What was your favorite internet era?

What was your favorite internet era?

strawpoll.me/15181343

I don't fucking remember but I have money these days so it's vastly more useful now

Are we talking purely consumer or also aimed at webdevs? Because webdev has luckily become a breeze in the last years. Not so much in the "classic" years.

classic era by far.

2007 is the advent of the modern day smartphone and boom of facebook which enabled all sorts of retards to pollute the internet.

>Calling one of your categories "peak years"
No clear answer for me, been using the internet since the 90s and enjoyed different things about different periods. Likewise, there have been different problems as time has gone on.

Between classic and peak.

2003-2009 or so. Somewhat matured, and pre-Obama politics.

2004-2009 maybe 2011 might be pushing it just a little bit. 2004 was nice playing RS2 beta lol.

2004ish was great for online banter, you wouldnt get banned for calling someone a nigger and teabagging them. Sigh. I miss it.

Gonna go with the "Classic" option, albeit extended up to like 2010 due to me being a kiddo back then who was blown away by street-level LANs, local chat, CS1.5, playing literally all maps in WC3, local Lineage and later WoW servers, wanting to play browser MMOs and being unable to due to the Internet costing $0.05/Mbyte, sharing pirated anime on CD-Rs, finding porn on someone's PC in our LAN, writing shit to someone's "Shared Folder", PeerWebDC++ and seeing "Terabyte" for the first time, persuading dad to switch the Interned subscription to the unlimited one, download about 2TB of anime total and drop all of it into the LAN, do it on a 256kbit/s speed while having the PC run torrents literally 24/7, having random people approach you on a street and buy you beer with words "thanks for One Piece", facing an existential crysis when the IPS made major changes to their infrastructure and for a night there was no download speed limitation, spending a whole night setting up torrent queue just to see it being completely finished by morning.

Truly magical times.

Although classic era might seem perfect. Just let me remind this:
>Flash used on most sites
>Most sites looked like garbage
>Watching video online was a pain in the ass
I enjoyed the "peak years" (kinda biast term regarding the poll) because everything started to get slowly better.

>Flash used on most sites
>Most sites looked like garbage
>Watching video online was a pain in the ass
But that's why I voted for it

Internet's just getting better. We now just need to take Sup Forumstards' phones away.

Well not only that but for the internet speeds in those years and the excessive usage of css/Javascript and flash loading speeds of sites was horrible.

"Peak years" should be "Social years" since it was the peak/downfall of MySpace and the emergence then dominance of Facebook and then other sites like Twitter, Instagram, Vine, etc.

>"""Peak""" years winning
I mean I didn't not enjoy the internet in that period, but the latter half in particular was nowhere near as good as the classic years.

>1982
>internet era
Best laugh I've had today!

Dial-up =/= internet. Fucking faggots who think modems are for connecting to the internet.
Internet only became a thing in the early 90's with HTML, specifically '93.

Peak years are late 90's to mid 2000's faggot.
After 2007 it was already all dead. Sorry you missed it.

this is very wrong OP
where the fuck did you even hear this shit? it's obvious you weren't around for most of that or you would know better

That's the worldwide web dumbfuck

World Wide Web runs on the internet, kiddo.
Before HTML, we either had centralized server you dialed up to or just another person's computer, either for BBS or program specific services, i.e. Quantum Link.

>Peak years (2007-2012)

>TCP/IP was only adopted for wide use in early 90's
>hurr it was the internet
there's no "internet" without TCP/IP and WWW

Most people on Sup Forums now have started using internet post 2010, even 2012.

2007-2012 was the fall of the internet

From the dawn of YouTube in 2005 up until 2011 right when things got bad enough for someone to coin the term "social justice warrior" and then everything has been pretty much fucked since then.

I liked the internet better without social media, but at the same time I was also underage, didn't know shit about technology and had a really shitty connection/computer, so it wasn't exactly some golden era for me.

I think we're still generally in the golden age of the internet.

I chose Peak just because the internet was a lot faster and more fleshed out. I loved the Classic period, but mostly because I spent a lot of time on BBS'. The Classic period ushered in the beginnig of flash animation and web-based games.

But 2001-2012 would be what i would describe as the Golden Years of the Internet.

I started in 2016, when I turned 18, I swear

2010 was the cut off long for me I'd change peak until then. I don't get why people say it died in 2007 u get the iPhone came out but no one had decent smartphones until around 2011-12 and everything didn't revolve around them as much.

I'm only 20, so I don't know if I get to choose an era I didn't experience (like if I wish I could experience it). I guess classic or peak are my choices anyway. After Internet got a bit faster, but before everyone browsed facebook/google all day as their only sites.

classic years, before css php and javascript became rampant. u mean they were already available but when someone needed to display simple text and image it didn't eat 500MB of ram.

it was the golden age of forums were people gathered because they were interested in a common subject, unlike social networks were everyone gathers without reasons and spend their time trolling and arguing with each other.
