it's between FFVI and IX in my opinion. both show the composer taking bold new risks that really pay off

of course we can't really talk about video game soundtracks without mentioning the godfather of them all, ocarina of time. this game is very divisive, but I think at least the soundtrack still holds up. there's a good mixture of catchy tunes, ambient pieces and some genuinely emotional songs in there as well

on the flip side we have majora's mask, one of my personal favorites of the series. an extremely moody soundtrack with far more ambient pieces than ocarina of time. there's a slight edge to everything, as if things are slightly off

hell yea. pokemon emerald is my personal favorite in the series. gba games in particular suffered from heavy compression and I think they did a good job working around that with this ost

while donkey kong country: tropical freeze may have the honors of being the worst named video game of all time, the soundtrack itself is pretty good and an excellent throwback to the original snes games. this is because the original composer david wise, returned to this game
