anyone else think a lot of contemporary shoegaze bands are becoming too generic? It really needs to undergo more experimentation or something
I always thought that was the general consensus. I just really want another band to replace the void Sweet Trip left.
when will shoegaze bands finally learn how to incorporate shoes into their music?
I thought the whole point was because they use their feet on the pedals
No, a lot of generic sounding bands are a necessity to keep the genre alive. It creates a uniform sound and scene in local environments that helps promote the idea of the style and lets listeners know what to expect.
Experimentation is always welcome, but underlying fundamentals are a necessity to keep the genre alive. If you don't think there is enough experimentation, then do it yourself.
bump
Well there's always going to be some kind of uniformity in the sound, even if more bands started trying to expand the music.
That's why Lift To Experience came back. To save the genre.

Are shoegazers footfags?
the genre itself is a fucking dead end, what do you expect? not saying its bad but it was doomed from the very start
This year hasn't been amazing for shoegaze so /shugazi/'s been pretty dead recently
Hope to get a spooky shugazi month this year too
just a little
Man that was a really ambitious month we tried to set up.
who is this qt?
I hope she makes terrible music
Haven't listened to them but they have a cool aesthetic
www.samirasinfinitesummer.bandcamp.com
does anyone have share of Texas Jerusalem Crossroads?
the problem is, the genre is too often associated with the generic BS that was popular in the 90's (like Lush, sorry if you like them) so it basically defaults to that sound these days. it definitely needs some experimentation. shoegazing techniques applied to genres outside of alternative pop would be nice, their is just so much potential that is wasted. I think in the future we'll see some progress though.
(me)
*there
I like feet.
But I also like most parts of the body, so not in an obsessive "I wanna lick smelly feet way"
cute feet are nice but so are cute anything else
bumping one of the more cringey posts I've made
anyhow, who likes this mbv track?
youtu.be
I wrote/am working on a doom cover of this for a solo gig I landed next friday
I like that track a lot. Definitely shows one of MBV's softer sides.
Moon Song is great. The weakest song on the Tremolo EP but still great.
Anyone have recommendations similar to pic related?
Moon Song is great- Honey Power is better
Shove a fat M80 up your ass and light it. In honor of the 4th.
There do need to be some new bands in the scene that don't fit into the heavy vibes of Whirr or the emo vibes of Pity Sex- I want a band that has like DnB breaks behind them, or at least some sort of heavy drum tracks, like Sweet Trip but either more industrial or more DnB.
I thought it was a homophobic remark about shooing gays
Listen to SPC ECO - Don't Say EP
Feels Like A Rainbow
youtube.com
When will there be another shoegaze trip-hop band like Bowery Electric?
Probably never unless trip-hop somehow undergoes a revival
See
Half their output is trip hop. Check out Dark Notes.
truuu
recommended
None of it is trip-hop, tho.
Dark Matter is.
This isn't Trip Hop?

>The Stargazer Lilies - We Are The Dreamers

anything similar to this?
Blur - Leisure
I like the track a lot because it stands out. I don't feel right comparing it to honey power.
My cover, being doom and all, won't be so soft
Can't wait to hear your track, man. I have a thing for drone/doom
no it ain't
Verve EP is better.
10/10 post fuck other threads
They are absolutely dream pop.
good finds
Well, I currently have no plans on recording, but if the show goes well next Friday I'll think about it. I'd like to, but I have no money.
Checkin those Sweet Trips.
>If you don't think there is enough experimentation, then do it yourself.
this. more people should try their hand at making the music they're into, I think if that happened we would have genres growing faster and in more directions.
I am certainly trying to figure out ways the shoegaze genre could go, and how I could do it
this shit is right. quality post.
there's this canadian band who made a really similar album but i cant remember what they were called, the album cover was all hazy and red though
So when is Alvvays gonna drop shoegaze/dream pop AOTY?
youtube.com
idk, but here's some nice canadian shoegaze
weed.bandcamp.com
when are they going to release anything?
this one?
that's the one, thank you
as if my bandcamp wishlist wasn't getting out of control enough
I've always thought Alvvays was generic indie electronica like Chvurches but this is pretty good desu
Whats some more stuff like this?
This is amazing, please someone rec an album that sounds like this. Also why arent Alvvays releasing more music like this?!
I just need some kinda feelgood dream pop (think Wild Nothing)
ehh, it's okay but I like their jangly twee sound better
I know this is gonna sound crazy but can someone recommend me more stuff like Cigarettes After Sex?And if it helps I know it's not showgaze but Lana Del Rey can sound slowcore esque at times so more like her too
...
Sound Is Lovv (terrible band name btw) and Laurels sound pretty ace, thanks
Flying Saucer Attack, Loveliescrushing, Astrobrite for the overblown guitars.
Overall sound reminds me of Beach House. Specifically Devotion and Thank Your Lucky Stars.
Luminousorange - Drop You Vivid Colors
My Dead Girlfriend & Shojoskip - Sweet Days and Her Last Kiss
Asobi Seksu - Citrus
All of them are jap bands.
Hate to be that guy but... Asobi Seksu are from the good ol' US of A.
Well the lead singer is Japanese American anyway.
Does all the little stripped down electronic tracks on here bother anyone else? They're like little interludes of musical skits that take away from the actual songs to me.
this guy has a lot of pedals
this is an interesting point
question for general anondom - would you do differently if you had the raw materials (4-piece band, 2 guitarists, bassist, drummer, synth/electronics availability, male + female joint lead singers)?
More like this
Lads, has anyone got a link to the original, mostly mono, version of loveless?
I've been searching for ages and I've had no luck. All of their other music is mostly mono and I feel like the original might give a nice insight into the original sound
Underrated song: youtube.com
What labels are out with a focus on shoegaze?
Someone posted this in the last thread youtube.com
Anyone got more like this? I like the drumwork especially which shoegaze seems to lack
album's about 50% filler
Still 8/10
does /shugazi/ have a chart to newcomers?
is that Melt-Banana?
...
thanks user :)
Yeah but I took that picture like almost a year ago.
2
was that at Maryland Deathfest by any chance? I actually was there and that stage setup looks very familiar
The mainstream ones are.
Fleeting Joys' Despondent Transponder doesn't count as shoegaze?
I think now it's more about using elements of shoegaze to craft an original sound. Nothing's new album is an interesting take on pop punk, Protomartyr for post punk, etc
Nah I saw them in Oakland.
Is there a whole album that those Orangegrass tracks are from?
youtu.be
Japgaze chart, tried keeping it to one per artist or it'd be half Kinoko Teikoku and My Dead Girlfriend
Help me out here
Orangegrass -烏鴉 (2015)
Cosmicdust - Snow Noise Assemblage
Mass of the fermenting dregs is already on the chart and Totorro are math rock.
They're also French
I do love them to death though, really excited for their new album
Lots of love to that re;mo album, saw it linked in a vocaloid thread once and really love it
If I love Nothing what other bands should I look into, old a new with more of an alt-rock edge?
