One: it's a status symbol; people are greatly appreciative when an accessory offers the appearance of affluence.
Two: this would be detrimental. Most of Android's (read: Google) competition is seminal at best, to offer them free reign would be a mistake. Duopolies are bad enough, instead of limiting Apple's market share it'd be best to focus on increasing the market share of something like Sailfish or similar systems.
