Hello I want to learn to programming

Hello I want to learn to programming.
How do?

i learned from codecademy. Books were no help. Start simple, mind what the others say. elitists may often tell you to start with C or Assembly, but it's better to know the core ideas before knowing their strange and tedious implementations.

I suggest python & lua for a first language. read the docs of chosen lang from its site, they will help you a ton. i use sublime text but you can use anything, it's helpful to have an in-IDE(or text editor) compiler/builder/etc. if you go for lua i suggest zerobranestudios, because they even allow text input in the IDE for your programs IIRC, which is pretty cool.

>elitists may often tell you to start with C or Assembly, but it's better to know the core ideas
"Elitists" (that is, actual programmers) will tell you to start with C, because that is how you will learn the core ideas.

Cats can't learn programming. SHOO! SHOO!

im using this runestone.academy/runestone/static/thinkcspy/index.html

seems pretty good for now

Use Linux as your everyday OS. It’s mostly about the concepts and ideas rather than the commands themselves, and even by looking at the man pages and shit you can learn those concepts quickly. Then you can learn any language a lot faster.

I began a few weeks ago using this, can recommend.

OP, Just remember to actually do some exercises and not just read. Learning programming is like learning math: Read it, understand it, use it and so on.

cute kitty

install gentoo

man gcc

Many told me to start with python, what now? v.v

Read the book.

What if I told you that the core ideas were not low level implementation details and that those can freely come later.

What matters most is how you model a solution.

Any tips for starters?
I'm
18
and really interested in this, but I don't know what to do or where to start.
I like math, if that matters, but I'm not really good at it. Would that be a huge problem?

Looks like I'm retarded
Why would a technology board need spoilers.
Am I really such a failure?

Math would not be a problem, you're young and that's good. Choose a language (C or python) and learn and exercise daily, the best way to do this is to make a program yourself.
Make a program where you can type in how many times you came that day, and when you run the program it would display your yearly, monthly, weekly "score".

Thank you, one more question.
Do you know any good youtube channel, book or anything like that?

>tips for starters
oblig.
I've got your tip right here
But actually, if you're a non-programmer, give this one a skim (free, online, also has videos, etc):
automatetheboringstuff.com

...

if you don't know anything start from HTML
then you can learn java and C/C++
for learning html you need to go to w3schools.com and a notepad ++ or visual studio code (they will help you edit code)
then you can learn java (it's really easy)
then more advanced languages

This looks nice.
Thank you!

literally
>don't trust his lies
how can you list one of the worst possible approaches to learning shit?

Not really, just lurk more and ask on Sup Forums at /dpt/ (Daily Programming Thread), people will help you out a lot.

this and then plug a neural network and train it on the data, it will start predicting you,
> mfw i never leave

>g
>dpt
Don't forget to mention
>90% of what they say is memes, uninformed garbage and fads
Don't wanna throw him in at the deep end of that garbage without some protection

True, sorry for that. I used to get some really nice answers few months ago, but you need to be able to filter the garbage & meme answers too

this guy is retarded OP,

just start with python because it's basically like english, it's the easiest language to learn.

Google "How to Think Like A Computer Scientist" and just go through that book, it's free.

It should take you couple of weeks even if you never thought about coding first.

Don't worry about what language is best to learn first, it's irrelevant so just listen what I say and then just go and do that. There you go, I solved that beginners' dilemma everyone wastes time on...

After you get into the 'coding mindset' you can switch languages depending on what you wanna do, or what you can get a job doing.

Generally Python can be used for pretty much anything so you're safe for the first year or two.

Then just torrent books or watch youtube tutorials. Anyway pick one resource, stick with it until you finish it. Don't jump from one to the other, you'll never amount to anything that way.

On youtube watch Sentdex or for a start go through Derek Banas 'Learn To Program' series, it's around 35 videos. Don't listen to anyone else in this thread but me, they are all fucking retarded weaboos and I am a Doctor.

>used to get some really nice answers
Oh yeah, there's always a few genuinely helpful posts, a few tough love ones and so on.
But newbs would be well served to be aware of the rampant shitposting, autism and tribal faggotry that is the rest of the threads.

Buy programming socks

move to india

this.
Gatekeeper will tell you to read retarded books or start with the worse possible languages (like C and python). They're liars.
All you really need to be an expert are programming socks !

For even faster learning, you want to supplement those with a programming plug.
Finding a programming socks wearing mentor is even more effective.

don't forget engineering panties and hand warmers !

Adorable :3

Why bother with python when there's scratch?

Srsly, get over the fear of brackets & semicolons. Someday noobs who only know python or ruby may wish to use another language & then they realise they have fucked themselves

No need for l, b or t, we already are in Sup Forums.
