It is a Skylake-X chip mislabeled as "Coffee Lake S" on an unsupported board (Probably a prototype C3xx board). It is most likely "Coffee Lake S" are really just upcoming Xeon W refresh using Coffee Lake chips.

What has more cores given us? i went from a 6600k to an 8700k and the only difference in performance has come from the fact that i won the silicon lottery and my 8700k can do 5.3ghz clock for clock there hasn't be a real reason to upgrade from the 25/2600k cpus.

Intel are trying to get 8 cores in the mainstream albeit with big power hungry dies and you can bet your ass Zen2 will have more than 8 cores on the mainstream next year.

Eight cores will be the new i7 type mainstream, like HT was in 2011. Six cores will be the i5 tier, four cores i3 tier for basic tasks.
