the linux experience

let us be honest, is 99% of the time for windows stuff

You mean android?

> the linux experience
I presume you never worked with Windows servers, where this exact service pack is needed for that software, so the other software on top of it can function, but only after the latest update because it wasn't compatible with all the other software stack at release. Of course, it won't tell you about that directly, it'll write where it crashes or it will try to display what it can, and then you are free to describe whatever you're looking at to Google, hoping that somebody has already encountered it before.

Troubleshooting GNU/Linux, in my experience, is pretty easy. Only the very obscure issues are difficult to remedy. I'd wager you can find varied solutions to 90 percent of issues across multiple forums and wikis. And the community is generally pretty good with instruction and documentation. Gotta hand it to the *BSD folks with the latter.
Windows troubleshooters suggest awful solutions to complex problems and you can never quite obtain a straight, easy to digest fix from them. And, most of the time, it's almost like you can catch a whiff of curry by just viewing most of their avatars.

Thats the exact reason why forums died.

>make laptop recovery media for relatives (legally)
>"keep this safe"
>few months later
>"user our PC won't boot"
>ask if they have recovery disc still
>"sorry I think it got thrown out"

I should hasten to add that it was made because their OEM discs also got thrown out and their hard drive failed.

>I've PM'd you the fix

Oh look it's this thread again

>A: Can you help me with x?
>B: Have you tried y?
>A: I have and I'm still having the problem.
>C: Hey, y worked!
>B: Marking as solved, thread closed.

>Mod: Stop necroposting

We could turn it into an annoyance thread?

>type something on laptop
>fingers knock touchpad between keystrokes
>focus moves outside of textbox
>don't notice until millions of things start opening

More like
>write a stupidly long paragraph
>be 30 minutes into writing said thing
>knock on touchpad
>accidentally press backspace while panicking
>lose all you've written

if i were to make a forum, i'd have a policy that anyone "pm'ing" a solution would get permabanned
it's like they do it only to annoy people, i just can't figure out a legitimate reason to it

I think its an ego thing, they want people to think of them as a god with knowledge and cock suck them with messages begging for the answer.

i hope they lost very important data on that day because they do deserve that shit.

Either that or being insecure about posting their solution and being laughed at by the other community members.

It's a mix of both

>see image for solution

>"halp my X works but when i do Y it crashes with this very specific error Z, what does this error mean?"

>"Update your graphics driver"
>"Reinstall X"
>"Install the latest windows updates"

>"Hey guys! I'm having X issue. I know there's a similar post, my situation is different"
>This has been asked before. [CLOSED]

or disable PM'ing, this is a support forum not a social media site. All posts are public and threads are only closed when OP got his answer

Every
Single
Fucking
Time

I just don't understand how people continually throw away things that they will probably need down the line even though they've been told not to. This was only about 6 months ago too and their house isn't exactly small and starved for space.

People like this will be the first to perish after a natural disaster (not that I would last much longer). These days its like people are too reliant on stores being stocked.

sometimes the solution is in violation of a licence agreement so its normal they dont wanna risk a ban

What do forum mods get out of the experience? My guess is most of them love the idea of suckling the admins cock, its a competition as to who can extract the most admin cum.

>What do forum mods get out of the experience?
power trip

Its funny how in public people pretend to care about licensing but behind closed doors nobody gives a shit if they can get away with it, I've seen cases of corporate users breaking the license agreement as its the most cost effective way.

>it is the most cost effective way
they'd get sued to hell and beyond if they get caught though.

prepare ur anus...

but how would they find out :^)

It's smoke and mirrors, things look flash and legit on the outside but on the inside everything is being held together with rubber bands and tape in most places.

>died

CTRL + Z retard

>backspace
pretty sure he was referring to "return to the previous page" (default on Chrome before v52)

What's the deal with thread necromancy? It just seems like the most retarded forum etiquette. If you don't want people to post in old threads, don't allow them by closing it. And what then? They'll just open a new thread, link to the old thread and continue the discussion from there. Is that better than keeping the discussion in its original thread?

I was never a forum mod, but I was a mod for a fairly sizable chatroom for some fandom. I wasn't one of those types of mods (I enforced the rules but gave warnings and reasons for bans (I kept a spreadsheet of users, their warnings, and past bans)).
But the owner was a power tripping faggot. He'd ban people who disagreed with him (I almost lost mod status when I made a joke about an anime he liked), he'd promotes girls to mod status and give them impunity, and had very strict rules that he'd ban on first offense.

The only reason I stuck around is that I had been there since before he was in power.

Hello sir
This is Pajeet Rajesh from Microsoft Support. I understand your inconvenience and will certainly help you solve your doubt. Please follow the following steps

1. Reboot your computer
2. Try running this unrelated troubleshooter
3. Consider a RAM cleaner

I've PM'd you the reason.

Yeah, it's just begging for dick-sucking

So many old forums that used Photobucket got fucked over that day. All those inactive accounts with years of posting. I'm just too lazy to log in to photobucket and change my settings, but I only hosted bad art anyway.

chans are basically normal boards with mandatory anti necro

Gosh I hate people like that, you think he was trying to get into their panties? As an involuntary incel I'm able to treat both male and females equally as I know there is no chance of ever having sex with them, allows me to call out roastie behavior and punish them without my dick taking control.

Definitely, although I'm pretty sure one of them was like 15. She was very obnoxious, and probably would have been banned for ERP amongst other offences, had she not been virtually sucking the admin's dick.

Backspace takes you to previous page if you're not typing

>That signature

god dammit i knew i should save the last line for the end, but i just HAD to read it midway through

god damn

i wrote the customer support of my phone, because after an android 8.1 update the tethering didnt work anymore (laptop could connect to the phone's wifi hotspot, but not get into the internet, a known issue with oreo 8.1).

some pajeet gave me bullshit tips like restarting the phone or putting flight mode on and off. after 5 emails back and forth it became apparent that he thought my phone cant connect to a wifi, even though i made sure in each email to clarify that i have a problem with tethering and not with wifi.

>i pm'd you the link
>forty pages of people asking for him to pm them too

>doesn't post solution for other people that have same problem in the future

Only handful of times someone left a solution.

What really was needed was a CSS that made the layout like 4chans.

Would prevent fucktards from farming posts, would prevent xboxhueg signatures, would put the focus on the content of the discussion, not who made it.

Such a forum layout could revive it, I say.
But I won't write that, fuck php.

I would unironically rape that user to death.

It's arbitrary bullshit to puff up mod penis because it's all they live for.

I used to be a mod on a forum dedicated to modding the LG Cookie (a cheap touchscreen phone from before mainstream smartphones). Banning didn't happen frequently, the admin was a pretty cool guy.

It was filled with noisy teenagers. App and game piracy was rampant. All we has to do was keeping conversations civil, keeping people from posting malicious PC/phone software and deleting posts which would attract negative attention (porn, high demand warez).

There was this one guy who would engage in heated discussions and post warez links, then throw fits when he got suspended.

It was an overall friendly community. My phone looked awesome with flash themes and shit for the time I had it. I eventually stopped using the only two phones related to the site so I lost interest. I signed up in 2010. Became a mod in like 2012. The site shutdown in 2013.

>nvm figured it out, marking as SOLVED

Hey, it's
Here

To answer your question, I did it as a public service.

What a dick

This is the reason I dropped SO. They aren't helpful. Half the time they just pull the answer from another thread or say it has already been asked. Neither answers my question, because my situation is entirely different and the solution doesn't work. They still force the post as the solution and close the damn thing.

>Guy's probably been dead since 2013
>Last post: three days ago
>"please pm the solution kthnxbai"

>write supidly long paragraph
>have clipboard manager
>periodically ctrl+A ctrl+C when typing anything long
>never run into this problem

fucking this

This. I'm using Arch Linux and sometimes there are some issues but they are usually very easy to fix compared to Windows issues and when i'm not having issues, I can do some tasks on Arch in a few seconds that takes several minutes/hours on Windows (programming related).
In the end, there is less headaches with Linux than Windows.

>oh oops my background process is fucking up while I'm trying to type, let me just go [[[C]]]ancel it
>accidentally fail to click terminal window hard enough

>please use the search function before making a thread
>please don't necropost

I was once a stupid person and edited the solution into the OP of my question threads.
Then I asked myself what the fuck I'm doing with my life and now I'm just abandoning it without saying anything at all.

pajeets aren't people

>abandoning
abandoning threads, people, ideas, software and much much more is a truly underrated action

Witnessed the other day

>PM'd you the fix :)
>OP fucks this nigger in the ass and posts the fix for everyone anyway

man mods are fucking niggers

lmao are you kidding? the solution to every windows problem is sfc /scannow or DISM.exe /fuck /gay if you go online even the Microsoft people don't know what the fuck is going on.

Meanwhile every single linux issue has been experienced by 1000 other people, is 99% of the time a configuration problem, and has an extensive wiki and documentation. One guy on every forum can tell you the fix from memory.

>the solution to every windows problem is sfc /scannow or DISM.exe /fuck /gay
Unfortunately this
so true it hurts

>Post about problem with y
>Tell i tried x like 5 times and it didnt solved problem so i need another solution.
>Mod post guide how to perform x and closes thread.

google always shows links to sites with instructions how to disable something when i try to search how to enable something.

GGX gang gang

what they want is that you to look in the old thread to find the solution, not to post in it

>visiting site for first time
>use search feature and find a somewhat relevant thread, not quite the solution I need or missing some information, but it's 5 year old thread
>better not necrobump
>make new thread, am told to use the search function
>ffs fine
>necrobump the thread asking for the extra details I need
>please don't necropost

what is catch22

Definitely the Microsoft forums, along with:
>have you tried restarting the service?
>yes, still have the problem
>a clean install of windows will fix the problem
>marked as solved

are you avatarfagging?
