The Saudis and Iran are doing the same thing, Iran as the leading Shia nation is supporting the Shia factions while the Saudis as the leading Sunni faction is supporting the Sunnis.

The reason the Saudis are doing this is because Saddam was a Sunni and held Iran in check but now that the Shiites have taken power in Iraq they feel encircled by Iran and thus want to have either Iraq or Syria flip to the Sunnis again.

In the end none of this would have happened if Saddam was still in power so it is Americas fault.
