Not really. It used to be way behind chrome. With the big recent updates (partly due to Rust) it's mostly caught up in terms of speed, but it still uses more memory.
It's going to be steadily rewritten in Rust though. Hopefully it'll be faster, since Rust is a much better language than the legacy 90s style C++ from the netscape days.

Don't do this. The malware checks happen locally on a downloaded database. No browsing data is sent to Google.
