My first piece of shit was an Acer aspire one netbook. A resolution of 1280*800 I believe, maybe even worse, and barely any power behind it. The hdd kept breaking after a few months. Horrible stuff, but it ran the N64 emulator and all the office stuff just fine. Plus comfy windows XP.
>tfw your first laptop was a thinkpad because the friend who reccomended it to you was a Sup Forumstard
not a laptop but first ever computer was pic-related however I got it in 1996 when I was 6 years old. Just used it for general fun shit.
>Some shit hp netbook thing from 2006
>Could not even run youtube or flash game
>Purposely broke it month later
(((Follow-Up)))
> Actually had this one with the nub but that shit is even harder to find
i played a ridiculous amount of sims 2 on this
still have it actually.
the screen is fucked with coloured lines from being dropped, but it still works
That look like a Thinkpad and I see you have some TP over there..
How's that Compaq kb compared to the TP ones?
man fuck netbooks with their 1 gig ram and atom processors. You could do simple stuff but anything beyond 4 tabs and it goes to shit. HP Mini 110
Got my hands on this baby today.
>Acer Aspire 3610

Never charge over night :O
aw fuk ye same i had a NX6110 though
this.
My first laptop was an Acer TravelMate that was so shitty, even Windows XP lagged like hell. Mostly used it for downloading shit tons of music, films and porn with eMule.
I had a Thinkpad, probably an X32 or X40 as a kid, running Windows XP. Although I think it had a trackpad so it may have been a T series.
I loved that thing! I remember playing flash games on there, schoolwork, Youtube, exploring the internet, etc. I remember the trackpad was pretty nice, and I also liked the trackpoint, although I didn't use it as much. The fingerprint sensor was broken.
I used that thing until the day it died. First the Wi-Fi was fucked on it for some reason, so I had to have it plugged in via Ethernet running underneath my door and into my dad's office where the networking shit was. Then it got royally fucked by porn viruses when I got to that age. I remember some flash game where you molest a loli being my favorite. Maybe it's still around for you anons to find ;).
Finally the HDD failed. We could have probably salvaged the thing and did repairs, but the laptop was getting old anyway, so I ended up getting a MBP after that. That actually was pretty nice as well, and I still use a MBP today (2012 Retina 15 inch)
However, I've looked at the latest macs, and they're such shit. Mine at least still has ports wtf? I think I stuck with Apple for their strongest period, but with the new ones having awful keyboards, only USB-C, being retardedly thinshit, etc, it may be time to come back to thinkpads. Or maybe Purism, as I like the work that they do and would want to support them.
I shitpost from my nx6325 from work daily.
Upgraded it to 3GB RAM, upgraded HDD to 500GB, replaced dvd drive with hard disk caddy with another 500GB hard disk.
Runs Debian and Windows 10 just fine.
inspiron 5150, my comptech instructor at the time didn't believe me that it had a 3GHz P4 since it was a portable *chortles*
Who the fuck made chortles a word? It sounds beta as fuck.
i had this exact laptop at the end of middle school. the silver cover on the lid fell off, exposing the connections for the optional bluetooth module, it looked shady and i thought it was a good idea to write 'not a bomb' on the outside of it before i went through airport security (i was like 12). the airport people didn't find it helpful in the least
my first laptop is x220 and i bought it one month ago
i found a pic of it from like 2006, i ended up covering the panel with duct tape after the airport thing
Toshiba Tecra A3, a ca. 2003 laptop my dad bought off his company for $50 in 2007. I had it from Grade 9 until I graduated high school in 2012. Mainly used it for school work, research, internet browsing and later, Chinese cartoons, all of which it was competent at, but it only had an XGA display and integrated graphics, so the only games I could play were Starcraft, Civ III and Rise of Nations. It could also handle Sim City 4 but not very well. It originally came with a 40GB, 4200 RPM hard drive, which totally sucked. I spent my first-ever part time job paycheque on a 250GB WD Scorpio Blue and an extra 512MB stick RAM to bring the total amount of memory to 1GB. I replaced it with a used Thinkpad T410 when I went off to university in 2012, and while it was already 2 years old, that thing felt like alien technology in comparison.
In retrospect it was pretty shit, but I never really thought that at the time. Most of my friends were working-class, so it was a big deal to have a computer of your own, let alone a laptop. My attitude was basically I had a friend who bought an Acer Aspire One (I think an AOD255 or something like that) as his university laptop. I remember it being pretty useless even at the time, and it didn't run comfy Windows XP either, it ran very bloated and not comfy Windows 7 basic. 1024x600 screen resolution... worse than my 2003 Toshiba. It also suffered a hard drive failure after a year, but I was able to get it for free and pass it off to my mom, who used it for about 2 years. It actually ran really damn decent with Xubuntu 12.04.
Windows XP Sony VAIO. The first one I bought with my own money was a Core Duo white MacBook.
Props to the VAIO. I had a Z1 when I was in high school, courtesy of my cousin who couldn't live without one of the new A1211 Macbook Pros because he needed to be "creative". My uncle sold us the Vaio for $500, which was a steal since it cost something like $3000 new. Holy fuck what a machine that was. I don't think I've liked any laptop I've had since as much as that one.
