>Jandek - The Myth of Blue Icicles

Jandek laughing over Houston!

We’re back to tuning #1 too!

Back to the acoustic guitar with this 4 track CD. It’s pretty short (37 min) so that is always neat.

Too Course sounds very close to I Threw You Away style in terms of the strumming arrangement, but this isn’t his Godin Multiac. This is just a regular acoustic guitar. The lyrics…well the protagonist seems to be this guy who acted awkwardly in front of someone he likes but then the narration loses the sense of time. He starts talking about her having him in her mind long before he had her in mind and closes off the track with what seems like him looking for her out of the window…I am lost. Maybe the last section (closed doors, looking out of the window) is just a metaphor and my interpretation is crap as usual. “I either know too much or not enough to answer that question”.

Where do I even start with Blue Icicles? The protagonist has a birthday. He “bends the world” to his birthday. Then he proceeds to show how in control of life he is while resurrecting his loved one. All this complimented by some very satisfying bends at the end of certain strums. Very disorienting track with his new era desperate delivery.

The Daze is 14 and a half minutes long. Protagonist is lost in the daze. The entire concept is him taking a ride of life and witnessing it in the form of running colors surrounding him. He barely notices how fast it all passes. At some point it almost seems like that he becomes the world he passes by. “I was that path / I was that sleep / I was that image”. All just because he got lost in the daze. I guess the track is about losing yourself in life and about how fast it flies. He is totally fine with it too. Cooing from Jandek to a slow guitar movement.

repost because I don't want hahahahahahah to miss it

Big Mess - Big Happy (2016)
>Pop punk, punk, hardcore punk
I'm really not big on punk, but I actually really liked this. Maybe it helps that I'm in a kinda angry mood.
The first track is a great opener, but I started to get really excited when the riff on the second track started playing.
The length is perfect, as the length is often a problem for me on punk-like stuff.
I can see where some of the same-y comments come from, but I think that just depends on whether you like the general sound, I thought it was very cohesive. The riffs and the drums offered enough variety, so I guess the comments come from the vocals, but I think they add a nice cohesive layer to the whole.
The main thing that doesn't sit too well with me are the lyrics, but that's more of a personal thing, so difficult to comment (they definitely aren't bad, just don't really resonate with me).

This gets a +.

Also spend the money I paid on something band-related! (or on getting taste...)

From best to worst

>Kazumoto Endo - While You Were Out
Fun abrasiveness. Most noise pieces I've heard are over-indulgent garbage, but I can genuinely say this is one of the most fun noise albums I've ever heard. Great shit.

>Nina Simone - Pastel Blues
Really passionate vocal jazz with a lot of blues background. Can't think of any of these covers where I like the original more. Even tracks like "Be My Husband" which are super minimal are just as emotional.

>Ground-Zero - Null & Void
Liked this a lot, especially the last half, but to me it's their most formulaic and predictable. Seems to me the only "full" tracks on here are the "movie" and "international" tracks.

>Amon Tobin - Supermodified
The first three tracks are amazing, but what's with that instant drop in quality? There's literally a "beatboxing" track that just sounds like farting turntablism.

>Midori - Shinsekai
Less fun, abrasive, or interesting than their other stuff, but I loved some tracks from here. after their second album there isn't much by them that surprises me I guess.

>Aoki Takamasa + Tujiko Noriko - 28
The weak glitch elements from this just make the interesting indie-esque songwriting 90% less interesting or satisfying than it could've been without it.

>Type O Negative - World Coming Down
Slightly better than October Rust, but I still can't believe this is what people love from TON after I loved SD&H.

>Type O Negative - October Rust
THIS is the TON everyone loves?? What the frick? This is like half as good as Slow Deep and Hard. Repetitive, chose humor and style over melody or my interest.

>Von Lmo - Cosmic Interception
Gay no wave

>Spiritualized - Songs in A&E
Sweet Heart Sweet Light with shit singing, no catchy melodies, and zero genuine charm.

Next post should finish this series off but who knows.

There’s No Door closes off the album with Smith being slightly more energetic than his “I’m gonna die in a minute” state. Well he talks about everything disappearing as soon as you enter the door. The door acts like a lottery here. I feel like it refers to choices in life. The presented scenario is a bad case of luck, where everything disappears and you fall down forever. The track.album is closed off by a more expressive guitar section.

I thought this one was pretty good. It doesn’t go too far away in terms of sound, but the stories are wonderful! I guess the fact that the acoustic guitar in one of the earliest Jandek tunings is also nice to hear. I liked it.

7+/10

Guys hampus is wet jet skiing. The absolute madman

Dopethrone next

*insert DJ Khaled woo*

What music helps you guys recover from being BTFO? pls respond quick

...

Dude thanks so much! Really appreciate the kind words (and euros certainly)
i guess the lyrics are a bit angsty, which i'm sure isn't for everyone.
All the money we get from the album are going in a band stash, so they probably end up being used to finance a tour or recording session or something

no problemo!
DKK is a weird af currency btw.

lotsa great stuff on here, the entire second row is amazing

I just put on something sad like Vashti Bunyan's Heartleap

what's so weird about it?

i'm going to grand canyon with my family in a month, close enough?

Why are they worth so little? I typed 10 at first and it was like '1,50 USD'.

i mean that's just how they are. they're worth more than Swedish and Norwegian kroner. Was the Dutch gulden much more worth before you got the euro?

>it's one of those "not sure if Frederikke is orgasming or puking or crying" episodes
Edgy original cover too.

Nah, but make sure to take pics. You have me on snap, right?

BTW anybody picked up or planning to pick up an album for the thrift store tourney this week?

right now you'd get 313 hungarian forints for a yuro
we win again

it was, guldens weren't that much less than a euro is now iirc

Yeah 10 euros is about 20 gulden, but this was about 74 dkk

ok this is the tentative final j card exterior
i'm thinking the interior will have all the song names, scribbles, select lyrics, bandcamp info, etc.
maybe could do a little angel cartoon, too. while I continue working, link me to a few examples of the kind of angel you described earlier

What is it? I've probably missed it.

what's your reccord player

mine is incredible, check it out:
discogs.com/Various-Radio-Myanmar-Burma/release/1338551

I won't have a chance to go to a thrift store until next thursday, so I think I'm out

Nyar and I picked our albums together on Sunday. I already listened to it though, is that okay?

LOVE IT
Are we still going to add artwork on the other folds or is this it?

You can still enter if you want I guess, just pick one up sometime this week

here's my submission and what you need to enter

I'll do it today. Feel free to yell at me if I haven't posted it in 12 hours.

? like what media player am I using? itunes

Never mind, you already answered my question. Okay, will do.

Neat, count me in. I'll pick up something tomorrow!

thank. love the layout too

>Are we still going to add artwork on the other folds or is this it?
there'll be the other things printed on the other side of the j card, so when you lift the tape out you can read the song titles

>I already listened to it though, is that okay?
No you are removed from the tournament you cheater

jk, I listened to mine too :8)

Post it?

I'll get mine tomorrow or on saturday, probably tomorrow

I'm going tomorrow or thursday.

I will as soon as my laptop starts picking up signal again. Could be a problem but we'll see.

This sounds fun but my local charity shops are worthless for music. Might listen along anyway though.

Awesome!

:8(
I think we're going to rank them 1 album at a time over a couple days, so you could still submit on thursday if you want to! We'll just put yours near the end.

>but my local charity shops are worthless for music
That's half the fun!

That's the fun of it! :)

That's a third of the fun!

looks great!

maybe try it with the liner notes facing away from the spine though, that makes it less awkward to hold when reading them

Could some of you link me some tournament templates please?

the stuff on the small fold should be the other way around

really gotta put these in the weebly

Alright I'll see what I can do, I'll try and get some shitty 80s compilation.

This was pretty meh. I liked Held a lot though, I got a wave of nostalgia when I listened to it because my Dad would play it all the time.
Is this really supposed to be the best Smog album? I expected a lot more since I love Jim O'Rourke and Gastr Del Sol.

Me again.
Looking for:
Classical music from France (things to add -or change!- ).
Nice music outside of what I usually listen.
idk
Cool Jandek pic to be honest.

great record @hahaha

it really helps forgetting the pic

thank you weed man

Does anyone who's crafty want to make a thrift tourney template?
Would need to be each album with columns for every trip's rating and an average score column
Probably 10-13 albums but would be great if it could be expanded depending on entries

I'll make one if I have to but it'll prob suck (and have lots of stock images of pigs)

I want to see you make it, if only for the pigs

>maybe try it with the liner notes facing away from the spine though, that makes it less awkward to hold when reading them
>the stuff on the small fold should be the other way around

thanks yall, I didn't really think it made a difference but I just checked out a couple of cassettes and the ones printed the way yall are suggesting are definitely preferable

Is this the only one or are there a bunch? I can upload them.

I'll find time to grab one this week

that's the only one I have, there's also an 8 boy one and fish's big mclarge huge one. he might have a 32 boy as well

no problem my dude
i had to check some of my tapes as well, but the other way around is definitely better

>4 on Death
I haven't even given Symbolic a full listen but damn

Nice chart though
I'm most likely not gonna be able to join but we'll see.
>Classical music from France
Does this count or is it too modern?

Pic related is 8 boy one, right?

i have this

RESERVED

im winning this time
musica elettronica viva - leave the city

Woah a tourney

I recommend Alvin Lucier's I am Sitting in a Room

I hope I win :^)

guys i was just posting the template calm down

>I haven't even given Symbolic a full listen but damn
It's not that bad, it has some nice guitars and riffs but it feels like general metal, absolutely nothing new and it gets boring after 10 minutes.

Count me in

Dead - Musical Abortions

Well I wouldn't know cause I haven't heard the full thing. It's just that Death used to be my favorite meal band when I was younger.

Coolio, I'll upload em

it do
merci

Welp, I never liked metal so it's probably because of that :(

Pas de problème
Fair enough.

severving

...

I also have this, but I doubt it's useful for anyone

I know, I wanted to see if others would try to reserve, too
we /mischief/ now

His albums under bill Callahan are much better imo

Cool

How many time has passed since the last /daily/ tournament? :(

>tfw said I was going to finish tourney 2nd round before June and not done but it's late and I don't feel like listening to music
I am not good at this tourney stuff. Should I start a non-musical tourney now similar to the album cover ones people have been doing?

no
they're my least favourite new meme.
It's just trying to disguise your shitposting.

Hmm. Reasonable.

What's your favorite new meme?

Dead - Musical Abortions

uhhhhhhh...........

hey we have the same name, what a coincidence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice try
Okay thanks

well now my new favourite meme is rudi-posting

Good meme.

Hey thanks! Can you give me the code maybe? I'd like to use this

A bit obvious tho

Why should I give you MY trip?

If this is actually the real Rudi, I will send it via RYM. If this is a memer, I will post it here.
Maybe.

Of course I'm a memer

No it was actually the real Rudi! :)

This is the first Haino project I'm really enjoying so far.

(Not the real Rudi!!!!)

We're all memers in this world.
Sent it.
