Actually that is not a meme if you are using a condenser mic. Condenser mics will pick up lots of reflections from the walls and sound like a tin can unless you treat the walls somehow.

Isn't the point of them being foam that they absorb the sound. Material as rigid as wood just reflects the sound instead of absorbing it.
I think it'd look cool and people who don't know the science will buy it cuz it looks neat, just get some nice pics of it placed in a nice setup and people will lap it up.
Also, these tiles would be easy to make without a cnc machine. Use a table saw and variable width dado head at a 45 angle. Perpendicular cuts will make pyramids while parallel will make valleys and ridges.
