There's something of a slight copper tinge to the suntan of some Amerindians, it really isn't all that different from the slightly reddish hue other peoples who can tan may get and obviously Amerindians aren't anymore red than Asians are yellow. The color scheme was simply a popular way to distinguish races in the 19th century and not meant to be literal in the same sense few whites have skin the color of milk or blacks skin that's as dark as coal. The scheme went white for Euros, black for Africans, yellow for Asians, red for Amerindians and brown for Malays, everyone else being an in between mixture which would technically make mestizos pink, the term bronze is generally orefered in Mexico. Olive is another example of an analogue, there might be some weird form of tan amongst some people out there that has a green tinge but in general most of us understand it refers to a something more like beige or caramel.
