The Gothic series were popular here in the states, we play this along with it's sister series Risen. It's also highly regarded in Sup Forums. Gothic 2 is a great RPG and probably one of the few games I've replayed many times and came back too.
The fact that the immediate next released version of the first game was the NA version shows that we here too were interested in playing it.
Yeah, the voice acting can be questionable at times, but it actually gave the game charm and became known for the VA because of how silly and unemotional some of the dialogue sounded.
Look at Deus Ex 1, the voice acting is fucking atrocious, embarrassingly so on the original English VA, but it's still regarded as a one of the "games you have to play" if you want to be taken seriously as a gamer.
