Thanks man, I'm fond of that song as well.
JANK has been really tearing it up in the Philly DIY scene. They have a range of genres/subgenres involving the words punk, awkward pop, and weed. It's been really enjoyable listening to them. They're secretly pretty comedic and the guitar work is so cash.
why is philly's scene so good?
How many of you guys play shows? Any advice on how to get started on that?
bar type venues or whatever, there is a guy who runs booking the shows you can usually contact them by phone even if you don't know a lot of people in the town. If your bandcamp page is halfway decent there is a good chance they will put you on some show because most shows need supporting acts to fill in the time frame. the good/bad news is the booking guy will probably not really listen to your music because there is not time to listen to everyone's music, it is easy to get "a show" don't expect to open up for a popular act though.
East Coast, young adult population has been on the rise, big artistic/bohemian/hipster/alternative grouping in Fishtown and Northern Liberties neighborhoods, areas previously pretty shitty had been rejuvenated, and the Philly colleges have never been more popular. This means more students and more recent grads than ever are staying and developing their own subcultures.
Philly also has a history of being a musical city. Recently, this is the scene that gave birth to Modern Baseball.
