Well?
Which do I go with, Sup Forums?

Xfce is pretty light, yet usable.

xf ofc

xfce or mate :^)

>gui installer

>unironically using xfces in the $CURRENT_YEAR

What's wrong with it?

you go with gentoo, obviously

>not using xf in the $CURRENT_YEAR

UI screen tearing for one

On my Debian. Machine I opted to not use a DE and instead use i3 with gaps. Because it is a 720p laptop the space efficiency of a tiled manager helps a lot.

I have shit taste in terms of DE.

I like i3, Gnome and unity.

Compton will fix that

go with webserver

It's UI tearing, not content tearing.
Which piece together software when KDE is almost as light and doesn't have this problem?

Fixed with xorg.conf.d or Compton.
Is that everything or is one easily fixable issue it?

How'd I do?

SSH Server

whoops

>SSH Server
I was about to say Print server, but I didn't know how many Pages per Second his printer supports.

HAHAHAHHAAHA

>debianVM

>xfeces

in all seriousness,
install xfce,
install nemo and set it as default file manager
install konsole, yakuake, ksysguard from kde
install terminator and make it your default terminal
install konqueror and use it as a universal browser, e.g. ftp.
make bottom bar kill
create an new bar at the bot,
move the opened windows list from the top to the bottom, along with the virtual spaces plugin and the show desktop
and there it is.
A fully fledged DE, modern and lightweight.
I used to replace xfwm with kwin, but since kwin introduced that wayland crap, it's unusable, and since 2015 xfwm supports all the gestures the kwin supports.
If you want a tiling wm, you can replace xfwm with a tiling one and xfce won't even bother.

actual useful content
on my Sup Forums?

>all this hacked up shit
Just fucking use KDE proper, it's not much heaver than xfeces. If my T61 can run it fine than anything can.

konqueror is so outdated it's not even funny

by the book my reply is mostly out of topic except
>install xfce
also, when you ask stupid questions
>which DE do I choose Sup Forums?
you get stupid answers.
Sup Forums needs what /mlp/ had.
1 week ban and everything will come in order.

was actually not sarcasm'ing
your post shared one setup and experience/opinion of alternatives
this is useful for others (e.g. me), most likely more so than the usual low effort shit/b8 posts

running shitty composers that add 150% of input latency isn't a "fix" you dumb fuck

GNOME

I don't care if Sup Forums hates it we need a "standard" professional-level DE and GNOME is the closest thing to it.

>professional-level DE
>removes desktop icons
>knows what's best for you
>trojan'd systemd into every distro
right

>DeadIan

plain i3wm with some utilities from XFCE is based

fuck I forgot how bad the default font rendering on debian is

>kysguard
Dude weed LMAO

Install Solus

>gnome
>debian
>apt
enjoy at least half an hour or more of installing (yes installing, not downloading)

and you've measured that «your» half-baked pkg mngr does it faster?

This. i3wm with hjkl instead of jkl; and thunar file manager + tools you need is enough

This.
Not using text based debian (net install)

Xfce
>easy to understand
>easy to customize
>not bloated
>can make it really look nice if you want

Install openSUSE, or Fedora.

Debian is too difficult to install, even Linus can't install it.

Yes, UI tearing, you know, accelerated desktops can v-sync. Update your 12 year old GPU user.

You can easily fix it. Just install a font

yes
minutes
not a fucking hour more after downloading

>KDE is almost as light

>muh baseless claims are truuu, beleeb me

does xfce's file manager still crash when renaming files?

xfeces posters will literally defend this

Using i3 when fluxbox exists

>crippling yourself with an ancient non-tiling WM without sane defaults
sorry buddy, some of us need to be productive on these low-res shit monitors

No, what the hell

you're free to try the mini.iso just like i did

Xfce if you want a nice and fast interface or KDE if you don't care about resources and you just want a good looking UI which you can customize and add much useless/cool animations.

>or KDE if you want a buggy crashing inconsistent hacked-together mess that literally takes 3 times more memory and 2 times longer to boot
ftfy

Those are ancient
gnome uses easily more than 1.5gigs from a clean fedora install
KDE uses around 700mb

>30 August 2017
>ancient

sorry, make that 2.4 times longer to boot

threadly reminder

...

>text based debian (net install)
Idiot. He's using the net install.

>running shitty composers that add 150% of input latency isn't a "fix" you dumb fuck
no but the many threads on all distros forums have valid solutions, such as:
bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=167270

wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/intel_graphics#Tear-free_video
>but user I don't use arch
Doesnt matter, its universal. You're welcome you fuckin retard and learn how to ask for help next time.

>removes desktop icons
You can enable them in 30 seconds if you care.
>knows what's best for you
How's that a bad thing?
>trojan'd systemd into every distro
Please point exactly where in the source code is the problem with SystemD. Checkmate.

XFCE>KDE>LXDE>Poo>Pee>Gnome

Use this
wiki.manjaro.org/index.php?title=Improve_Font_Rendering
and
sudo apt remove fonts-liberation; sudo apt install -y fonts-liberation2

>yes installing
You mean something that depends completely on your hardware? How can you attempt to pass this as if it was applicable to all scenarios? Are you really this ignorant or actually shilling? GNOME took about 40 seconds to install on my computer, and about 3 minutes to download.
>inb4 s-sorry, I only tried it in a resource-starved VM
Then you're not qualified to talk about it as if you knew stuff. Either run it daily or stay pleb.

>you can re-enable it (until we remove the option after a few versions)
>"gently" pushing decisions onto users is a good thing, we know what's best for everyone (e.g. nobody has machines without SSDs)
>you can't point to an exact place in systemd that says "this backdoors the user, xoxo RedHatNSA" hurr durr
the lennartbot cliche in a nutshell

Poo>pee>your opinion

so which package management system do YOU use

No, it only used to crash during drag and dropping from the desktop into the file manager, but they have apparently fixed that a few months ago.

Poo>pee>my opinion>your opinion

>having a gui

Did you ever analyze malware or program a GUI application without a DE?

Stupid noob..

>debian internet defence force
so salty

>don't have any actual arguments
>"u so soltey"
stop embarrassing yourself, laddey

>t. denial

>run it daily
nope. not doing that again. ever. not really into s&m

t. Arch toddler
