None, Use Linux without gahnoo shit instead.

youre right.
>makes file called "--help"
>now you can't rm it.
>checkmate, gnutards.

I don't want candycrush to be preinstalled and I dont want my os to recommend me shit.
I dont want my os to tell me what to do
It is stupid to have 2 browsers preinstalled which I don't use and can't uninstall
I don't want microsoft spying on me
I want to customize my shit
I don't want an os that bombards me with software they made but which isn't even compatible with their own shit
I like programming and I want low level acces to my system and I want to understand my os
I want to easily and for free be able to istall and reinstall my os on multiple pc's.
I want my build in program/file search engine to actually work
I want to easily install and customize programs other people made

>more lightweight
>faster boot time
>runs on a potato
>more customizability
>free
>fun to use
>no forced updates
>more options
>privacy
>open-source (i can change stuff if i need to)

not a botnet

rm "--help"

-- Double dash is your friend here. After this there is no more argument interpretation.

If you actually read the documentation you would know that "rm -- --help" works.

Personal preference really. I like the system structure and i like tinkering with stuff. Windows sadly often git in my way when i tried to modify things. This was however not as bad with win7 or earlier than now with win10.

im not your bitch op so ill give you just one valid non-meme reason and carry on with my night.

> it's way fucking cooler

stop using bloated and slow trash like gnu and glibc
embrace busybox and musl

1. Not being tracked/sold
2. It runs faster
3. It starts up faster
4. Quicker, less hassle to install/uninstall programs
5. It gets better with every update, not worse
6. No ads in my OS
7. Responsive interface
[7½: Interface that isn't totally retarded (using win10 on gf's laptop the other day - wtf has gone on with the start menu and settings screens, holy shit it's barely useable)]
8. Lack of malware
9. It runs everything I need
10. It's free

Keep running windows if you want, peasant. You know you don't own your computer? You're just leasing an OS from a company that has no respect for you.

>i liek candy crash and vidya gaems!
Ok. I'm glad you enjoy them.

1) paid license
2) even more for dynamic VMs and multiple machines
3) updates not working for me (probably bad mirror which I can't configure)
4) no wireguard

the only time i feel like i have any sort of control over anything in my life is when im at the command line.

1. Privacy
2. It's free
3. It's gratis
4. Customization
5. Better software
6. Runs better than Windows
7. Uses less system resources
8. More support for various architecture
9. Vastly smaller install size
10. Better language

contains exactly zero arguments against Windows 8.1

1. Not being spied and tracked.
2. Runs faster.
3. Boots faster.
4. Some software is genuinely better - mpv, transmission, etc.
5. Aesthetically pleasing, due to customization.
6. Makes you learn how operating system really works.
7. Great environment for programming, fast and easy.
8. Running FOSS makes you feel good. You don't owe anything to anyone. There is no hidden shit about collecting data or something else in GNU public license.
9. Perfect support of older hardware without any possible loss in performance.
10. Stability. Memes aside.

>fun to use
this is where I stopped reading

>less hassle to install/uninstall programs
You've GOT to be fucking kidding me!

sudo pacman -Rs package

Wow so hard to do.

(You)

>I ran into LE fucking CONFLICT mutha fucka. Enjoy your current session because I just fucked GRUB btw :^)

Impossible by simply removing unnecessary packages.

Windows 10 is over 40gb and ntfs filesystem just eat your space slowly and gradually even if you don't install anything

1. it's not Windows
2. you don't go to shady websites in order to download X program because you can find it in the repos
3. lossless music (FLAC, MPD)
4. want to make a seedbox in Windows? good luck, friend
5. the battery life on Fedora is uncanny (FTR, I already listened to music for 30 minutes with 5% of battery after having stopped NetworkManager)
6. the UI doesn't look like piss
7. LUKS, BTRFS
8. one command updates all the system
9. when updating the system's core components it doesn't break your VPN, which shows Windows Update is extremely intrusive to your system
10. the terminal doesn't look like shit

...

I thought fedora was notorious for eating battery

Compared to Windows it's a fucking bird

Too real, please delet

1. I want to
2. I want to
3. I want to
4. I want to
5. I want to
6. I want to
7. I want to
8. I want to
9. I like Linux
10. I don't like Windows

1. remember? fsf.org/blogs/rms/ubuntu-spyware-what-to-do you'll get spyware thats just a matter of time before someone wants a bit of dosh
2. subjective (my windows is faster than my raspberry linux)
3. subjective (my windows starts faster than my raspberry linux)
4. you wish, don't forget to install your dependency packages..oh the repository is dead/hasn't the needed version/package anymore? well TOO BAD just compile it yourself hehe
5. remember to update to systemd hehe
6. no os has ads (exept for those half-raped editions where the device costs less)
7. wat? show me that responsivenes try to use gnome/kde/whatever with an Touchscreen and then kill yourself (btw. windows can do that without any problems, thats true responsiveness)
8. *starts private nsa exploit*
9. subjective
10. the only good thing

...

1) use Fedora
2) it's a fucking Raspberry Pi, you waste your time as you want but don't expect us to waste it together
3) stop wasting CPU cycles. really.
4) if anything I'll download the tarball and tar xvf (that's what I do when I'm unprivileged) but a repo dying *never* happens
5) oh no, my only weakness
6) well it's Windows Signature anyway but what the hell are you saying
7) you don't know what is Qt so maybe should you shut the fuck up
8) a backdoor is not a malware, but again you have no idea what you're talking about and you should definitely stop
9) of course it's subjective, whoa you opened a dictionary user!!!
10) not even an argument
you're fired

>fsf.org/blogs/rms/ubuntu-spyware-what-to-do
This only worked on unity

1. machine has 30.000 cores,
2. machine uses something other than x86,
3. you need zfs
4. machine has limited resources
5. you can customize how your desktop looks without knowledge of internal system structure and shady hacks,
6. you need nagios,
7. you need ability to repair obsure bugs on the driver layer,
8. when rebooting you don't have 30 min to update system (espiecially when you specified you do not want to update)
9. you are expecting software that worked fine 20 years ago to still work,
10. you don't enjoy cocks

But I enjoy cock and GNU+Linux.

it is called Linux, richard

>open file manager
>right click

Define 'meme reason' and justify why you think something can be classified as meme reason

Just the kernel.

1.) I was really fucking sick and tired of putting up with Microsoft's shit.

I could list a bunch of other reasons but they're really all just specific cases of that one.

there are gui package manager for total noobies too :)

Cia helped with systemd though

You can't understand your os any better with millions of lines of unaudited code

Lack of malware can't be proven with unaudited systemd and alphabet agencies contributing to linux

just because you dont understand it doesnt mean every doesnt

Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean others wont

1. Linux kernel is open-source, unlike Windows NT
2. Linux kernel is more stable, than Windows NT (compare number of kernel panics and BSODs)
3. Linux kernel is more secure
4. Linux kernel runs on majority of platforms (ARM, SPARC, PowerPC, i686, amd64...) unlike Windows NT (x86, x86-64, ARM)
5. Linux kernel is very flexible and configurable, unlike Windows NT.
6. Linux kernel is free, unlike Windows NT
7. Linux kernel is good for embedded systems,
8. Linux kernel light on resources (can use less, than 10 mb of RAM)
9. Linux kernel is the most used system in the world (phones, routers, servers...), that is why all problems are solved fast, unlike Windows NT.
10. GNU is shitty utilities, that doesn't work. The good things they are not required for Linux to work.

>2. you don't go to shady websites in order to download X program because you can find it in the repos
That's the worst

LOLnux

Geek cred.

Also, Windows has a shitty crippleware command line.

Go to freshly opened CoC club over at freebsd.org

no virus /spy ware program and it boots every time

less video games
less botnet
works better on old hardware
free AIDS license
man pages
anime
free
she's a penguin
linux!!!

all files are inodes, no problem removing them by their name or number

>assblasted gahnoo shill can't defend his eating-cheese-from-foot overlord

It's not made by Microsoft.

It's free

Here's at least 40 reasons

gnu.org/proprietary/malware-microsoft.html

1. I know Linux
2. I work with Linux
3. I don't know Windows

Why do i need more reasons?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRISM_(surveillance_program)

How does being a "total noobie" preclude someone from being able to write simple commands into a terminal emulator?

>updating in Linux doesn't eat all my CPU for hours on end without visible indication
>lower disk and RAM usage (no seriously, why the fuck is Windows so fucking fat)
>works on not-x86/x64
>ntfs a shit
>isn't spending your CPU time and bandwidth to track you
admittedly, I can't give you ten because I don't care about it being open source or whatever, but the first and last are probably the ones that on their own would make it worth switching

gnu tools are useful, turns out that """bloat""" is shit people actually want and use
using busybox is doable, but painful

I prefer it.

That's the only reason I need. Your request that I post nine other reasons is baseless, and my inability to produce any such other reasons proves nothing.

Since you read 76% of it, it's enough.

>bro
>it's...free!
>i don't even know what that means but it sounds cool and hip so okay

1.systems with serial console and no graphics
2.KVM beats the tar out of Hyper-V. It's not even close.
3.Win10 is literally a keylogger and scans the contents of your disks for thought crimes
4.the OS can be installed to proper next gen CoW filesystems like ZFS or log structured filesystems like NILFS2
5.far superior for unixy workloads like software dev, typesetting, running a bunch of background daemons, or sysadmin stuff
6.full control over the administrative functions of your OS like updates and upgrades
7.actually a useful amount of desktop software on things other than x86
8. NO ADS
9. uptime can trivially be measured in years if the system isn't attached to the public Internet
10. I never need to use some gay touchscreen optimized "app" to change settings on my desktop or servers

Decades of propaganda have led sheeple to think that terminals are either hacking or a sign the system is broken.

Ever work as a sysadmin?
Or do anything that isn't baby's first web development and actual work?

>I drove my car into a wall therefore the car is bad.

Post one reason to use commercial non-free OS like windows that is less secure and less stable than Gnu/Linux OS.

Linux

>Sudo apt install 'x'

Windows

>Download xautoinstaller.exe
>Run
>Click
>Agree to license
>Do you want to install 'yahoo toolbar'
>Next
>Do you want a desktop icon
>Do you want to add to start menu
>Next
>Hey why not install 'totallylegitcryptominer'
>Installing
>Install finished, btw we have changed you homepage to our website address and added some fucking toolbars as well as the shitton of malware

Linux is a kernel, it powers android.

>10 valid non-meme reasons
>But I decide what's valid, good luck

1>Free, as in gratis
2>Reliability as long as you don't fuck with what you don't know
3>Speed, both running and booting
4>can run on a potato
5>customisability
6>No need to get shady shit, everything legit you may need is easy to install
7>Updates are easy, and don't fuck you up like windows do
8>Free, as in you can do whatever the fuck you want with it, no one has a say on the matter
9>No ads
10>If you really want to run things that only run on Windows, Wine can help with that

Dont forget
>give random binary executable from the internet literally highest level admin powers on your system while installing

You'd understand if you were a deveoper. Doing anything shell related is hell on windows and package management and one singular scripting language for Linux/MacOs/BSD is very useful.

GNU/Linux*

1. I like using it
Don't need any other reasons

>free
>built in dev tools
>package management
>easier system for running scheduled tasks / services
>non stupid low level access to things like raw disk
>WAY better for server type workloads, only place windows has in the server world is AD
>faster gpu performance in openCL
>large choice in the desktop environment software
>better virtualization (kvm vs hypershit)
>no telemetry
>less intrusive updates / most updates dont require reboots
>can edit running files since processes run from memory vs on disk

I work at microsoft (yeah - kill me... the pays great though). Linux is way better... the devs in my office area that are actually decent mostly agree with that too.

>implying I have a GUI

Well how u can play games on Linax?
>inb4 grew up you manchild

Google play store

I have one :
I need it for my job.

Linux isn't suitable for games, but for a daily utilisation, it's the best, especially for developpers

Linux is a kernel.

1) Comfy for programming
2) Comfy for customization
3) Free
4) Being in control of your system instead of it controlling you
5) Posix shell and utilities
6) Quality open source software
7) Non- shit file system
8) More secure
9) More reliable and stable when properly configured
10) Faster perfomence

1.i can change/break things
2.security
3.i don't have to cuck my data with minecraftsoft or some three letter agency
4.>henlo dis is meykrosoft teknikal saport, yu hew wirus on yor komputer end yor ayy pee es hakd
5.fun to use since UNIX-like and stuff
6.free software (or open source depending on distro)
7.literally runs even on fridge
8.faster
9.no ads
10.no "You" or "Your PC ran"

Linux is suitable for games, it is pretty good kernel

Install almost all software you'll ever need through a package manager

Able to update your entire system with a single command (also package manager, but this is a different feature)

Able to easily swap components. Don't like systemd? Use init.

Able to customize your OS's looks.

Less bloated. Like, way way less.

Has a lot of sane needs by default, being able to swap 2 keys.

Way better menu nesting. Want to change partitions in Gnome? Open the Disks program. Want to change partitions in windows 10? Wew lad, go to control panel, administrative tools, computer administration, disk management.

No telemetry, no forced updates.

Free.

Errors are clear: this process had this error while doing this. Not "lmao something happened".

The Linux kernel is part of the Linux operating system.
