in vietnam, stay in district one. you can get a cheap apartment there for around $250. watch your money closely in transactions and the taxi meters, they will try to rip you off. I would use Uber instead of taxis, it's cheaper and reliable. watch out for motor bikes, they are everywhere and they are dangerous.
bangkok has a metro and is a convenient and still relatively cheap city, but the cost of living is on the rise. i recommend staying away from the backpacker areas since you hate white people. Sukhumvit etc
