Marseille is a special case. I'm from Nice, which is a thousand times better, and way closer to the italian border.
Oh and btw Northern Italy looks like a shithole compared to southern France in some parts. I remember when crossing the border, the tunnels were all without any lighting and the roads were badly maintained (even though it has improved recently).
