Can't post a link right now but you should check out Daemonia Nymphe
Ancient greece inspired band that made some great stuff

Yeah, they're great as far as I listened to them. Which album of theirs do you like best? Heard of them through Rome, they played a show together. Wasn't there but I read an article about that.

Oh fuck off. You don't need to make these threads a "thing", you fucking dolts.

Fuck you, I'm bored and I want to talk about music I like.

Does anyone here like Allerseelen?

I'm sorry, I don't know how someone can legitimately say they love neo-folk or martial industrial unless they like Sup Forums tier lyrics and boring music.
Its not even that its bad, its simply boring

>boring
What are you? 12? American?

youtube.com/watch?v=E9VaUgL2Rn8

Rome is legitimately amazing

There is no other music that as beautifully evokes sehnsucht and wanderlust ;^)

youtube.com/watch?v=G0oFoUzTVdM

I think that if you don't want neofolk become a big mu meme you should stop those threads.

this has always been one of my favorites youtube.com/watch?v=zU95hrkSDew

Bacchic Dance of the Nymphs and Psychostasia marked me because they are the first I listened to, but their body of work is really consistent in quality imo

Also can we talk about neo-folk without mentioning Dead Can Dance (and Brendan Perry's solo stuff) ? I don't think so because they are SIMPLY THE BEST

I suppose some people might not agree with me but 16 Horsepower is also right up there

if you tell me that this is bad you can go fuck yourself right now

youtube.com/watch?v=4V-Mgi1Fkio

No, I just think that neo-folk is boring monotonal music that has no personality behind it.

I mean, they are OK but still not my cup of tea at all.

(^:

You don't have to like it,no one cares :^)

I think there's a lot of monotonous neofolk out there, but I don't see how you can describe something like this youtube.com/watch?v=LHW-9thd0ew in those terms

There are some BDSM freaks mixed with the nazis, if we count Spiritual Front and ORE as neofolk.

Anyway, discovery of the day:
youtube.com/watch?v=4MhQlggx4lM

Best DI6 album?
Andreas Ritter (Forseti; may he rest in peace) plays accordeon and other instruments on this one.
youtube.com/watch?v=hiS6ppuwgbc

No one ever mentions Matt Howden but this is beautiful. So beautiful.
youtube.com/watch?v=yhYL8mRSP2k

Rect.

Nada!, half the tracks are pleasantly electronic.

The Torture Garden is an amazing intro.

i'm bias towards symbols because it's what i listened to on repeat for years before branching out.

Its been too long since a new Of The Wand and The Moon, probably my favourite neofolk band after DI6 and Rome
youtube.com/watch?v=IDFjvw_7Vks

Do you like Kreuzweg Ost?
youtube.com/watch?v=NbCFvtphJu8

>Montie
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Kreuzweg Ost is martial industrial.

have you heard his stuff in Solanaeceae? It's pretty good

>mfw

Yes, but it's the same scene with lots of crossovers like Von Thronstahl, Der Blutharsch, Boyd Rice and even DI6. I'm pretty sure most martial industrial fans like some neofolk and vice versa.

...

I feel bad for people who can't understand the German spoken word pieces from Aesthetik der Herrschaftsfreiheit, those are Rome at its best for me.

dailymotion.com/video/x2qj263?GK_FACEBOOK_OG_HTML5=1

Aren't those samples?
From Die Aesthetik des Widerstandes, I believe.

It's beautiful, thanks for the rec.

Is this the end game of neofolk youtube.com/watch?v=beP82Vd9N_I ?

Anybody heard the new ROME record? How is it? I kinda feel they've been on autopilot since die aesthetik der herrschaftsfreiheit

Its not great, dont see why I would listen to it instead of his better material. Some songs are good though
I was going to say I thought he burned himself out with Aesthetik, but then I really liked Passage to Rhodesia, so I dont know.

I've listened to it a few times, wasn't really a huge fan sadly

>stop talking about certain genres of music
what are you even doing on a music board u shit

I thought it was okay but nowhere near the ones I really love.
I see. I don't expect a lot but I'll give it a chance. Apparently the EP he released earlier in the year is its own thing rather than some previews of the songs for the new record like he uses to do. I'll check that out as well.

>unironically listening to fascist music

It's his return to greatness, felt like you before, didn't like anything since Die Æsthetik all that much. It's different, it's not industrial and not all that "folky" (like Rhodesia was) but it has a unique sound, distinctly Rome, the production is great and the lyrics are great. Imo best thing since Die Æsthetik, a new style that suits him well.

>implying the alt-right has anything to do with fascism other than some superficial Sup Forums-tier racial dialogue

Fascism is a means to an end, its moral value is dependent on intention. Also, neofolk is not exclusively fascist music, it is in parts antifascist, music for the historically interested, for treehuggers, for occultists or just weird fetish kink.

youtube.com/watch?v=iHJjSSrR6x4
The beginning of Agalloch's The Mantle sounds exactly like Fall Apart
I'm OK with this though, Agalloch is great.

>caring about that shit

These kinds or references are all over modern neofolk. There are some Rome songs that lift parts straight from C93. It's an homage, not plagiarism.

I was similar, and then I started liking the boring music.
Like, that's just it. Nothing else behind it. Are they horrible people? Probably. Do they make interesting music? Sometimes.

youtube.com/watch?v=kpOTpGPgsYs
youtube.com/watch?v=gVcGfk1Pl8I

Sieben gets too little attention in these threads. Fucking genius.

I love Kreuzweg Ost's Iron Avantgarde and Edelrost albums, but have yet to get deeper into Gott Mit Uns.

I agree though that it's rather martial industrial and only some of their tracks are Neofolk in the way Triarii is.

pic related - Peaceful Snow - is your (You), OP. It's really good on some days.

I listened to that album a lot for some time, before delving into more obscure DI6 releases. It doesn't quite live up to my imagination of the hot steamy gay sex Doug and Miro Snejdr must have had recording it.

Well, that's none of by business. I don't know the songs from any other albums, and like quite a few of them.
My Company Of Corpses strikes me first, thinking of it.

Never heard Sieben before. Interesting - I love to listen to and play the violin.

youtube.com/watch?v=c1fu_PfXS1U

Pic related is a more recent excursion from Albin Julius: Der Blutharsch And The Infinite Church Of The Leading Hand "Joyride"

>My Company Of Corpses
You're stirring up memories, my man! I'm not saying it's a bad album, it's just something I've heard too often. I really like the re-recordings though. The Snow Bunker Tapes is Peaceful Snow songs with more typical DI6 instrumentation.

Sounds good, will search for.

Pic related is a coop with Der Blutharsch, wasn't interested in it at the beginning, but I'm starting to like it.

Listen to this song, guys:
youtube.com/watch?v=kQn9pYXRNGM

I think it's pretty good instrumentally, I like how they merge Roseclouds era DI6's style with these über-compressed martial drums but I can't stop cracking up at the "begging for gold" part later in the song, these voices just sound so ridiculous and the lyrics are so cheesy, I fucking love it, funny as hell..

I'm not a big fan of Von Thronstahl, but maybe you'll like this - if only for its lacking subtlety:

youtube.com/watch?v=UhpP51FOSGs

Yeah, that's a good record!
My first DI6 album was Roseclouds Of Holocaust, powerful stuff. Check out Black Whole Of Love if you can, only discovered that one recently, one of the more obscure releases. I also recommend the Symbols & Clouds Totenpop Re-Recordings and Brown Book.

Thx, will check.

The best albums are nearly unobtainable.

A friend has the 1991 But What Ends When The Symbols Shatter, doesn't listen to it and teases me with how he never will sell it to me...

>the bird is dead now

What did he mean by this?

Thank god for soulseek :^)
But yeah, physical is something else.
That LP must be worth a lot.

It's the CD digipack, but also quite rare.

King Dude is also one of my favourites, had the pleasure to see him live twice and have a chat.
youtube.com/watch?v=DpfdbGllLBE

What do you guys think about this chart I've made some time ago?

Saved for later, thanks. Will listen into some.
Sol Invictus - In The Rain - good choice.

Good! Didn't listen to all of those, will do so in the future. I'd say it's missing Ordo Rosarius Equilibio.

Is this considered neo-folkie?

youtube.com/watch?v=HL-uvITI7fo

I can always expand it. I'm just gonna need some album recs.

Looking at the thumbnail, I'd say no. It likely isn't.

Excellent! Satyriasis by Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio & Spiritual Front should be on there, I guess. Also Eine Neue Hoffnung by Jännerwein. Two modern classics.

I'm new in neofolk, just listened DI6 and Rome from that list. What's the less martial thing I could listen to? I'd like things like Rome's Flowers from Exile

>like Rome's Flowers from Exile
Hyperion Machine, I guess. Comes closest to that album, feel-wise. Rome in general is pretty accessible.

What distinguishes folk from neo-folk? I get impression that most of it isn't really about fascism or even politics for that matter, so what then?

Where should one start if they wanted to get into di6?

It's hard to define but the closest you'll get to the truth is describing it as European post-industrial folk or folk pop which tries to a large extent to ignore the American musical tradition and take inspiration from European pre-1960s culture, European history and landscapes. This also explains the prevalence of fascistic themes. Multi-ethnicist and anti-modernist philosophy is key.

Symbols & Clouds
Discriminate

apart from Rome, other artists?

thx anyways, I'll give it a listen

Groups like DI6 aren't actual fascists though, right? I suspect that Douglas Pierce uses all the nazi/martial imagery because he merely finds it interesting or because of the shock value.

My neofolk folder.

I share all that shit on Slsk.

t. European :^)

it's their only perfect album from start to end

This guy is great, although his more recent stuff is more metal than folk. He's definitely neofolk crowd, though. I talked with him about rune things when he was in my city. He's a great guy.

Of The Wand And The Moon might be for you.
Also, more DI6.

He likely is a strasserist. A left-leaning National Socialist but a National Socialist still.

Are those flac? If so: stp42, is that you?

Listen to Oniric and Spiritual Front.

youtube.com/watch?v=40-wmbE53yI

youtube.com/watch?v=GYK-oFBlFR4

Neofolk from Norway
youtube.com/watch?v=o_QbyP6q0AQ

>Are those flac?

Nah. My audio equipment isn't the best and most of the things I have are pretty rare, so flacs rarely exist anyway. I'm usually happy when things aren't in 128 kbit/s.

Eh, I like Varg Vikerness's music and Douglas Pierce has never killed anyone, so it's not a big deal.

mrko?

Daily reminder that if the Fascism flavor of neofolk disgusts you, this might not be your style of music and you shouldn't get into it just because people tell you it's amazing.

That being said, I still remember me more than a decade ago loving "Rose Clouds of Holocaust" for being a great song while still thinking it was Nazi music. Getting over that initial impression and finding out things weren't what they seemed made me a better person, though.

more like this?

Nope.

I agree. If fascism disgusts you, this may not be you cup of tea.
Rome is anarchist though, listen to Rome.

Tenhi, Nest, Musk Ox, October Black, Pyhä Kuolema, Havnatt, Empyrium.

music is music, there is no need to let the author change how you think it sounds

This is an opinion a lot of people wouldn't share.

Thats is plain not true. Image is a large part of the art of music

instead of arising from folk music traditions, neofolk arose out of the industrial scene, which is why there's so much crossover with martial industrial

initially it was referred to as "apocalyptic folk" which i think is a good descriptor. fascism or cryptofascism aside, neofolk tends to be dark and brooding

>Excellent! Satyriasis by Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio & Spiritual Front should be on there, I guess. Also Eine Neue Hoffnung by Jännerwein. Two modern classics.
I will post the updated version tomorrow and some more recs would be nice.

Most neo-folk really isn't fascist tbqh

But it LOOKS fascist to the untrained eye.

What is your neofolk AOTYSF?

Mine is pic related. It gets better with each listen, even after 20+ listens.

Douglas Pearce isnt really a fascist hes just interested in neo nazis and he talked to some eastern european neo nazis and now thats just the crowd they attract but they are not personally neo nazis
