yes but don't you prefer running a chinese botnet firmware?
Camden James
err no. you might even get an ad injection if you buy from some shady redistributor.
Brayden Myers
Consumer grade AIO routers are shit in general. You're better off rolling with a separate router, switch, and access points.
Gavin Anderson
My Archer C7 with LEDE is running without any issues. It even has hardware NAT now.
Jack Stewart
hahahahahah
Noah Gomez
i was in the beta testing pool for a router manufactuer for a while. got five routers within a year.
got to beta test a $$$ router from a major router manufacturer last year
honestly if I didn't have all the free hardware I'd have ubiquiti everything. Edgerouter X as the primary router and then Unifi APs throughout the house (complemented by unmanaged gigabit switches for anything that had hardwired internet).
David Diaz
>1 same as yours >2 vanilla, up to date >3 I'm afraid to mess everything up
Kayden Miller
with LEDE. There are better routers out there, but I've become attached to the look of those ugly, blue bricks.
Adam Murphy
I kinda miss my archer, the google fiber botnet box does all the config through the cloud and is really fucking disgusting... but my internet bill is half what it was and I have gigabit, so I guess its worth it.
Thanks for reading my blogpost.
Kevin Morgan
1) Archer C8 2) DD-WRT, latest release. Why does it suck? Werks 4 me 3) No, isn't that expensive, and will it give me any real benefits on my small home network? Also, a DIR-505 with OpenWRT as an access point for upstairs.
I don't. The wifi is just for tablets, mobile phones and other portable shit. I've got cat.7 (lol) cabling to every room that could conceivably house a network device.
humm, I read the link but it all sounds like buzzwords, care to expand a bit?
Jonathan Brooks
>I bet you all have Bufferbloat on your router.
I did but I fixed it with LEDE
Josiah Edwards
same here, I've got all cabled, I only use wifi for phones tablets and tv boxes
I'm getting the max speed in every device
Jeremiah Powell
>talking about router management responsibly >image is a shitty combo kit >talks about AP os for combo kits
>he uses AP flavor OS for his shit box combo box
kys fag get a real router
Christopher Sanchez
Should I upgrade from my Asus Dark Knight router? Seems to get decent firmware updates considering the last one was last November despite it being a 2013 router
Charles Bell
>Bufferbloat
I got a C on that test. Goddamn it.
Brandon Garcia
that's cute, but if i switch from stock firmware on my wdr4300 i won't have hardware nat for my gigabit internet
Elijah Young
Brainlet status here why do some routers have USB ports? Why would you want to plug a USB drive into a router
Cooper Diaz
HAHAHAHAHAHHA SUCK IT NIGGER.
Got an A for Bufferbloat.
Joshua Murphy
I already took care of my router's bufferbloat.
David Gutierrez
Yeah that's fiber for you, my isp provide 3 different fiber box which made huawei, tp link and siemens (i ask friend of mine which use same isp they have 3 different fiber modem/box). Can't even buying yourself and use it, rent only kek. I get the huawei one though.
If it still works don't. That one model always overheating right (reaching 60-70c)? I own one before it kill itself but it's asus rt n900 not darknight.
Tethering from phone so you can bring it everywhere, flashdrive/external drive to share for everyone on same network.
Aaron Miller
Is Gargoyle just Openwrt/LEDE but with a retard friendly UI?
Asher Russell
yes its an updated version of Openwrt
LEDE is recommended right now and OpenWRT will basically re-absorb LEDE in a few months.
Ryder Taylor
with custom firmware you can also add a usb audio card to have network audio. or any other usb device, really, on linux
Nolan Myers
Running LEDE thanks to these threads. Really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. It's only slightly more difficult than Tomato and I like that WiFi isn't turned on by default so I can enter my config before turning on WiFi.
Kevin Allen
depends on how many AC devices you are supported. if you frequently transfer files to or from a laptop or tablet then it's worth it. going from N900 to AC my file transfer speeds tripled.
Noah Hughes
What's an AC device, I'm a brainlet and dont know anything about networking.
Cameron Reed
Seriously kys
Colton Green
I get a D from bufferbloat. How do I fix this?
Nicholas Sullivan
>DDWRT >buggy What? I've never seen a single bug on ddwrt. Ok, maybe once when I installed newest unstable beta without reading how it works first, but it was still working fine.
Nicholas Anderson
Using a AC68U. Was going to set up pfsense, but couldn't get host-guest networking to work and got lazy. Also got A+ for that bufferbloat thing above.
Bentley Kelly
Go the bufferbloat.net site.
Daniel Perez
What the fuck is bufferbloat and why do I have a C rating for it?
Ayden Williams
Anyone else here /Netgear n600/
Nolan Hernandez
idk it sounds like snake oil to me
Carter Cruz
Bufferbloat is real and most people reading this thread have a bad case of it.
Ayden Hill
My shitty Comcast router shows me an F for bufferbloat and I don't even know what it means.
Nathaniel Robinson

Adam Edwards
>Daily reminder that DDWRT is shit and you should be using LEDE or Gargoyle for stability and speed.
>not recommending pfsense
the absolute state of Sup Forums
Andrew Powell
>every buffetbloat page is just an ad so you buy an IQrouter
Blake Allen
I got a D on BufferBloat but my RT AC66U isn't supported by either LEDE or Gargoyle. Is it time to get a new router or...?
Dylan Watson
ac66u is supported by DD WRT
Nolan Mitchell
I got an A with a 3 years old router/firmware. The culprit is more likely your ISP.
Jace Bennett
Just change the settings according to your firmware's forum.
Nolan Mitchell
Where can I find these forums
Michael Hall
google your firmware's forum, dude. this isn't hard.
Samuel Flores
pfSense in a VM on my server.
Jayden Martinez
I got a D on bufferbloat.
This is the first I'm hearing of it..
Grayson Foster
What's the best 4g router?
Michael Powell
Suck it, Americunts.
Superior Asian internet and hardware.
None of you can get an A+ on bufferbloat.
Nathan Harris
I have this exact model, what fukkery could one use it for?
Matthew Baker
if you don't already know, don't bother.
Aaron Powell
So, what're the basics for router security and custom firmware? What are the security advantages and how far can i go? Is it worthwhile to stack a MicroFirewall from pfSense on top of my router?
Bentley Perry
SNB got a pretty active asus router forum. Funny how my AC68U got A+
Ayden Ramirez
Great advice, you should be a guidance counselor
Jeremiah Wood
>what fukkery could one use it for Browse for pornographic websites through it.
Ayden Gomez
So my TP-Link TL-MR3420 is about to completely fail and I want to get a router with the 5 MHz meme. What's a good AC-router for general use? Currently considering getting AC66U/AC68U, but it might be a bit overkill for my 100/100 speed.
I have it and my internet is 25/25 You could just get the archer C7
Carson Davis
>5GHz Fixed
Sebastian Turner
Who here has MEMERouter?
Jeremiah Edwards
Since no one else did, let me thank you for mentioning this.
James Phillips
some people are not worth helping. they should just do something else.
Robert Sanders
1.) Same as 2.) Most recent stock firmware 3.) I'm fine with these basic ones which do everything I need them to.
Colton Roberts
We all have the Archer C7, a budget router, a pfsense box, or a mikrotik + ubiquiti
Luke Gutierrez
you are like little baby
Joshua Sullivan
I have one huge question that I’ve never been able to figure out. I have my router log turned on, and it is showing me up adresses... but if I copy and paste them into chrome - it just times out.
I really want to know what website are being visited in my computer. I have some child safe software running, but I don’t trust it completely.
I’ve tried to find this answer, but I’ve failed. The numbers in the router log just never seem to take me anywhere. How does one go from that to actual websites in the browser?
Starting to think no one knows.
Matthew Robinson
Right I'll just find out myself, may you get what you want and want what you get
Tyler Foster
yeah nice, but why not just use iperf3?
it gives you more detailed view of network problems, and also lets you test your LAN.
belive me that bufferbloat test can actually find problems with your ISP network while your LAN could be perfectly fine.
Dominic Green
You wouldn't believe how much trouble I've had with ddwrt. Holy shit. I don't even know what was going wrong. You know the it just werks meme? This is the polar opposite. It just fucks up.
Julian Sanchez
Seconding this. What is the best way to learn the basics?
Gabriel Gomez
I can't get this test to spit out a letter grade. So I ran a ping during a speed test. I get 30-40ms normally. I get 150-400ms during the test. I'm not really sure if I should care. I don't play games.
Xavier Williams
i think we are overloading the test
Samuel Moore
Dae real router lel
Kayden Sanders
I have a WR1043ND with Gargoyle that I use as an AP and switch. For a cheap second hand thing, it's pretty good. Gargoyle, for whatever reason, plays nicer than LEDE with the device, too. But I can't set a couple of setting that my ISP needs, e.g. the VLAN tag needs to be 10 and the PCP marking needs to be 0. It sucks because I'd really like to make it my router rather than use it as an AP.
Jonathan Miller
Are you running Merlin? It's a good upgrade over stock.
Nolan Mitchell
Why not buy your own modem and get a new router? It's worth it given the expensive shit Comcast gives you these days.
Michael Cooper
Try Merlin
Justin Scott

I use a Netgear WNR2000v5.
I unlocked WiFi channel 13. I live in the US. They call me hackerman.
>Mfw none of my Wi-Fi devices willingly change regions (need to root my Pixel and laptop advanced driver options doesn't have the settings or in the registry)

superior setup here
James Anderson
Dude, I just set my txqueuelen to 800 on my laptop and shit is performing WAY better. Thank you for bringing this up.
Eli Martin
My router is an old i3 running pfSense.
I'm moving out soon, and in the process of setting up the cheapest Asus chink shit routers I could find for my parents, because they balked at spending hundreds on a modem+router+AP, and because then I'll be able to wash my hands of responsibility for their security.
Brandon King
Absolute brainlet here. What's the point of getting a better router if you're using the one given to you by an ISP? I just have a router/modem combo from ATT that was given to me a couple years ago. My downs and ups are trash and I haven't considered getting a new router or modem because I have no idea if that will improve anything.
Tyler Miller
security reasons, shaping other peoples connections, aka iphone users and shaping their speeds to 1/5th of the nets capability
Jayden Cox
security, performance, customization. you could easily make the rental fees back in a year.
Jordan Jones
I only have a D-LINK DAP-1520 extender since I live in a basement apartment and using the landlord's wifi. As far as I know, it's up to date, 1.06 2015/1/22.
If I move into a proper apartment building, I'll probably end up with Bell Aliant Fibe, which means I'll probably also end up with a Home Hub 3000. If Eastlink, probably an Arris box (coax). From there, I probably would be able to set up a new router to use for wifi instead of the provider's gear. I haven't bought a new router since maybe 2010, so I'm pretty much out of the loop in regards to what's a decent unit/price, especially in Canada.
Jaxson Morgan
what's something i can buy on aliexpress that won't spy on me

would stopping the broadcast of your wireless after you've connected all your devices to the wireless work in any way tobe more secure?
