Apple's "innovation" is just laziness

it's a point of failure by design, rather use a dongle
can a dongle not fail or get lost? or if that 1 port fails then everything is fucked
This looks really flimsy and would probably break very quickly.
I, too, browse the front page of reddit.

Thinkpad has a better option for this. This is made to break
No they want that to happen. They did that on purpose, that's the point. They removed it with the excuse "you don't need that" or "we can't fit it" then they'll sell you a dongle for 35 dollars because they know for a fact that you do need it
They're removed it because they're trying to push for USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 becoming adopted as the only connector you'll need for everything. If there's one company that can get others to copy it and follow it's technologies, it's Apple.
Right now it's impractical and annoying, but hopefully in a few years we won't see much of USB-A, Micro USB, barrel plugs, DVI cables and so on.
ethernet dongles are literally five bucks
Fragile overengineered crap.
This
It looks awesome but mechanical functions in a computer need to go. And the rj connector can be changed instead to a flat version or USB C type connector instead. It has the bandwidth to deal with it. So why are we still designing around that ancient thing?
infrastructure that has existed since before the 80s...
good luck finding a dongle or a usbc input out in the wild.
hope u dont do contracting
go back
yes fuck folding lids on a laptop or having a keyboard with keys that move everything nneds to be a touchscreen come on its 2018
How do you use this when the laptop is sitting on a surface instead of being held up?
I guess it is about time someone made a mini lan port.
>using an ethernet port
>on a fucking laptop
>2018
Do we really need this thread 5 times every day
And why do we need monitors when VR headsets exist? Monitors have been around since what, the 60s? Why are we still using that outdated garbage?
They go as low as the rubber feet
i think you're confusing regular "dongles" with "apple dongles" aka overpriced dongs for retards.
also good luck finding a thunderbolt adapter for less than €29 for the dumb macbooks with zero IO
I'm just surprised there's no slim adaptor port for laptops
my mbp is 1nm thinner
if you prefer to spend 30 bucks vs 5 bucks on the same product, its up to you.
>thunderbolt
>literal apple standard
>complaining about price
if you need thunderbolt you probably aren't using it on a laptop.
>weird easily breakable components with lots of movable parts
No thank you.
>thunderbolt
>literal apple standard
It's an Intel standard faggot, you can find thunderbolt ports on thinkpads
>complaining about price
But the point is still valid because Intel are Jew
>thunderbolt
>literal apple standard
It's an Intel standard, Apple was just the first one to bother with it as they wanted something to replace firewire
>if you need thunderbolt you probably aren't using it on a laptop
The only reason to use thunderbolt is on a laptops since thunderbolt is pretty much PCIE over a wire and laptops have no other way to connect peripherals to the PCIe bus
its a shit standard 99% of people dont use, totally unrelatable to ethernet ports (which a lot of people don't use already). if you NEED thunderbolt then why are you buying a laptop without thunderbolt?
>be me
>newly hired IT guy
>first day
"user go patch into that rack and figure out why that machine won't show up on the KVM"
's-sure'
>pulls out $4600 ultrabook
>super lightweight
>decent battery
>only usb-c
'can I have the ethernet dongle?'
"What the fuck? Just plug your laptop into it"
'I-I need a dongle to do that'
"get the damn crash cart, I thought you said you had your own equipment"
>goes to get crashcart
>400 kilos on old casters
>screeches louder than sleeve bearing fans at 20k rpm when you move it
>30 minutes go by, boss staring at you, still haven't tied into the server

>your own equipment
>at work
ISHYGDDT
Yeah, its like bring your own kid to work day but for virgin nerds.
this
>breaks after two uses
cool
Most companies are switching to Ethernet because WP2 security is obsolete today.
