Are any of you using mastodon? Why isn't there a Sup Forums instance yet? Thoughts about this?

>Are any of you using mastodon?
yes

>Why isn't there a Sup Forums instance yet?
I dunno
Maybe lack of Sup Forums-tards on mastodon
That's a good thing though
>Thoughts about this?
Pretty gud
FOSS, decentralized and under active development
I still don't get the appeal of microblogging but it's definetly a good alternative to twitter

I like the idea of an alternative to twitter but I don't get why you would have to have a "home" instance of mastodon. Like when you signup, you have to sign yourself up to one of the channels but you can then branch out from that, so why sign up to one automatically.

Or have I misunderstood the whole thing?

Idk I like it, there's the people you follow (like on Twitter) and then you can see a timeline of people on the same instance as you (which will mostly be interest based so that's cool, bc you get to see stuff you like)
It's a cool feature because you get to settle into a little corner of the web, while still interacting with a larger whole

I get that, it just makes it difficult to choose which instance I should register for.

I'm already using diaspora*.

Just pick one and migrate later?

Mastodon is a platform, not a community

But certain platforms tend to attract certain types of communities.

tweet on twitter = toot on mastodon
Home feed: toots and retoots from users you follow and your own toots
Local feed: all toots from users in your instance
Federated/Global feed: public toots from users that users of your instance follow
Example: a and b are in instance Sup Forums and c in instance /r9k/
a follows c. c's toots show up in b's federated feed

Furries and LGBTQ+ people inhabit pretty much every niche social platform in existence, unless it's one they're actively being chased away from. Plenty of right-wing Mastodon instances which don't go along well with either exist.

I feel it's less populated than Gab.ai

I'm on pawoo, it's really good.
There is no Sup Forums instance but I think there's a Sup Forums GNU/Social instance which is pretty much the same thing.

>right-wing Mastodon instances
I thought right-wing instances were mostly GNU Social. No?

I'm checking the global... and ho my, so many japs ! (I'm on mastodon.social)

I'm pretty sure that poster meant mastodon.social.

Isn't toot a euphimism for fart?

They talk to each other anyway, so who cares?

Mastodon is for SJWs and trannies. Use a GNUsocial instance instead to talk to cool dudes.

This. GNUsocial, postActiv, and pleroma are the only acceptable options for federation.

Any self respecting user should be on unsafe.space or gs.smuglo.li and accept no substitutes.
