It's called the Internet. It has this really good search called Google that can tell you the best program for a task and you can find and install it with just a few clicks.

I miss windows 8. To me, that was the best OS Microsoft has ever made.

Literally the worst windows second only to vista.

What's better they throw in all those Yahoo toolbars too, for free. Windows users are so lucky.

If you treat users like dumb people, only dumb people will use your system

It has several package managers, whether or not they are good is another matter.

Chocolatey is good once is scheduled in task manager and a shortcut made to the scheduled task.
Bit of messing about though

You mean windows 7 right?

Ah yes, like the great success it was on Windows Mobile.

I honestly do not need any of that shit.

this
Metro UI is perfectly designed for autists that will accept spyware and shitty botnets

I don't know about windows but lets see if your butthole can manage my package

You are a faggot.

>just a few clicks
No. Even if you know exactly what you need to download it takes a while. On linux I recently had to use some library I didn't have installed yet, I just downloaded it from my package manager in less than 15 seconds, and it worked.

But why not just update the programs you use when you need to use them?

Windows 8 apps are abandoned and they only run on fullscreen. The only cool feature they have which is that split view thingie, something I've only seen on macOS and Loonix with a tiling WM, doesn't work with legacy software and it's not even available at all in Windows 10.

Windows 8.1 though without the fisher price is pretty much the best option today if you're after a stable system that's not dated as all fuck.

outdated programs are more likely to be susceptible to known exploits.

Why would you want a package manager?

Just take a look at Ubuntu and most or Loonshit distros.

Either the software is missing or outdated. So then you have to download a new repo, update it, then you can download the latest version.

Windows/Mac:

>go to qbittorrent site
>download program
>install it

Loonix:

>install program via package manager
>have to type in a password
>install it
>open program to find that it's outdated
>have to go to QB website
>look through docs what the command for repo is
>download repo
>update repo
>now you can install the latest version of program

Lets not forget how you can't install older versions of programs as easily as windows nor can you make things like shortcuts/firewall settings/etc during a .exe install.

The main reason different distros still exist is because people have different views of when to update software.
For most projects, you use whatever is in the repo.
Then you install the few projects you need to have a special version manually.
As for shortcuts almost every application automatically makes one in/usr/share/applications
Making a link from this to your desktop or panel is trivial, but DE dependant so nobody does it by default.
The majority of users prefer to search for the application instead of clicking an icon on the desktop.
As for firewall settings, most people have an external firewall, so there wouldn't be a need to configure anything.

>Why would you want a package manager?

Updating a software without PM:
>program prompt you an annoying popup
>"OK let's upgrade"
>clicking OK open the browser to the download page
>find the download link, save the exe
>execute the exe that will upgrade the software

With a PW:
>Open CLI
>choco upgrade software -y
>done

Having a new computer and you wants to install all your favourites softwares without a PM:
>Open the shitty browser that comes with your OS
>browse 25 sites to find the installers, download them all
>open each executables one by one
>some of them may have dependency you have to install manually

With a PM
>on loonix: PM is ready
>sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y program1 program2 program3...
>On windows: open Edge and install Chocolatey
>open Powershell
>choco install -y program1 program2 program3

Also
>having a desktop shortcut to upgrade everything
Comfy

>in a few clicks

Meanwhile, with an actual package manager
>___: command not found...
>Install package '___'? [N/y]

installing libraries like Qt is extra fun, too

Microsoft always wanted third party cash, as far back as Windows 98

the idea of turning your screen into an advertising board was popularized by realplayer g2 (later versions would be even worse with the main page being the "guide" instead of a media player)
