What's your pick?
AOTY 1967
>"We need an album to compete with Sgt Peppers'"
>"Say no more!"
the only correct answers:
MMT
AYE?
>My Meaty Turd
>Are You Entertained?
>Good
nigga pls
Forever Changes
Sgt. Peppers
Magical Mystery Tour
Safe As Milk
Velvet Underground & Nico
Are You Experienced
The Doors s/t
Disaeli Gears
This is mine.
p a t r i c i a n
I never got how that could be pleasing for the ears. While it's an intellectualy interesting album, I can't help but think it sounds like bawls.
this and pic related are mine
C'MON IT'S 2016!
Still a great album though. Also Sgt. Pepper was the Beatles jumping on a bandwagon so to say these were jumping on sgt. Pepper is laughable
>Also Sgt. Pepper was the Beatles jumping on a bandwagon so to say these were jumping on sgt. Pepper is laughable
no its not
...
...
>no jazz
wew
The Beatles and the Stones were both jumping on the same band wagon. Fuck of with your 'the beatles were the shakespeare of popular music everybody copied them' bullshit
>Dissing MMT
nigga pls
Get real, guys.
no
>Also Sgt. Pepper was the Beatles jumping on a bandwagon
Not really. It was very much in it's time.
Fuck off with your all-or-nothing thinking bullshit.
Forever Changes, no contest
this is the only right answer
Only true answer coming through
1967
Was only recorded in 67. Isn't actually released until 68...
>all this psychedellic pop shit
yikes
>psych pop isn't his favorite genre
The song that sticks with me is probably Former Reflections Enduring Doubt. Very moving melody. As an album closer haunting.
>make the scary melodies go away!!
Embarrassing
I have this saved to my collection on spotify but haven't gotten a chance to listen, thanks for reminding me will do now
/thread
Fucking great choice, second favourite Byrds album for me
Which one is number one for you? For me it goes back and forth between Mr. Tambourine Man and Fifth Dimension?
This and Sgt. Pepper are the only two viable answers. MAYBE Wild Honey.
smiley smile though
>one good song
/thread
Excellent pick
Not him but Fifth Dimension is pretty GOAT
Any other choice is strictly contrarian or trolling.
I wish PF had more time with Syd. It's amazing how much talent they had in the group that they were still that good after he Syd had those issues.
some great albums who haven't been mentioned yet
The Doors
Disraeli Gears
...
This is the only correct answer unless you are deaf or have no soul
He was on like half of Saucerful and there are some Saucerful outtakes, you could make a second Syd Barret album.
I love the part in Little Pad where they all do that breathy harmonized laughing
Even Mike Love was stoned off his ass
It's garbage, save for two songs.
I thought he only had his work on Jug band Blues. I'm pretty sure he was gone for the rest of Saucerful. Athough he might have been there, he wasn't really there. He was always off on his own
No, he played guitar on Set The Controls and Remember A Day. And of course Jugband Blues.
Then the outtakes/singles from that album are Vegetable Man, Scream Thy Last Scream, Apples and Oranges and Paint Box.
Seven songs, little over half an album.
Honestly even without Syd PF had amazing albums throughout their entire time as a band. Even A Momentary Lapse and Division Bell weren't that bad. They were just shit compared to their older stuff. If it were any other band making those albums they would be considered alright.
You're wrong
How so?
Note we are talking arrangement, production, instrumentation and presentation, not solely on a compositional level.
>Even A Momentary Lapse and Division Bell weren't that bad
Well let's not get carried away here.
>people picking anything but this
how does it feel to be wrong
It's a bit one dimensional
Comparing All Tomorrow's Parties, Heroin, and There She Goes Again would probably prove otherwise. It's an album with some variety even if heavy on a droning aesthetic.
...
fuck wrong pic lmao
...
>heavy on a droning aesthetic.
Which is a reason why it's one-deminsional
>All Tomorrow's Parties, Heroin, and There She Goes Again
They all emotional resonate in a homogeneous way. Not much variance.
It's also harmonically primitive.
what is that? Looks interesting
Summer Sessions Vol. 1-3
Album by Causa Sui
And what bandwagon was that? The most revolutionary sounding song that was released up until Sgt Pepper material (beginning with Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane), was Good Vibrations in October 1966.
I found out its great
>my opinion is
Not what we are discussing here
meant to reply to and nah man you're wrong. Its really diverse just not in the way you're thinking. Each songs lyrical themes are different from the last with maybe the exception of waiting and heroin and each song has elements no other on the album has. Maybe its just not what you're looking for?
>Each songs lyrical themes are different from the last
But they are one-dimensional in scope and emotion, as well as the responsibly to the narrator. It also lacks no story arch.
>Maybe its just not what you're looking for?
What do you mean? it's one of may favorite albums
Objectively the most important album of 1967 other than maybe Sgt. Pepper.
I'm not saying they're good. Just saying it's considered much worse because of how great their older stuff is.
Important/Influential =/= Great

"been on mu for a year and a bit"-core
not really, a good amount of these albums are well known for those who have looked into 60s music past the basics
If you can only find them past the basics, it should tell you it's not the best.
Nice try though
Half of that is not really known, no matter how good it is. Be honest.
ok chimpy
not known to the wider populace yeah, but I'd hope people who actually care about 60s music would be in a thread dedicated to 67, not just people who only talk about beatles, tvu, doors, and whatever other generic baroque psych pop gets tossed around in the mix
rec me some good 1967 albums
>thread about the greatest of a certain year
>here is some forgotten garbage
Gee thanks.
>popularity = greatness

Being pretentious as opposed to being REALLY pretentious?
some good albums on that list (tho song cycle is 68)
I think the albums I picked are a lot better than most of what you picked though. a good amount of those like cream, moody blues, the turtles, etc. are pretty boring and poppy.
>poppy
So?
>side trips instead of s/t
my man
This one is my personal favourite
...
...
The only album that mattered in 1967
