I like Grimes and pop in general.

>music shouldn't be pleasurable to listen to

I like pop and hate grimes.

>implying pop is pleasant to listen too

i don't care if you like pop music. i just can't stand it when grimesfags try to pretend that grimes is anything more than generic synthpop

>implying she isnt the artist of the decade

shes too old

I hate Grimes and decide how I feel about pop on an album-by-album basis.

she's good generic synthpop though.

i like her better than matt & kim

The artist of the decade got saturated out of the marketplace by cunts like this one. You'll never hear their album.

>bandcamp.com
>soundcloud.com
>literally anywhere on the internet.com

>implying the artist of the decade would ever have a place in the market
if their music is selling to anything more than a small devoted fanbase, then you know it's uncreative, pandering shit.

she isn't even synth pop except on a few songs.

synth pop is one of the best genres ever, and her synth pop songs (such as Realiti and the Visions album) are also among the greatest of all time.

"generic" means something that just is average and standard of whatever genre it's part of. that's not true of the synth pop by grimes. talk talk's the colour of spring is also a synth pop album that also stands out in its genre. therefore no one with knowledge of synth pop would call that masterful synth pop album by talk talk "generic" and no one would call Grimes' Visions album "generic" synthpop. even if you dislike them, they aren't typical of their genre, they are pretty experimental synth pop, including influences of other genres such as classical, jazz, blues, gospel (talk talk's colour of spring) or classical, r&b, new age, ambient, industrial, house, dream pop, IDM (grimes's visions).

holy fucking shit dude

She's 27 lol

it's generic. get over it. 50% of those genres that you posted are repeated multiple times on that list. the other 50% were completely pulled out of your delusional ass
>no wave
i sincerely hope that lydia lunch kicks your ass one of these days.

and no one was talking about age or generations (she's millennial anyway) but "decade." the decade started in 2010 and that's the same year she dropped her first album and second one too. ALL grimes released music has been in the 2010s. that's not true of many other artists people talk about as best of decade. so it's legit to say she is a defining 2010s artist. if an artist is young enough they are just starting out now over halfway through the decade, it's unlikely they would define the whole decade.

Is this a Grimes hate thread or a Grimes appreciation thread?

Lmao

You're cool. Would hang out with.

she isn't you turd

Careful with that edgy try hard opinion.

>generic synthpop
>triggered
What's generic about her synthpop? Literally, name similar artists.

Great post. I agree with that.

...

all that and it still sounds worse than thisyoutube.com/watch?v=7bGDi5m9I8c
grimes confirmed shit

>Literally, name similar artists.

>chvrches
>purity ring
>passion pit
>halsey
>phantogram
>neon indian
>matt and kim
>insert more tryhard hipster shit here

the fact that you're going to say that those artists sound nothing like grimes only proves the fact that you're delusional and that participating in this argument at all is pointless

what are some really great pop artists that are never discussed on Sup Forums?

santogold
youtube.com/watch?v=Ez2wYCRjYyY

She changed it to Santigold you pleb

Entry Level Pop = Kanye West
Medium Level Pop= Grimes, Radiohead
Exit Level Pop = My Bloody Valentine
Post-Pop = Fishmans

>she isn't even synth pop except on a few songs.
>implying you're not pulling the majority of those inspirations out of your ass
even if it was inspired by all those genres (it wasn't) that wouldn't make it not synthpop. it would make it synthpop with those influences.

also: ecclectic=/=good
go listen to 21 pilots if you disagree

But they don't sound like Grimes, dumbass! Seriously. How the fuck Halsey, Chvrches, Purity Ring, etc sound like Kill V Maim or Weregild or Oblivion or Scream or Rosa or pick whatever Grimes song you want? Do you have ears?

That track you posted is confirmed as shit that no one even cares, except you, the special snowflake.

okay pitchfork drone :)

Except her latest album was trash.

4/4 metronomic kick-snare dance beat, verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus, 3-5 minute songs, 4-chord progressions (or less [see the two chord progression in oblivion]), repeated simplistic synth hooks, trite cliche lyrics, synth leads, dreamy vocals filtered through a shitton of reverb and echo filters, desperate appeal to the corporately constructed countercultural movement (aka modern day teenage hipsters), etc. if you can't see the obvious similarities, then you're just retarded

>blindest is he who does not wish to see

i haven't even listened to it desu. i just like her ST

grimes uses much stranger and funkier beats and time signatures, lots of syncopation. she even throws weird beats into seemingly normal pop songs- listen carefully to the beats in california, they cut out at weird moments, creating a more dope rhythm no one else could've programmed. that's why her music is so inspiring and inspires dancing and moshing even when she is singing about emotionally vulnerable shit. her fandom is the best on earth and unites everyone from 12 year old disney pop stars to 20 year old indie heads to 30 year old r&b artists to 50 year old metal heads. she is the new bowie who by the way, was also "synth pop" at times.

chvrches writes beautiful pop rock anthems but their music is best on the first listen and wears off faster due to lack of rhythmic complexity on par with grimes. they're more like a synthier version of arcade fire- basically a rock band, with less interesting beats than grimes.

the same is true of most of the artists you mentioned- their beats just can't compare (or their vocal melodies). chvrches is one of the better ones- but they aren't equal to her. grimes' song kill v maim is one of her few songs which is in a style that band could perform, but it is much better than almost any chvrches song. also you can thank grimes for helping chvrches get their start, if you're a fan of them- she repped them and lorde when they were just a soundcloud artist, back in 2012, helping them get signed. the fact chvrches exist is not thanks to grimes, but you might never have heard of them without her. their style of music was seen as unfashionable and underrated by critics until grimes came along.

Great post. was btfo, absolutely.

Her ST was great, the second one almost as good, but on the third one she lost the plot. She became so bland...

asspulls the posts

>rhythmic complexity
>grimes

How can someone type so much but say so little?

This is literally retard pseud tries to pretend he is knowledgable: the post

Thanks for yet again confirming my bias of all grimes fans being vain and retarded underage trying to look smart and horribly failing.

none of those sound similar to each other, either

Yes. More complex than your shitty favorite band.

So, when someone gives you a legit and informed argument, you piss on it like a retard. What the fuck do you want more? A kick in the ass to understand? You and your bias are both pieces of shit.

Really? What a coincidence, since I can't believe you used to think this board had good taste either.

Excellent post btw

This one as well

Pro-tip: There are only two kinds of posts that get lots of responses - really good ones and really bad ones. And clearly neither of these is the latter.

It's funny to see so many trolls triggered by actual good posts that you already mentioned. They will do anything to disparage any good arguments.

I'm convinced its grimes herself shilling her own shitty music

grimes doesnt have the time so we do it for her, hater

for free?
