I actually think EarthBound has the best sound design in any video game ever. It's amazing what they did with the SNES sound chip.

it's a bunch of different styles, some psychedelic others more rock-oriented with some plunderphonics thrown in. it's genuinely impressive what they managed to do with the snes's soundchip.
however the best videogame soundtrack of all time still goes to mr. gimmick
