What do you already like, also I'd reccomend just lurking for a while, nothing worse than a newfag who thinks they fit in because they've been here for a week

Agreed, I've been here for a week and still barely know what people generally like on here. Just listen to what you prefer for now, and if people make recommendations, try them out

Fuck that, lurking just means shutting up until you can parrot all the same memes as everyone else

youtube.com/watch?v=sjSDVxWuqzY

i've been here for a day

this week i've been listening to polvo, duster, tindersticks, slowdive, the dead c, el-p, leak bros, mütiilation

Most people like Animal collective, Modern football, Modest mouse, Radiohead, King Crimson, Weezer etc

thank you

Yeah, but then you just need to know what everyone likes, like you need to know what music to listen to

That sounds like exactly my music taste considering I'm listening to Kid A right now.

Death Grips, my friend!

Flume - Skin

Check out Hopsin - Pound Syndrome

Grimey, Neural Milf Hotel, Death Grapes, the list goes on

thank you all :)

Just gonna leave this here. Most of the people on Sup Forums are kind of "general users" and those will be the majority of people reccing you stuff itt but there are communities for other genres of music that don't fall under the alt rock/hip-hop banners that represent most of Sup Forums.
It's worth trying out a few things to see what you like and there's plenty of charts and other resources like this for everything from metal to classical music if you're interested in broadening your horizons.

>shoegaze

whats up with these names Sup Forums?

An AWESOME way to start:
1-Create an account on this site
rateyourmusic.com
2- Open this link ( rateyourmusic.com/misc/random ) multiple times until you find an release that
2.1-You didnt listened yet (this is easy)
2.2-You can find to download (problably easy too, if you have internet)
3-Listen to the stuff and rate it
4-Go to this link ( rateyourmusic.com/recs/auto/YOURUSERNAME )
5-Download and listen and then rate, the firrst album you can find.
5.1-If there is no album there or you cant find any album go back to 2
6-Go back to 2

Mu flavor of the month, pretty dope

theonlypersonontheplanet.bandcamp.com

I wasn't aware of the auto-rec feature but it's just giving me a bunch of Sup Forumscore. I mostly listen to jazz and prog-rock so I guess it's probs just giving me recs based on other rym users.

It's called shoegaze because they are always looking down at their effect pedals

Where can you find more essential mu charts and other music charts. So far I got 217 but need more.

If you have 217 charts, you probably have more than any other Sup Forumstant already and more music than you could ever hope to listen to thoroughly.

Dude there's more thoe
I need all of em mang
I'm trying to get into every genre there is bc i really enjoy music

if you don't have the chart for Daniel Lopatin I really recommend it
it's pretty great and can be found via google

k thnx pham

please stop
tell me a single genre you like the most
explore that genre to the end
move on to the next genre you like the most while paying attention to new releases in the past genre
keep going
its better to be the best at something than pretty good at everything

here I'll just post it anyway because why not
it's very good
nothing wrong with exploring many genres first fampai, he has his whole life to get in depth with shit

Well then I'd recommend that you stop using charts and look for other means of finding music. There's a few charts on the Sup Forums wiki and a blog that used to collect them but I don't think either of those are updated very regularly so unless someone posts them, there isn't really anywhere you can get them.
Websites, podcasts, blogs, etc. made by much more knowledgeable people are piss easy to find though and if you're having trouble, go into a general for a genre and ask people what resources they use for new music.

but he is obviously trolling
cmon
if not
lurk for a few months while listening to mu core and whats hot on mu
find an album you like the most out of the core and explore the genre

can you post more of your charts?

Well, what stuff do you like right now?

I came in only liking post-garage and memerap, but this board really helped me branch out.

>listening to mu core and whats hot on mu
>find an album you like the most out of the core and explore the genre
This is a pretty shit idea if you want to get a survey of music as a whole. The oldest thing on here is ITCOCK and then otherwise they all come from the 90s onward.

that's the only one I have actually, and the only reason I have it is because of how insanely in-depth it is

Not trolling I'm legit listening to all of the charts vc I don't want to be a pleb and plus my ears enjoy it
mega.nz/#F!KV0FnKxZ!pzPcLZZWvWJjFz3GzoQ3Nw
All the charts I possess are here

>GY!BE
>classical

If you need Sup Forums to tell you what to listen to next, then you've already lost.

He is just asking for tips cmon down lad

Yeah and ITCOCK isn't jazz and ITAOTS isn't a folk album. If you look closely, there's quotation marks around the word classical.

I didn't see the jazz one but folk in an indie folk sense is applied to like acoustic singer/songwriter sounding stuff so that kind of works with ITAOTS. There's nothing classical about GY!BE though. Even if it uses strings and such you might be able to use "chamber" like chamber pop does.

Why are you ok with using the term folk in a colloquial and inaccurate way but not classical?
Long form compositions separated into movements with similar instrumentation to actual classical music is about as close to classical music as "singer songwriter playing acoustic instruments" is to actual folk music.

FUCK EVERY CHART ITT

Here you go, OP, start with the last updated version of the Sup Forums essentials.

Whoa, when did this happen? I like this update.

doesn't have hipster victory at the bottom 0/10

This is a pretty good start OP.
At the top is Sup Forumscore, which should not be looked like the GOAT decided by Sup Forums, rather they are albums that are relevant to know if you are going spend time here.
The classics are just that, classics, most of them part of experimental rock canon.
Most of these albums, if not above average, are at least interesting in some way.
The genre essentials are good in showing you what the genre can offer, it doesn't bog in any specific style or subgenre.

The most important thing is that while these kind of charts and lists are good tools for finding new music, you should not rely on them. Try and find some new and exciting music on your own, and if you like it, do share.

>I wasn't aware of the auto-rec feature but it's just giving me a bunch of Sup Forumscore. I mostly listen to jazz and prog-rock so I guess it's probs just giving me recs based on other rym users.

So you already have an account with ratings?

Ok try this alternate one
1-Go here
rateyourmusic.com/find_similar_users?user=YOURACCOUNT&mode=all
2-Look at the first user
2.1-If he doenst have ratings that follow those rules, get the first user that follow those rules
2.1.1-Has 5 star ratings that you never listened yet and is able to find to download
3-Get one (or more if you want to speed up the process) of his 5 star rated thing that you never rated before, download and rate it.
4-Go back to 1

no dont

impressive collection, cheers for uploading that

AnCo - Merriweather Post Pavillion
Avalanches - SILY
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
Daft Punk - Discovery
Jai Paul - leaked album
Madvillian - Madvillainy
Radiohead - Kid A
MBV - Loveless

These are all fairly accessible albums that are discussed on Sup Forums regularly, so maybe good starting place

Thanks
Anybody welcomed to download
Helps you expand your taste

I noticed that this version of the "classics" is skewed much further away from those old classic rock warhorses, in favor of less accessible "alternative" albums that just happened to be released during the 60s, 70s and 80s. I kind of like it but it might be less friendly for people who are new to music, and also feels somewhat revisionist.

(Not true, by the way)

True, though as I said, they are more relevant to experimental rock canon. I think most of Sup Forums grew tired of them even before they started coming here, so it feels kind of counter-intuitive to recommend them.

Listen to all of these OP.

>rock/pop

>implying it's not

Where can I find the Jai Paul leaked album?

The first four Can albums

That's not true at all
