Opening the video on Hooktube in a web browser works. Hooktube is also great because then you dodge the botnet.
I installed lucky patcher on my (rooted) OP5t and surprisingly there is a custom patch for YouTube red. it works flawlessly. you do need root though. I'd recommend magisk.
The official app is clean.
