FUCKING TOUCHPADS

>staying over at older relative for an unplanned visit
>all he has is some toshiba laptop
>no mouse
>have to use the touchpad
>try to move cursor
>page wildly zooms in and out at random times
>try to move cursor
>it decides i want to scroll instead so it makes the cursor disappear and starts racing through the page
>try to switch tab
>decides i want to drag tab instead and minimizes my window and switches me to a new one
>try to solve captcha
>it opens the captcha image in a new window because finger wandered 1 mm to the right (no defined buttons, just areas of the touchpad you have to click on)
>try to right click and save image
>it insteads drags the image for a second and drops it on my current tab so it opens the image over the page i was reading
>try to type
>palm of my hand hits the touchpad and it clicks away from the typing box.

holy shit how do people stand this? why wouldn't you just get a mouse? is there some trick to gitting gud with the touchpad so i don't accidentally give it the wrong command by moving my fingers too close together or something?
fuucck, i'm such a luddite

trackball > trackpoint > ball mouse > l.a.s.e.r mouse > touchpad > touchscreen

eyrbody loof

funny you mention the touchscreen, it just hit me i feel as restricted on this thing as i do on a phone. it's like my hands are covered in tar

wash your fat greasy fingers

>ball mouse > l.a.s.e.r mouse
>Prove me wrong.
You just proved yourself underage.
Ball mice were fucking awful, and I do not miss regularly having to clean the fucking rollers.

I'm using one right now. Can confirm it is far better than any l.a.s.e.r mouse.

Use a window manager like i3 or Xmonad, plus a browser extension like vimium, and you no longer need a track pad or a mouse

Seems more like you're a big fat butterfingers to me

how does it feel to be old and out of touch with technology?

Pic or didn't happen

...

whats wrong with laser mice?

Nothing. They are adequate. They are inferior to those listed above them, however.

>using another person's computer

>what's a circumstance
This board gets more autistic every day

Windows OEM trackpads have historically always been trash. Apparently they are just now beginning to catch up with Apple, with Microsoft enforcing “precision touchpads” to make them less trash.

A great trackpad (ie on the Mac) is just as good, if not way better than a mouse.

>is there some trick to gitting gud with the touchpad so i don't accidentally give it the wrong command by moving my fingers too close together or something?
yes. Buy a macbook. Most touchpads suck, some don't

Disable clicking on touchpad you retard. After that it is perfectly usable, since 99% of the screwups come when you try to click. I have been using a laptop now for a half year and honestly, the scrolling and zooming features are fucking awesome

But I can't

>2008 macbook
>never had to use a mouse
>never even felt like I needed a mouse
>it just werks

Windows laptops just can't fucking compete for some reason. I have a professional workstation from Dell, namely the Precision 5520 which costs 2000€ (company paid for it), which I need for my job and man the fucking trackpad even on that is atrocious. I don't know why the fuck Windows laptop manufacturers can't just clone an Apple trackpad.

Extra misery if touchpad has no separate buttons but the whole surface is clicky.

My favorite touchpad, scrolling by circling is so comfy.

Touchpads didn't used to be like that. They used to be so good you could play online FPS on them and come out in the top tiers. Then apfail happened and murdered technology because fuck everything.

youre supposed to disable all the useless functions from the settings. only the two finger scroll is useful.

i thought that im the only one here that uses those.

Never been a fan, but if the desk space isn't there (train, university etc..), they do come in handy.
