So when NVidia announces the next generation of GPUs do you think the cryptominers will sell off all of there 10 series cards to buy the next gen?
>potentially get used GTX 1060/70/80 for cheap?
Graphics card prices
>potentially get abused GTX 1060/70/80 for cheap?
Fixed that for you.
Depends on their hash rate/cost
Why would they? The cards would be added, not replacing anything. Also isn't Nvidia holding off on announcing a new gen?
>He thinks there is going to be a new gen when they can charge more than $1000 a pop for 2 year old cards
Dumb goy, they will just charge $1500 for a XX80 card.
Miners will never sell gpu if it's still working. Well, I'm talking about miners with adequate electricity prices ofcorse.
Mining is much less hurts gpus than gaming. No spikes, more constant workload. The only thing is to worry about are fans.
Miners are ruining the flash industry because the more expensive GDDR5/5x are being used in the graphics cards that miners are buying. So not only is there a shortage on graphics acards, there's a shortage on mobile phones because of this and anything else using the newest memory.
>Hey look at them they are the jews they profit of the price gouging happening not me
retail jews are the ones earning that money nvidia doesn't sell their chips for more than what they were selling them at launch ie they don't earn more when the cards are more expensive
Why would I sell my existing cards? I can just buy the new ones and add them to a new rig.
Yeah, except a gaming GPU works for 2-3 hours a day, a mining one works all of its life.
I hope the new cards suck at crypto mining.

It'll only get worse. Linux toaster + console is the future.
sure. Explain us why specialized mining GPU are selling with half garantee time (6 months) compared with brand new "gamer" GPUs.
I hope they will find a way to make mining on new cards unprofitable. Everybody could sell their old cards for a huge profit to miners and buy a new card with the money.
Both AMD and Nvidia have mentioned that both their nextgen will have optimizations for crypto.

By the end of the month, it will be confirmed as to whether or not I'll be paying respects to Ngreedia

Funny how the world is being flooded with cancer everywhere.... Not even computing is safe from widespread cancer. No one cares about furthering its spread so long as they can profit from it somehow... There's no mystery as to how advanced civilizations collapse suddenly anymore... Widespread systematic and relentless misallocation of resources steered by lower human traits
That's irrelevant. At worst you might wear out the fan bearings on the cooler. Miners run their GPUs undervolted and underclocked in an open air setup. They've likely seen less "abuse" than the average used card on eBay, sold by some gaymer kiddy who had it overclocked, overvolted and running hot as hell in some shitty, poorly-ventilated case.
not really
new Nvidia GPU's will cost maybe $900 and $1300 up from their $400/$600 MSRP due to demands
either way, the GTX 1000's series produce much more cryptocurrency value than the cost of the energy they consume
so even if you have a newer 2x mining power per dollar card, the old ones would still be profitable so there's no point in selling them
To be honest, I'm part of the problem. Work at a data center where we have some miners. Got an order of 1200 Vega 56s yesterday. And 10mins ago I saw ~200 mining motherboards from asrock being delivered. Which is why I have some know of whats up in the pipeline.
(for those interested the vega cards were $610 each)
>nu-Sup Forums is more concerned with muh games than an actual newly developing technology
kys
you realize that Eth, Monero, etc are specifically designed to use the same kinds of computations games do, right? You can't make a GPU that's good at gaming but bad at mining. At bottom, they're the same.
>you will only ever get last-gen, abused cards now
hurts to live. better off hunting for a GPU when it restocks online or in retail at a semi-reasonable price. black friday has GPUs at their fair price, some even less. so glad I got a 580 then. I should have got more, I could have flipped them for 100% profit. I can go to microcenter right now and buy a 580 that is overpriced, but much less so than anywhere else you would normally find them.
>Miners will never sell gpu if it's still working
the ones that have cashed out or gone broke are. the percentage of miners that actually have a profitable operation is quite small, many more people bought GPUs, failed, and are still selling them off. and yet there are still plenty willing to buy. the fact that I can sell my used, ancient 7870s and make a profit vs what I paid is insane to me. hell I can sell my 5870 for $100 and I only paid $200, and it feels like I bought that card a decade ago.
>newly developing technology
>Newly developing P&D scheme with the allure futuristic tech will that will surely replace money.*
>new
I remember years ago when Sup Forums told me GPU mining was finished because ASICs would take over everything.
Have you seen what has happened to miner ROI this week?
Protip: It's exactly where it is now as it was when BTC hit 6k.
All because ETH is starting to hit the unminable level.
Crypto algos - especially the "ASIC resistant" ones -
tend to abuse the fuck out of gpu memory a heck of a lot more than your typical game.
Ultimately I think specialized ASICs will dominate the more popular POW cryptocurrencies which don't change their algorithm every 5 minutes. Supposedly there is an ETH ASIC. in the works. Till then, just enjoy integrated GPUs.
DONT BUY USED MINING GPU MSRP
DONT BUY USED MINING GPU MSRP
DONT BUY USED MINING GPU MSRP
LET THEM KEEP THEM OR CHEAP THEM
Godspeed to ruin ...
At least I got to observe clearly how advanced civilizations collapse and know now that it's not by mistake nor unforeseeable tragedy. It's clear and present why for some time. There's tons of warning and tons of people who speak out. No one listens because it doesn't pay to listen.. Until there is no more pay line or society to speak of... and then the cycle begins again
Our most advanced technology and its being pissed down the drain.
>newly developing technology
>new
>implying blockchain benefits anyone other than people who want to deal in illegal transactions and black market dealings
>Supposedly there is an ETH ASIC.
Not ASIC, but they do intend to kill mining. Which they have stated explicitly as being their intention.
Even if they do nothing now though, difficulty level is above what it was when it hard forked.

I'm curious as to how this is actually profitable when the fees have cratered so much. Are these dinky online calculators outdated [wrt to real-time fee value] when calculating profitability?
It's slowly becoming less and less profitable.
Right now you'd make $2.50 a day with a 1080ti.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
BUT MUH GAINS
MUH ROI
MUH SHITCOINS
fuck off back to Sup Forums faggot
It's funny because there is a board made exactly so that you would stop shilling Sup Forums.
Fuck you are a dumb cunt. Where did I shill anything? Go play your games you pathetic child
>Where did I shill anything?
When you suggested the user you responded to is a Sup Forumsirgin for pointing out your shitty scheme is worthless to anyone but criminals.
You want to play the DINDU now too?
Really should stay in /biz/.
>running GPU at 100% load 24/7 causes less wear than occasional 60-70% load a few hours a day and on the weekends
