AFTER i got the second card
well now i have a baller physx card

Maybe it's time to upgrade?

pajeets

>trying to SLI two 4600s in the first place

it still does all i want it to do desu
i was just hoping a second card would get a little bit more out of it
the quadros are like 10$ on ebay anyway, whole system is cheaper than buying an RX 560 right now

And actually, adding on to this, anyone looking for a G80 based gaming machine, 4600's go for slightly cheaper than 8800 GTX's and perform very similarly
The 5600's are better than 8800 ultras but are around 40$ each so maybe not worth it, but that 1.5gb of vram...

What is this temperature, it use to be 70 at max.

You can't SLI quadros fuck head, they're not gaming cards to begin with.

bait

It's not bait, it's fact unless you're purchasing from a vendor.

You need specifically qualified and tested systems to get SLI working with quadro cards, meaning it only works if you're buying it pre-built from Dell, Fujistu, HP, Lenovo, etc.

you can SLI quadros
just with something this old its a matter of if the motherboard supports it

nvidia.com/object/quadro_sli_rendering.html

older FX cards can do sli frame rendering as well but only in certain modes

otherwise you get sli multiview which is useful but really not what i was going after
nvidia.com/object/quadro_sli_multiview.html

either way neither is supported because the precision t3400 isnt as cool and fully featured as the 3500
so i spent 5 bucks on an sli bridge for nothing but now i have plans for a quad 1600x1200 monitor square...

Someone's mining buttcoins on your memepad, boi.

>all these CPU temps over 30C

Why do you guys have such shitty cooling?

because idle temps are meaningless, just depends on your fan curve and your ambient air temp.

i sit at 45-47 and i max at 50-52
better than sitting at 23 and maxing at 50

temperature changes kill components, not high heat itself

>because idle temps are meaningless
No it's not.
If It's fucking hot when it's idle, then what the hell do you think is going to happen when it actually starts working?

>just depends on your fan curve
default fan curve is fine in 99% cases. Only reason to change it is if you're OC'ing.

>your ambient air temp
That never really made much of a difference on my temps. In the winter I can reach maybe 18~22C as an average. During the summer it's the same thanks to A/C.(I live in the south where it's 100F in the summer)

>default fan curve is fine in 99% cases
You obviously don't know anything.

Many new GPUs come with fan curves that specifically don't run at ALL until they hit 50-60C. Meaning at idle, they're silent.

>That never really made much of a difference on my temps. In the winter I can reach maybe 18~22C as an average. During the summer it's the same thanks to A/C.(I live in the south where it's 100F in the summer)
It literally is the biggest factor of all, fucking idiot. Learn to thermodynamics.

My riced out Dell E6440

>Many new GPUs come with fan curves that specifically don't run at ALL
That's the default curve.

>t literally is the biggest factor of all
I specifically said it doesn't make a difference in MY setup, because the ambient temperatures are mostly the same during the year, hence the temperatures being the same.

>That never really made much of a difference on my temps
>my temps
My temps never go over 35C, regardless of the load.
Learn to fucking read dumbass, christ.

No one gives a fuck about YOUR setup when your question is
>Why do you guys have such shitty cooling?

Just kill yourself.

Also, how the fuck can you say the default fan curve is fine 99% of the time if the default fan curve is why they're idling at 40-50c?
That's the fucking default, what the fuck is your argument?

>No one gives a fuck about YOUR setup
Then shut the fuck up responding to me. This is a thread about posting OUR setups.
You clearly don't have anything of value to add since you're a retarded parrot so I don't care to read anything else you have to say.

Now fuck off with your 50C+ temps child.

>makes a retarded question and shows how retarded he really is
>gets upset when someone points out he's being retarded

Kek

because it doesnt matter, op here
as long as the temperature doesnt fluxuate like crazy, it can idle wherever
idle at 50 is fine if youre still not hitting max temps with the thing, some old processors just do that as well, shitty tim between the ihs and die or just being from an era where it was acceptable

in my case its a 95w processor on a cooler designed for the 65w core2duos, my T3400 seems to have been a really basic bitch model as it doesnt have the copper core cooler the c2q and c2e models had
it doesnt get that hot, i dont care that it idles in the 40's beacuse it never gets above 60, it stays quiet with a low RPM 120mm fan and its shoved in a box with two 130w housefires dumping heat into it, so im pleased with the temps

Yeah, that's why your CPU will throttle itself if the temp gets too high, right? Or when it will just outright shut off if it hits a critical temp, right? Your reasoning is shit.
Pic related. At 99% load it sits at 45C, how does yours do?

My entire argument is idle temp doesnt matter, so yea?

ight
burned it in with cpu-z stress test for a bit, got to about 62-63c, so definitely a bit hotter with the second quadro in there now, i should probably add an extra fan for exhaust purposes

however, it didnt thermal throttle at all, kept the same 807-810 score in CPU-z, stayed at 2.4ghz the entire time
and this is an absolute 100% usage scenario, which it rarely ever does considering all i do is shitpost, watch youtube and play csgo

protip, if you dont know what youre talking about, dont talk about it

i think i replied to the wrong person, sorry

...

>go to install exhaust fan
>proprietary fan headers
DELLLLLLLL REEEEEEEEEEE
gonna go find a Molex fan instead of this nice bequiet one

Man I don't know if you noticed or not but I didn't say that your CPU would thermal throttle. If you didn't cool it properly it sure as hell would. You made a claim that high temps don't damage parts. High temp fluctuation isn't good either, you're right, I was only saying that CPUs wouldn't thermal throttle if high temps didn't kill them. They have a critical temp shutoff for a reason, and it's to save themselves.
On an unrelated note, I miss my q6600, but that fucker is dead as fuck. PCs do not fare well in floods.

What's the difference between a w36xx and an x56xx Xeon?
Also why shouldn't I get a x980?

I don't plan to OC

help

>I don't plan to OC
Get the X5690, 6 core 3.46 that runs cooler because xeon.

no problem, have fun ^^

How badly do I need to upgrade this? I'm fucking tired of my 970 meme card.
Am probably gonna buy an ayy lmaonware prebuilt today, specifically this one:
bestbuy.com/site/alienware-aurora-r7-desktop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-1tb-hard-drive-intel-optane-memory-epic-silver/6155310.p?skuId=6155310

Been debating it though because I'll need to buy an external enclosure for all my extra HDDs as it only holds one single extra drive.

Also need to see if I can replace the DVD drive with my own blu ray drive as well.

How bad is my laptop?

>prebuilt

why waste money like that?

It's much cheaper than building it yourself? $1150 for an i7-8700
GTX 1070
Decent 7200 1tb HDD with Octane.

The only letdown is the shitty 470W PSU, otherwise it's a very solid deal (also the shitty blower GPU, but that's not that bad) much cheaper than building a 1070 rig yourself. $350 off its normal MSRP.

I've done the work, I've tried building a similar pre build and every time it's several hundred dollars more expensive.

In the current market pre-built is almost always cheaper than building yourself.

Tell the crypto cucks to stop buying up all the GPUs if you want people to start building their own again.

nice dubs

mainly for work, development, usually being the host of whenever we play something, and the occasational gaming session (which is one reason I preferred the 7980XE over the 1950X)

I'm just using alt+print screen and Dropbox will save the Screenshot for me. Do you guys know anything non bloat that will work well? I sort of liked Microsofts Snip application, but that thing kept hogging over 260 MB of RAM. Not that I'd need to care, I just don't think it's justified. It was also bugging out a lot.

I just want a proper tool for windows that will let me select either all screens (full screenshot), individual screens, individual windows or a specified area.

I use greenshot, it uses like 1MB of RAM.

excuse me, the fuck you're doing with all that storage man?

That's not even that much to be honest. I know someone with over 150TB on their home NAS.

Collecting porn is a serious business.

Rate my 2013-2018 rig. It's all ok?

for what purpose? I mean fuck, I have about 10TB and half that is blu ray rips of movies, the other half hundreds of tv shows, most in 1080- and I still have like 2TB of free space.

Generally it's when someone wants to store full disc images, not encodes. For archival reasons, when a new codec releases in 5-10 years, you'll want that source disk to re-encode in the latest codec with the best compression.

150TB of usable personal storage?
Bullshit.

Get a decent monitor and you're ok.

it's 20x8TB HDDs, and 8x960GB SSD. And as I said, it's just his NAS, he also has plenty of storage on his actual computer.

>8TB HDD
Ah, garbage.

Kek, for all you know they're helium drives you dumb cunt.

Yeah, I can see that, I mean most blu rays are still like 50+gb for a single movie, but most of what I download is

They're those shitty 8TB archival drives.

I thought he had enterprise SAS HDD's or something, but he's just an idiot with money. Nothing interesting.

Nope, they're He8's

Try again

>4 drives
>raid 0

youre just asking for your shit to get fucked up, at least use raid 5

>not just getting an adapter to use a normal fan with molex

w36xx have only one QPI link so can't be used in dual processor systems

>not raid 6 or 10

Hello

Some W series have their multiplier unlocked

do you like your 470?

Well, i think it's a bit overkill for my system, i've even underclocked and undervolted it, still plays Witcher 3 on max settings at 40/50 fps
I had a hd 7750 before.

So , yes , i actually do like it.

Why do you have so much ram at low frequency on a non-server setup? Are you running multiple VM hosts or something?

>finally upgraded to 64GB

is all the 64gb ram systems so that you can use Chrome?

thinking of upgrading gpu with tax refund money, but then again, all i play are vns

...

t. shit for brains

Willing to bet 90% of the people with 64GB ram are retarded gamers who don't even use 10GB of it.

You are just jelly, because you can't afford a 64GB ram kit.

changed the gpu fan old one was really noisy

64GB DDR4 2400 Mhz+ ram costs $900+. It's not a matter of affording, but more of it being a waste for my use case. Ram prices are way too high today for it to be feasible.

These people probably bought their shitty ram pre-2015.

Lynnfield senpai :3

I'm on this because I spilled half a glass of milk in my 1366 rampage 3/x5660/gtx1060 rig last weekend.
Still haven't cleaned and tested it.
This is my backup gamer/server, and it does the job pretty well.

Any overclock on your i7?

I used to have a i7 850 ES, but that thing was hotter than hell so got this xeon later instead.

I do miss my 1060 tho, so I'll have to get shit cleaned up during the weekend.
