Which Rom are you running on which phone?
Running Carbon on my old Moto X Pure, Stock on my Moto Z and Lineage on Oneplus 2. Used to run Lineage on Z1 Compact and Nexus 5 before I sold them.
Still got my Samsung Galaxy S Plus running Ressurection Remix based on 5.1.1 which is pretty smooth for a 7 years old phone.

Lineage is the best mobile OS(ROM/Software, whatever you wanna call it) you can get on a mobile device. Of course some people may prefer some other ROMs with slightly different features. I'm extremely satisfied with 14.1 on my Redmi Note 3 Pro,before that I rocked Cyanogenmod on LG G2, and before that on my LG 4X HD.
Samsung Galaxy S3 here with Cyanogen running smooth without google account for years (bank app, whatsapp etc). Brother don't like it and decided to format. Now the same cyanogen crash everytime, whatsapp stops from nothing and bank app asks for a google account.

The rest of my phones (S5 4G+, Note 4, S3 4G) are stock, especially the Note 4 since some retarded shop unlocked it with another Note 4 IMEI that got blacklisted, and it's my job now to restore the old IMEI on the back of the phone. (with no results so far, and I should mention not even Qualcomm's apps worked in restoring it.)
Is it worth buying an S6 Edge and flash LineageOS 14.1 on it for 150 euros worth it?

Using Oreo OxygenOS with Magisk on my Oneplus 5T. Tried some custom ROMs but all of them had issues with bad LTE signal for some reason. Only reason I would really switch is to get rid of system Google bloat (which I can already do now using root but too lazy)
basically the same as expect on a moto g4, and using the base lineage package with micro g installed later through micro g + xposed for some other cool shit

Thinking of open gapps pico for Play store access but if I can I'd rather not use any google shit at all. How easy is it to pirate, or spoof your region? All I want is Japanese apps.

Can't cast with Chromecast if you use that at all. Haven't bought a Miracast stick to see if that'd work, but I'm not hopeful.
Uber/Lyft is also spotty and barely works if you rely on those apps at all. May just be me though, whatever.

Maps don't even need play services to work. It's merely for botnet features.
Better performance, faster updates, fresher Android versions, more useful settings, more drivers(my stock ROM wasn't able to read NTFS thumb drives for example), less problems with root and sd cards, better standby battery life, but SOT is mostly the same(you can improve it by kernel tweaking though). If you aren't using a custom ROM it's still worth it to install twrp - absolute life saver.

Full backup your ROM, fresh install LOS, extract the email app, restore your previous ROM and install the app as a regular app.

What do you need of Google? I only needed Maps, because Osm+ doesn't work great for me (yet). But AFAIK even that isn't needed for Maps.
Use Yalp. It'll be easy to use Japanese apps. For region I think it won't be a problem (it shouldn't if it worked on your stock ROM).
For Japanese apps, sometimes you only needed to change the "region" on the settings, so even on stock it worked.
im running LineageOS 14.1 on my HTC One M8, runs so fucking fast, battery life is okay too.

Magisk is a rooting method. It also enables the use of Magisk modules in the manager app, which function a bit like Xposed modules. They bring some nice tweaks and functionality.

X pure here as well. There are unofficial Oreo builds out already but you need the nougat bootloader

Can we install these roms on unsupported phones? Are there some general custom roms? I have a phone which is extreme chink to the point of Pakistani tier which is on 5.1 I am using it but it would be nice to have some stuff on it that all the cool boys use
