Reminds me of that /daily/ bingo, anyone have it?

(reposting for visibility) Oliver Nelson - Straight Ahead (1st impressions) In my opinion 1961 is the year Dolphy became one of the greatest musicians on the planet. His approach to jazz is so unique that there is really no substitute; and the fact that he mastered 3 separate instruments is nothing short of astonishing. That said, Dolphy is clearly the all-star on this album, and the title should be "Straight Ahead - Eric Dolphy and Oliver Nelson tear it up with a pretty good backing band". Actually, Roy Hanes' drums also deserve a nod. Still immensely enjoyable, and highly recommended to fans of Dolphy or Nelson. Nelson is the smooth ocean waves to Dolphy's volcanic magma on this record. If you've heard The Blues and the Abstract Truth, and you want a comfier, more reed-central and traditional equivalent, this is your jam. 7.5
Juan Gonzalez
>someone ironically calls their reviews "reviews" to shield themselves from criticism episode I feel like this is half directed at me, but I only did this because other people were calling them that first.
fahey next also dubs
Camden Torres
who /theroom/ here
Juan Cruz
>It's a Rod recommends Jim O'Rourke episode cool i love that one
Hudson James
Hey everyone ! I'm flying to Japan for 2 months tomorrow. Wish me luck !
Angel Diaz
we could all use a little bit more of obnoxious in our lives is all im sayin
>it's a fish checks 'em episode
Brandon Brooks
I am actually doing Fahey next but I want you to know your comment had no bearing on it. Don't let it get to your gills, fishboy.
>It's a Jangle screencaps his own plug comments episode >It's a Jangle posts about himself to make himself feel more important
Jacob Long
Hey, I did two reviews last thread and one more will come tomorrow so I should be at 4. Don't kick me plz :^(
ps anybody watching the football match? who are you with?
Isaiah Nelson
nice dubs/girl
yeah right piggo
this actually looks like a lot of fun. Would consider if I knew more about the genre first.
Dylan Turner
>this actually looks like a lot of fun. Would consider if I knew more about the genre first.
It is, there's some grear picks. But you don't really need to be knowledgeable abouit it, it's just to have a good time and discover nice music. Besides, it's a great way to excercise your critical listening and discover what you like or don't like, without any kind of prejuices.
Ryan James
it's every episode best worst movie ever
Matthew Gomez
I'm too much of a free spirit for that kind of regimented listening (why I don't do the listenalongs) but I'm glad it exists and enjoy reading through the threads.
Also for this Fahey album, do I rate the original '71 release, or the whole '98 CD reissue? I AM CONFLICT
Easton Phillips
Oh boy, time for Reviews™
>Unwound - Repetition >Post-hardcore, noise rock
This is great. Unwound is taking their more artsy approach that their previous albums had, but they've managed to fit it in comfortably with their sound. I though s/t and Future Of What poorly incorporated the more avant-garde elements, but they've taken them in stride. This might also have some of the best bass playing I've heard from Unwound, given that the clearer mixing makes it more prominent.
>Gorguts - Obscura >Technical death metal, Avant-garde metal (both as a primary and secondary genre!), Termicore
This is a weird album. It's abundantly clear that everyone involved is very talented, and it's all very well produced and tight. Yet, I really can't say I was a fan. I think it's that the Death Metal sound in general just doesn't agree with me. I've been told this grows on you with relistens, so I'll give it another shot eventually.
What next?
(also watch Shadow of Forgotten Ancestors)
>It's a Letov recommends something from Eastern Europe episode
That was my favorite part of the season though
Nice trips.
Dominic Foster
wew boy
watch stalker next
Do Blind Willie Johnson or VDC next!!!
Josiah Martin
what is /daily/ ???

>Listen to your library, show off your backlog, babble about new music, tell us what you have been listening to today and what you will listen to in the following month, feign interest in Jangle's Thrift Tourney, listen to Mingus, just let the good times role.
We also have dank memes and tournaments, so if you like talking about music feel free to stick around!
Anthony Brooks
i think that every death metal album grows on repeated listens, since it's a very complex, dense and progressive genre but hey, that's my opinion
Jackson Parker
Ideally, you listen to music and give your thoughts about it on a daily basis. Ideally. Also listenalongs on weekends! Do we have one for this week yet btw?
Blake Nguyen
Isn't Sup Forums for it though? Or is it like Sup Forums inside Sup Forums which sounds interesting.
Aiden Moore
Listen to music a lot, discussion music a little, shitpost a lot
And whenever some dingus who can't lurk for more than a minute or read the stickey asks what these threads are about, make sure everybody responds. No fewer than five responses is allowed.
Angel Hill
This is where actual music discussion happens 2bh. Also our memes are better. Everyone is pretty friendly and cool here so if you're at all interested, stick around and feel it out and I think you'll find it's a good time. I've honestly discovered more good music from this general than anywhere else.
Carson Wilson
>discussion music a little >responses is allowed end me
Michael Miller
basically, but here you can review albums without looking too autistic. also the people are fun, the wine is good and the ladies are fine
Christopher Wilson
I think that I'll give it a try. Sounds better than current Sup Forums
Thomas Wright
no.
Joseph Rivera
I already watched Stalker. It was amazing. You know a movie's good when it's basically three guys walking through the woods for over an hour and it still keeps your attention the entire time. The long philosophical talk when they get to The Room and the train ride were both brilliant scenes.
Lucas Adams
>It's a someone mentions yamir and snuff jazz episode haha
no but honestly this sums up /daily/ better than the OP posts

>Bad Brains - s/t Though the Reggae tracks and Hardcore tracks are far from each other, and together they really don't flow at all, but apart as separate pieces they're fantastic. Both feel rebelious and passionate, though I honestly prefer the punk tracks. 8
>Keiji Haino - 慈 I do enjoy the more noise-y crunch-y sound here, but it's far from very enjoyable. Very repetitious and unsatisfying, save for the noisier middle section which was alright. 5
>Cecil Taylor - Unit Structures UH OH. I'm not exactly a fan of this style of "free piano", which I think just sounds like a shitty MIDI file. There are a few enjoyable moments on the first and second track, otherwise there's much better Free Jazz out there for my money. 5
>EL&P - Brain Salad Surgery Aside from the beginning of side two, pretty run-of-the-mill Bongprog. Liked Tarkus to an extent but this is poop!!!!! 4
Isaiah Morgan
Wew this is a really good collection of common /daily/ events. Good job.
Blake Morris
>Unit Structures >a 5

Carter Rodriguez
Good luck dude! Hit some record stores while you're there!
Adam Morgan
don't have yet. Should have either tonight or tomorrow though
It has a 4.72 average, so my expectations are high.
Aaron Collins
To be fair, people rating it at this point are probably ultra-fans so it's not really that indicative.
Alexander Cook
it is quite good though. Mazzoll & Arhythmic Perfection - a is good to begin, or Miłość - Taniec smoka.
Isaac Perez
...
Juan King
I'll give one of those a shot then. I've been wrong before.
Thomas Stewart
Never saw the track ratings for this and >not a SINGLE song below a 4.3 Can other albums even compete???
this I'll rip once it's in my possession, which will most likely be in the next couple days
Caleb Long
what lol there's some songs that obviously dont deserve it at all but whatever
Camden Mitchell
>Oh Slime that low >Baby that high
Anthony Morris
lmao
Oh Slime definitely deserves more love, but Baby is just right imo. That drop is fantastic.

The Stooges - Fun House [1970]
lmao @ the people saying this is better than the doors
Logan Jones
John Fahey - America (1st impressions) Holy shit, Fahey just clicked. I enjoyed this more than FFV actually, as it feels more raw and the 'ideas' seem to flow into each other more naturally. It's hard to write about a solo guitar album, so I'll just say give it a listen if you want a vocal-less Bert Jansch doing cocaine around the campfire. Highly recommended to fans of folk, blues or even jazz and classical. 8.5
>tfw no triggering review
Lucas Anderson
hottie :o
itt music only qts will ever understand, ill start: Liturgy
revision?
Josiah White
don't u fucking lmao at me fun house's amazing
Dylan Reed
the doors s/t is better than fun house but the rest of the doors no
Josiah Cox
"Ok" is a little harsh, but I guess that depends what you're looking for in an album. Spirit of Eden soon?
Isaiah Young
i should change the "ok" to a "yes" cause that's what it signifies
i'll do wish you were here soon, then cohen, then spirit of eden
Brandon Clark
I've always been partial to "ok sure" or "sure why not?" for ok-leaning-on-good-maybe ratings
Yeah, I've been meaning to revisit America for a while now. Btw, Fahey reuses a lot of parts from his then-recent songs for FFV, so you might have recognized a few passages on America from FFV.
Luis Gray
what the fuck
Jack Morris
>press "F" to pay respects apparently we are still getting DDOSed. kinda weird who is taking that much effort trying to bring down that stupid site.
Matthew Lewis
foetus and matmos remixes of current 93 songs sounds like a 10/10 idea
Ethan Rodriguez
Conspiracy: New topsters dude wants to take over so he can get ad money
Samuel Mitchell
I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about this already. but nah that sounds insane. and he doesn't have ads on his site anyway so theres no reason for it. I guess we just have to wait a little, one day it has to stop and meanwhile theres that new site so whatever.
Colton Cook
new site is shit desu
Ayden Ortiz
they're both kinda trash lmao

Adam Campbell
Basket Case - Baby Boom (1st impressions) This EP sounds like The Pop Group rooted in No Wave. Unfortunately it's not nearly as cool or good as that sounds, but it is noisy and interesting, and doesn't overstay it's welcome at 4 songs and 14.5 min. Recommended with reservations to fans of The Pop Group, early SY and Pere Ubu. 5.5
>women's nipples censored but not man's What the fuck indeed, triggered!!!!!

here's another one: >caring about repeating digits
Michael Miller
Only nerds who don't get repeating digits would say something like that.

Anthony Williams - Spring (1st impressions) Well, this was very pleasant and enjoyable. This is the kind of shit you listen to in a gazebo while there's a light downpour and the smell of dew fills the air. Calming and relaxing while maintaining a consistently cathartic feel. I particularly enjoyed the first track, Extras. All the instruments are consistently on point and the musicians feed each other thoughts fluently and efficiently. It's crazy to think how good Williams was at such a young age (20 here) and how well his compositions hold up. Highly recommended, and not one to skip over for fans of 60's Blue Note. 8.0
Ian Gonzalez
>(20 here) I lied, he's only 19. He turns 20 an few months after this recording.
Jackson Ross
>Ravi Shankar - music of india, 3 ragas wow this is beautiful, i'd almost say it's near perfect but all three of the ragas sound pretty similar and have the same basis: play/wank the sitar and then halfway through the song the nice drums kick in.
although i have to say these are probably the nicest drums in all of india
Joseph Miller

Have you even heard Sun Ra's best albums? I recommend Strange Strings, Sleepingbeauty, Fireside Chat with Lucifer and Lanquidity :)
