The perfect setup

Given an unlimited budget, what peripherals would you buy and, more importantly, how would you set them in your station?

How many monitors would you buy and how would you arrange them? Sizes, resolutions and aspect ratios?
Would you buy a desk with or without a keyboard tray?
Do you believe extra keys on keyboards and mice are worth it? or are they just space consuming?

I'd get 2 or 3 27" screens, put them all in landscape mode
I'd build a custom desk where the pc is hidden inside completely out of sight, but still with good airflow
A 6 button mice and maybe a keyboard with a few programmable keys would be cool

Would you consider putting another display on top of your landscape setup? or do you think that would be overkill?

no, I can barely use 3 monitors to their full potential
I'd put a TV in front of a couch somewhere in the room though, to watch movies and stuff on a really big screen

2 37 Ultrameme monitors atop of each other for the ultimate neck-breaking experience.

But realistically, one 32 4k one would suffice.

Ideally I'd have 3 identical monitors, around 160ppi, all 16:10 (3840x2400), primary landscape one in the middle, two portrait on both sides, forming an H.

currently have a 2560x1440 primary and 1200x1920 secondary.

from what I can tell 3840x2400 isn't a thing, so realistically i'll have to settle for 16:9 (27" 2160p) as I've been doing already. i doubt that i'll actually buy 3 monitors though, i'll probably be more than happy with a higher res setup of what i have now.

stick with my current setup, 3 22" horizontal, 1 24" vertical, one 42" TV pointed at the couch. big fuckin corner desk with all my electronic needs built in. probably get a nice custom mechanical keyboard and a decent mouse.

It'd be the damn same except probably all the monitors would be either 1080@144 or 4k and I'd definitely go full retard with lighting for no good reason other than battlestation threads

>3 22" horizontal, 1 24" vertical
How are they arranged?
vertical on the left |--- , or maybe vertical in the middle with an horizontal one and one horizontal in each side --|- ?

>unlimited budget

You think I'm worried about a fucking battlestation? pfft. I'm worried about which island has the calmest shores.

|-=-

I had to think about how to do the middle two, what is wrong with my brain

Buy a Thinkpad and donate the rest to the FSF.

fuck and I totally forgot to even include my second TV when I listed that shit I think I'm having a stroke

Tv over head and mounted at a downward angle. Optionally a projector from the back of the room projecting a huge image instead if I have the space
One high refresh rate, probably ultrawide (possibly curved) in front of a racing wheel, sitting to my left Slightly tilted towards me when not in use with the wheel.
And to my right, a Sony trinitron CRT. Also facing me.
Lastly my center screen is probably also high refresh rate and definitely high resolution.

As for peripherals, I already said racing wheel next to me, infinite budge, so something nice like a direct drive wheel or a thrustmaster with nice accessories. Ibm rt3200 as my main keyboard and some good quality mouse. Given the infinite budget, I'd have both a steam controller and a Xbox or equally good twin analog controller. Possibly wall mount a thinkpad dock for obvious reasons, though the screen would be ran of a separate rig.
I'm not using integrated graphics to run 4 monitors.

Finally for the desk, something big enough to hold all this shit. Also no hide away shit because I want dedicated space for my keyboard, racing wheel and some extra space.

I'd buy two curved 21:9 monitors and simply have them next to each other. The desk would be without a keyboard tray since I hate using these.

all horizontal.

pretty comfy, although i have set everything to black backgrounds and
use the redshift feature at night, its way to distracting otherwise

i use that with linux and 6 workspaces to save and resotre everything to its place.

although for developing software i mostly can live with my laptop and
i really feel the distraction in comparison that this setup represents sometimes

in truth: i like workspaces more than multiple monitors. workspaces work wonders.
the ability to have multiple reasearch sessions open, without mixing the windows, is worth much more to me.

windows 10 also finally can do this now days, and i sadly have to use that sometimes at work, for our windows builds.

C'mon Richard, you're not even trying.

I honestly have no idea what I could possibly change about my setup. I'd buy a good movie projector I guess, but I could already afford such a thing but just don't care about it too much. If it counts I'd go apeshit on audiophile snakeoil and buy the most expensive e-drumset on the market.

does a beastly nas setup with 2 peta bytes of storage count as a peripheral

>unlimited budget
I'd buy 2 ultrawides and spend the rest of my budget funding developers to optimize their shit for 21:9 aspect ratio

I'll take two ultra wide 4k monitor stacked on top of each other.

>Ultravide 38 inch 3840x1600 75Hz freesync with 2 RX Vega
>3x65 inch tv for eyefinity gaming: races, space sims, etc.

3 monitors in portrait mode for anyone who isn't a child who plays video games

portrait mode is for millenial children who grew up in the smartphone era

I use one landscape 32" 1440p monitor. I want to find a couple high resolution 4:3 monitors to put in portrait mode on either side.

>displays
~22" 5:4 display and two matching 5:4 portrait displays to the sides, perhaps a 16:10 above the first one but that might be overkill. Or one big ultrawide instead, not sure because I haven't had the chance to try it.
>desk
I would like to try a fixed tray: kinda like having two desks stacked on each other with about 10cm between (I hope that's enough for hands and keyboard, if not then the idea is done since any more would make the higher level too high). Corner desk but with 120 degrees inner angle (if my room was hexagonal then the outer angle could be 120 as well). Main rig would be along the longer line of the desk and the shorter one would be reserved for laptop which would have a dedicated display there.
>keyboard and mice
Special snowflake handmade ergonomic split mechanical keyboard with 4 rows and 6 columns for each hand and 5 keys in circular layout for the thumb. Also builtin trackball if it could be accessible with thumb (could have an analog stick symmetrically for the other hand) or a clitmouse where possible. For mouse something like Contour Mouse but the scroll on the side could be replaced with a trackball for ultimate scrolling. Would like to experiment with 2 buttons per finger (one pressed normally and one sticking out, pressed with second knuckle).
>Do you believe extra keys on keyboards and mice are worth it?
No, I believe the keys should be just put where it's easy to press them.
