Why does Sup Forums pimp so hard for i3?

Why does Sup Forums pimp so hard for i3?

What is it good for?

Why would anyone go through the effort to install/learn/use it?

>What is it good for?
Multitasking, especially programming.
>Why would anyone go through the effort to install/learn/use it?
It's not much effort at all.

Beats me. One of the shittiest tiling WMs around.

i5 is too expensive for some people

i3, i3, i3 !!

Started using loonix a few months ago. I actually learned more about my system by using and configuring i3. It's fun, I guess I'm a nerd.

Mom, that smart bitch Cindy changed the UI to i3 . . . cunt!

I need a full DE. Make the little bitch change it back to KDE!

i3's doing a better job at supporting my typical workflows than anything else I've used so far, and its extremely low barrier of entry compared to other tiling wms also helped making it popular.

You can do a lot of things using only your keyboard, which makes it faster to open up programs.
When a program creates a new window it doesn't block your whole screen.
All in all, it increases productivity once you memorize some of the combinations you need the most and configure it a little bit.

Dear, dear little Bobby . . .
I see how "excited" you become as you watch me manipulate i3 with my soft, smooth girlish fingers.

What are we going to do about this?

Because lots of people here like it and use it. It's not hard to figure that out.

Me, I really like i3. Awesome was, well awesome, but the configuration for it was insane, and configuring i3 is easy.

All my systems now are i3, but hey, use whatever works for you.

If I use Gnome, can I install i3, then switch back and forth between, them, or will that fuck up my system?

Yes, you can choose between them in the login screen. This is a good start:

Kek.

> Why would anyone go through the effort to install/learn/use it?

The same reason anyone learns how to use any program, retard

It's gonna help them to land a good job with benefits and comfy salary?

That's not the worst reason to learn to use a program. But it's the second worst.

It should be, because you don't know it, and the idea is interesting. That's all it needs to be. That's all it EVER needs to be.

I'm not sure you belong on Sup Forums Pic related.

I started out with i3 ( I honestly don't know what possesed me to do so) and did what you are asking about. It was quick and easy and stable, literally no problems. Eventually, after learning the keyboard shortcuts in Gnome, I just went Gnome fulltime. Yeah it uses more resources, but it ends up being just as efficient fom a workflow perspective.

Should I use i3, or wait for i4?

There is i5 for you.

i3 isn't hard to use or configure. It's the fucking taskbar that is a pain in the ass to get looking nice. This time around I just gave up and used the xfce bar.

>What is it good for?
Using your computer.
>Why would anyone go through the effort to install/learn/use it?
Because everything has a fucking learning curve, why not?

whi this semen

Cinnamon, KDE, Gnome, Xfce can all tile windows.

Honestly if you find yourself wasting a shitload of screen-realestate and never using the features of your bloated DE, just try it out. It's not like you have anything to lose (except for time ofc).

Because Sup Forums likes excuses to procrastinate.

awesome wm is better

> Except for time ofc
I think this /threads it.
I3 is for people that do not care if they lose time, even if they'll tell you that the hours they spend obsessively tuning the WM are worth it when you shave off a millisecond to change windows (spoiler: they're not).
I3 is for people who post in desktop threads, not much else.

what window manager do you like, sir? if i3 doesn't appeal, try rat poison
