tl;dr Google neutered the "view image" and "search by image" buttons but you can still reverse image search.... Which they'll probably neuter, too, later...

Watchmaker here, this seriously hurts my workflow. If I have to assemble an ancient watch movement that has no technical drawing I look up pictures of it, throw the images into different tabs and work with those. Removing this seriously fucks me over, and I bet everyone else who need reference images for something work related FAST.
