this meme needs to stop. gimp doesn't even have the half of photoshop's features. not only that it's also very uncomfortable to use what it does offer like drawing a circle or typesetting or just about anything

It's handy for exporting things into a variety of file formats and splitting GIFs.

If you want to do just that, i think imagemagick would be quicker and more efficient.

I've used it for saving difference file and cropping - not much else. It might be enough for most of my needs.

saving to different file formats*

So, how much money have you donated to GIMP? I'm sure they could have nice things too if they were bringing in Adobe money.

As it is, it's more than good enough for 99% of your photo editing purposes which is its primary reason for existing.

GNU image manipulation program (aka Gimp) is awesome for picture manipulation. But if you into painting and etc, you should use Krita or somethine else.

Unix way is when you have a different program for every need, not one big.

Literally this, the only times I ever use GIMP is either to manage formats or to compress PNG files that I create with another graphic program and sometimes I use it make GIFs since it's faster than ffmpeg, but that's pretty much everything.
The interface is a pain in the ass to use and you need a gazillion plugins to make it useful.

Your libre office bait thread not gaining enough momentum?

but what if you want to
draw on a picture
btw krita sucks even more

good enough for making memes and editing photos of my friends into embarrassing positions.

GIMP is better then MS pain.
Its fun to have a free(like in beer) program.
Some Normie find it ultra cull because they can use a magic wand (not in MS-Paint) for the first time in their lives.
Layers, cropping and color correction are nice.

Today gimp is far less retarded then it used to be; thanks to the ability to have it in one window mode.

Personally I use it for shit posting and photo cropping.

Out of curiosity what has photoshop that is so ultra cool?
I never used photoshop only MS-Paint.

> krita sucks
This is true.
I used to have fun in GIMP drawing pictures for shitposting and fun and tried krita.
Krita is cancer, I'm back to GIMP.

this. modern gimp with 1 window mode is awesome nowdays.

the ui is great nowdays.

...

I don't think anyone has ever tried to say Gimp is superior.

What people do tend to say though is that it's pretty amazing for a piece of software that is free, and that's accurate

In my opinion multi window mode is actually better than having everything docked to a single one.

>layer styles
>smart objects
>non destructive editing
>adjustment layers
>more typesetting options
>a real shape tool (no, just making a selection isn't the same)
>different color spaces to rgb 8
No it isn't. Tools make no sense, menus are also weird, ugly filter options, layer managing is painful, etc

I don't really do photo manipulation or digital painting so can somebody please explain to me, what features are missing from GIMP/Krita that make Photoshop so much better?

>In my opinion multi window mode is actually better
Unless it takes 3 minutes to fuck around with the windows to position them.
The joys of clicking something in the background because there is a 1px space between the windows.

I like options if you have 2 monitors maybe this makes more sense.
Elaborate form me why this is better.

The rest are good examples.
>a real shape tool (no, just making a selection isn't the same)
Oh fuck I forgot about this even MS-Paint has this.
And its needed.
I also say give us real vectors.
More options more fun.

>smart objects
>non destructive editing
I know what smart objects are is non destructive editing the same thing essentially?
Also its needed.
Personally I don't use them and would not benefit from them.
Simply because all my base extra materials are separate files and I simply drag the base file to use it one more time.

>layer styles
>adjustment layers

You have to explain this to me because I don't even know what this is.

>different color spaces to rgb 8
OK.
Only personally I never use it.
Who is autistic about printing in this day and age?

Is me growing up on GIMP like the Unix old meme?

“I liken starting one’s computing career with Unix, say as an under-
graduate, to being born in East Africa. It is intolerably hot, your
body is covered with lice and flies, you are malnourished and you
suffer from numerous curable diseases. But, as far as young East
Africans can tell, this is simply the natural condition and they live
within it. By the time they find out differently, it is too late. They
already think that the writing of shell scripts is a natural act.”

Works on my machine.

>In my opinion multi window mode is actually better than having everything docked to a single one.
I agree with that, multi window Gimp is goat
>move the toolboxes anywhere you want
>tear of menus for easy access
>press tab to hide the toolboxes and tab to show them again
MDI interfaces (including tab based interfaces) are shit

What kind of algorithm do you think they use?
Does it find the banknote if it flipped or rotated?
If it's inverted?
