragon 835 Windows 10 laptops coming out soon, and the battery life of those will shit on x86 ones in day-to-day tasks

now that phones can do a shit ton more, this should be a thing more companies get into. I'd prefer if another brand did this, like google with the pixel, or samsung with the galaxy s. not like razer's bad or anything but i don't want that logo on anything i own

For what? to play shitty ARM games?

>we've tried that. it didn't work out.
Wut.

yeah would be nice for google to do it
also as they control the OS more could be sweet

the atrix was an awesome phone though.

how would you know what faggots like.

And since the Razer Phone has an unlockable bootloader there's always the possibility one could actually get that Windows 10 for ARM working on it if you absolutely must do such a horrible terrible fucking atrocious thing.

Chromebooks.
They're shit.

It was. I wish I got the lap dock but ultimately decided it was useless.

For this idea to take off the phone has to ship with some specialty desktop software like libre office or bootable chrome OS.

>For this idea to take off the phone has to ship with some specialty desktop software like libre office or bootable chrome OS.

I can't see why people wouldn't just use Android as it runs on the device natively, there are office suites available that run on Android (Microsoft Word and whatever, Libre Office I think, etc), no reason to try and bog it down with multiple OSes at boot, that's ridiculous.

In the demo/review videos seen so far of Project Linda, the Snapdragon 835 is doing just fucking fine performance wise so I would only expect it to work as well if the product gets a full manufacturing run later this year.

Why?

$200
8 hrs battery life
100% compatible linux system

>shit performance
>they break down constantly
>freeze all the time
>shut down even more
they barely even work

Looks distracting as all hell.

Why does Razer have so much money to make retarded shit like this.

My Diamondback 3G had excellent build quality. My 2013 deathadder was falling apart in no time.

Of course the SD835 can handle all native apps well but who wants to use apps designed for touchscreen on a desktop? It's a gimmick and has no practical use.

Most apps don't even have phone and tablet support built in together. And most of the ones that do either the tablet UI isn't put together well or the phone UI.

>subjective
>false
>false
>false

They should put in a day for the headphone jack and market it towards DJs.

It's a really neat concept. Reminds me of something you'd see on Black Mirror. I'd like to see a future where phones are the dominant device and we just dock them into bigger devices.

Put in a dac*

now THIS is innovation.

>Buying gaymer shit marketed at tweens
yeah, naw cunt.

>unironically desires a"what's a computer world "

i'd buy that for a dollar

And it only plays android games. Great

It's not supposed to be a gaming laptop ya dumb nig

>Razer
>Main pics have games on them

I got this

>16:9
Of course not.

>Phones running full linux distros for laptop mode when?
SOON.
youtube.com/watch?v=C1ihYwqS32s

Poop execution of the idea.
>wasting the second screen
>low specs
>no dedicated "desktop mode"
>ugly design

Still want to get one of these for my SBC

U L T R A A U T I S M

Dumb idea. Why not just have a companion app like we've had for years and a real touch pad? This is never going to work as advertised, and will be the subject of many shitposts to come. Basically, it's a meme.
