Alright...

Alright, I haven't been on Sup Forums in a few days but are we all pretty much in agreement that this new American Football album is a shameless cash grab right?

It feels hollow. The ST album was real, raw teenage feelings. A short burst of emotion from a teenage love in the summer. Then they all moved on and that was the end of it. There's literally NO reason to go back to this project besides it becoming popular again. Mike's voice doesn't have the power it used to, the track they released sounds stale as hell. Even before the tour started Mike stated he thought it was weird being nearly 40 and singing about teenage feelings. What will this album even be about?

Shut up

t. someone who doesn't understand where bands get their money

What is Owen?

Why not just tour the ST album a bit more, sell some more merch and then just keep going with Owen or just make a new project with all the original members? It just feels like they're using the name to make money.

Mike's lyrical content will probably be quite similar to Owen. He'll sing about getting old, about changing relationships, about looking back retrospectively on past decisions and relationships. He's 40, that's an age where you realise that you aren't really young anymore. He has a lot to reflect on. The first track wasn't brilliant, but I'll have to listen to the full album before I can pass any judgements.

Goddamn their new single is shit

I feel like this could really be something special actually-
Judging by the titles of the songs it seems like it's an album that's going to be looking back on the things he said when was young and emotional, i.e. when American Football was released. He's 40 now, and I think it might be about coming to terms with the world we live in and everything that happens around you now that everything isn't so idyllic and dramatic. In that way, I feel this is actually the perfect time for another American Football record. At least that's what I got from the single.

All professional bands make new music because they make money from it, American Football is no different from every single other band or artist being talked about rn. Frank Ocean drops the kind of music he does bc he's popular and it sells, it's natural.

You can't be a huge band or artist and release music only because you think it's fun, then you're not a huge band or artist, no one is "genuine".

It's not even out yet, ya goof.

People who like American Football & Owen will like the new album, simple.

idk, I liked it

Fuck me the vocals sound like a gay southern country song

Agreed

the new Owen album was one of the best of the year, so this makes me especially happy

Wasn't big on the vocals. Instrumentation and arrangement is abit simple too.

I think the album has potential to be great but this has made me abit unsure.

>i don't like it when musicians try to make money
>even when they dropped a genre-influencing album and got essentially nothing for it

fuck off they deserve this

>its a Sup Forums being contrarian episode

It was a good track, fuck.

What a shitty name for an Album

this, the album was announced not 24 hours ago and op already knows what the entire album is about and what it means

>It just feels like they're using the name to make money.

Which is their right

It's THEIR band name, they can do whatever they want with, not have to worry about offending an autist like you

I liked the new single desu

Same

This.

I think the vocals had a little too much at times (backing vocals during certain lyrics), but the instrumentation was pretty fucking good. It will be American Football sound paired with Owen lyricism it seems like, which I don't mind at all because I think Mike is a good song writer.

This is one of those bands where it would be a good idea to make some new music because of how the first album was. The sound they had on their self-titled record and EP influenced and spawned a lot of god damn twinkly emo bands in the mid to late 2000's. I just don't want it to sound too overdone or polished if that makese sense.
