Unironically Gentoo GNU/Linux, the only painless way to stay away from systemd/lennartware/Microsoft/Applel madness and keep a system with plenty of hardware and software support

Gentoo
No really, it's good.
Do you have any recommendations as to where to start with Gentoo? I've been using Debian because "muh real world applications, muh marketshare, muh ubuntu compatibility" but at this point I'd rather just go all in with loonix.
>My OS works
>This cannot be, I must switch to something more complicated!
LOL I suffer from this too
Ubuntu on one laptop and Void on X230
Not that guy but there's nothing stopping you from getting to know "linux internals" on debian
If you want gentoo I can recommend installing it on some spare hardware first
And it's not something that "just werks" 100%, you need time to configure things to your liking. Some people enjoy this aspect, most do not
Antergos + awesome-WM
If I was concerned with just using something that works, I'd be using a MacBook. But I'm not.
I like being able to configure things to my exact preference, yes. I don't mind a time investment to do so. What's the hardware compatibility like on Gentoo? Better or worse than Debian?
>What's the hardware compatibility like on Gentoo? Better or worse than Debian?
Should be the same, unless you require some very exotic drivers that only have packages for some distros. You just have to make sure to not forget to compile the kernel modules for your hardware when you make your kernel.
Some hardware also takes more time to set up than it does on debian.
install Funtoo
you don't have to compile the kernel (it can use debian's) and bootloader is easier to set up. it's just like gentoo in every other aspect
Fuck, this is true. Also manjaro user here.
Windows simpleton here. I do plan on getting into Linux soon, though. I think I'm going to start with Arch Linux, since it seems to be the most intriguing. Simple graphic interface, and lots of customization through commands and config files. Whaddya think?
kubuntu 16.04.
Occasional crashes and sometimes konsole hangs after exit with 100% cpu usage but other than that its ok, i will wait for 18.04 to move to newer kde.
Newest kde is beautiful and unironically stable and unbloated af
Subtle racism?
i see close to none difference in the looks, and had severe problems with stability on manjaro and kubuntu 17.10, so my experience differ. Also here i experience really low cpu usage when idling, unless konsole fucks up, so i can say that it works better for me.
I dont trust manjaro and any *ubuntu that's not stable, is not stable
haven't had a single issue with arch since I upgraded to qt5
good for you, i dont see a feature in kde 5.12 worth reinstalling my system, especially since the workflow is pretty much the same.
How is the bootoloader difficult to set up in gentoo?
>Arch
>Simple graphic interface
user...
Trying out Nitrux. KDE has seriously improved over the last time I used it. Sorry for jpg artifacts, but I had to make it fit the stupid 4mb file limit.
Major stability improvements, at least on my end.
if you are coming from window, go for KDE user.
KDE is comfy af.
The thing I've found with KDE is it's more of a DE kit than an out of the box configured DE. I wish more distros would package KDE with preconfigured settings and apps that are sane, rather than just throwing the whole thing at you with default settings.
if you are going with Arch, you should be willing to dive into kde's config and make it "yours"
Nitrux seems decent, like Deepin but with KDE minus chink botnet. I'm on ubuntu gnome 16.04 and it's been pretty stable and everything just werks and there's plenty of documentation when I am looking for something.
Stick around user, if it works good for you I might try Nitrux. I'm a little bit hesitant to switch to KDE coz apparently it can't do multiple displays properly. My main driver is a laptop which I have hooked up to a monitor (lid closed) .-.
Dualboot: Windows 10 + Hackintosh macOS 10.13
Albo an multiple VM's with different GNU/Linux distros on shared disk between Windows/Hackintosh.
Can't really speak to that as I'm on a single, albeit rather large, monitor. Can't be much worse than Gnome for that, though.
How is falkon compared to firefox?
Can you install addons?
the definition of it just werks
Hahaha gnome is pretty good actually, I like how it looks (unironically) and it gives me no issues with the monitor thing. KDE reminds me of windows too much, and I kinda dislike Windows.
KDE is absolute shit on Wayland with multiple monitors for me. X works flawlessly though, so if you don't mind using that, go for it. Lid closed + 1 external monitor. This is on openSUSE, no idea if it's better on other distros.
It's just the new name for qupzilla. It has about as many addons available as midori. However, it does have greasemonkey built in so userscripts work fine.
Gentoo
Mac OS X 10.9, OpenSUSE tumbleweed, Windows 10, Android.
Tired of this shit.
Is there is other great distro with JWM besides pic related?
Whys it look so ugly?
k-kevin?
it's not retarded friendly.
>retarded friendly
shoot yourself in the dick, faggot retard nigger
Since I am mostly interested in getting work done i picked Fedora Workstation edition. Because I wanted a traditional desktop experience I picked Cinnamon. It's stable, fast and functional.
hello newfriend
Might be good to dual-boot Gentoo with your Debian at first. It's nice to have a working OS you can use while you're still working on setting up Gentoo. Although if you're already used to manually setting up Linux stuff from scratch, you'll probably have most things up and running within a couple hours - maybe not riced to your heart's content, but serviceable.
Xorg
Windows 10 LTSB
For me? It's Gentoo!
?
How fucking old is that shit now ? 3, 4 or 5 years. Autist.
10 years ago I would've been impressed with that. When I see something like that now it just looks disgusting.
Haters gonna hate I guess? Suck my member.
Antix has no systemd and is based on Debian. More painless than Gantoo ganoo/linux to me.
>dock bigger than the screen
Arch + KDE
Antix is based on Arch, Devuan is the one based on Debian
Antix does work better than Devuan, since upstream isn't completely fixated on sucking corporate cock, but Devuan has plenty of Debian packages pulling in libsystemd and ships with some lennartware
No... Antix is based on Debian.
You're thinking of Artix.
Oh shit, you're right
I'll keep that in mind, thanks user.
Don't listen to get cinnamon instead
Back to your containment board
I NEED SOME OF THAT DISEASE YOU GUYS INVENTED
Mac OSX Leopard
total fag
debOS
actually sane person detected
My man!
Useless bloat.
