Who?

could be worse/10

What's the name of that shy blonde blue eyed girl from Czech Streets ?
I've only seen one video of her and I'm sure that she is famous.
And no isn't Abigail Johnson

I've heard good things. as a typical American I don't know enough about you.

foodthiefs
stop calling stews gulash

That language is awful, probably one of the most difficult in the I-E family to learn.

shhh, Zoltán
have some langoš

POOOOOOORRRRRRRRNNNNNNN

mám rád česko! (-:

My favourite country, absolutely beautiful and comfy. People are suspicious of foreigners and I think that it is only for the best.

10/10 will visit again

czech isn't super difficult to learn
it's just a little daunting when you first start out

Skoro mluvím český, a brzy budu žít ve vaší zemi.

buzi

this

Hey budget Russia. Do you know any good Czech fiction books that I can use to practice the language?

What do you use to learn Czech?

I am learning too and need some interactive exercises or something. Books are good but they are mostly with dry grammar.

try Švejk

I use a textbook called čeština hrou, and a frequency dictionary to supplement it. The dictionary has the 5,000 most frequent words, and if you get through it, you'll understand 95% of the language.
>tfw already know >4,000 words

Here you go.
books.google.com/books?id=ypWpAgAAQBAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false

Did you know that Czech has no proper word for "cousin"? There's separate words for male and female cousin but none for just "cousin" in of itself.

Böhmen is a brocountry.

I'll czech it out.

On that note though, do they write any modern books, or is Czech literature only depressing Commie-era war books.

it's the same here, so it doesn't surprise me at all

we also had no word for sibling, so they recently had to invent one; dunno if it's the same in Czech

They do. There was this Czech writer of pop fiction that was quite popular here in the previous decade and I can't remember his name but I do remember he had a German surname

Dekuji! Yeah, realized that the trick is to learn the most frequent words and then probably just learn grammar so you learn how to conjugate them and so on. In English, there are maybe just a few hundred words that are used in 80% of every day language.

Still trying to make some kind of plan/program on how to learn Czech the best...

It's the same in Lithuanian. Pusbrolis, pusseserė - literally half brother, half sister. There is no 'neutral' word for both.

Sourozenec

try: Jiří Kulhánek (guy is fucked in the head, but the books are GOAT), František Kotleta (especially the novel Lovci) or Miroslav Žamboch

i use amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1444106910/

which comes with an audio book for pronunciation
it's pretty good desu

My boiis

Sorojenec is our word for sibling too but I can't find any sources for it online prior to the turn of the millenium. I'd sooner say it's a borrowing from Czech rather than an old Slovenian word.

Thanks Pavel. That's exactly the kind of stuff I'm looking for.

Pretty good at hockey

>tfw czechia got screwed by injuries before wch and never had a chance

It'd be easier if you provided a pic, you know.

There are no Deutsches volk in sudeten.
T. Sudeten czech

This desu. Or you can just browse the Czechstreets page.

In good old days we would have amply supply of Slovaks to fill the ranks :(

Also why are here so many people trying to learn czech? What gave you the idea to move here?

Good people, gun laws, beer and sexy women.

Love

i'm not moving there don't worry czechlad
i am a big fan of czech cinema and wanted to learn the language to watch untranslated films and possibly translate them myself
so for fun, basically

Pelisky?
Ucho?
Vyssi princip?
Obchod na korze?
Obecna skola?

Pretty great country 2bh

Babovřesky

People are gonna find u weird for moving here tho. Mainly if you end up outside of Prague aka proper czechland

>hasguns
>no Akbars
>slavs but not the depressed kind
>hates commies
It's a good backup country if Bern-victims, commies, Mexicans, or terrorists ever take over here.

>Pelisky?
haven't seen it
>Ucho?
yes!
>Vyssi princip?
no but that looks great thanks
>Obchod na korze?
yes!
>Obecna skola?
no

the Czech Republic sounded better

I want to live in Morava

You have to watch Pelišky mate

Pelisky is probably movie u are not gonna experience fully if u have not been growing up in czsk or ddr.

Probably the most subtle movie we made.

Czech hunter

fucking habit

But it actually is Pelíšky

Czechia seems to be pretty comfy country
I've never met any of Czech people so dunno.

Moravia.. gonna find yourself some prime Moravian breeder and pump out half a dozen of kids on outskirts of Olomouc?

Not a bad plan + lifetime supply of slivovice for the whole family as a bonus
Csfd.cz and go to zebricky and check Czechoslovakia. The higher ranked ones are hardly ever a miss... I would avoid book adaptations if I were u and read the book.

i'll put it in my watchlist but i honestly prefer historical dramas

films like údolí včel, čest a sláva, jan hus, kladivo na čarodějnice

You can have a trial run at Karlsbad

It is?
I started writing it out of habit because we have word in Lithuanian 'peteliškė' :^) I had it as Pelisky in computer because there weren't Czech letters in torrent.

Olomouc is fucking beautiful

And there is just something about your countryside that is different from here, it seems more cultured, taken care of

Hacker pls go.

>Moravia.. gonna find yourself some prime Moravian breeder and pump out half a dozen of kids on outskirts of Olomouc?
Really, I'm all ears.

Reign of russians in Karlsbad is over. Now Vietnamese are taking over desu

t. tinfoil hats strewn all over my safe space

Karlsbad is very popular among the people with disabilities here (dunno why desu)

You're not fooling me Ivan. You hacked your flag to look like mine just like you hacked those dubs.

I'm calling 911 if you don't knock it off.

If it were me though as a someone from borderlands I would choose southern Moravia near Austrian border... Lednice probably. Breed my own dynasty there and my kids could spend their childhood shooting German tourists with an air gun in true czech fashion

Don't make me hack you John, just don't.

>(dunno why desu)
well it's a spa town, so it kinda makes sense

Pelisky shows the human side of the old regime, mainly 1968.

All those diacritics alone give me a headache.

Good architecture
Good porn
Good beer
Super high rate of junkies

>Hate commies

Ruling party of Czech gov is called Communist party of Bohemia and Morava

commies are not a ruling party tho

lots of pornstars come from there. all of them do anal,dp and interracial, very good white sluts

2. Fairly decent country, given circumstances. As people I think we think a bit too highly of ourselves without results to match.

Is "Czechia" proper English or do we only say "Czech Republic"? How is it pronounced? And how do you say Česka Republika or whatever it is? Cheska Repooblikah or something?
Sorry for returded Murican question but I was in Prague on an unexpected trip this summer and fucking loved it and want to know how to say stuff

They are both official now.

Don't think I've actually heard Czechia pronounced yet but it's probably gonna be something like "check-ya"

>Fairly decent country, given circumstances

Don't look at me.

Yes, this short name was approved very recently, however most Czechs as far as I know don't really like it and prefer to use Česka Republika or Česko. It might sound weird in English to call it Czechia, but in most, or at least many European countries its equivalent is used. For example in Lithuanian it's Čekija, which is exactly how you would pronounce Czechia.

Czechia is probably something like checkeeyah and you are right about Česka Respublika.

The problem with "Česko" is that it implies that everyone in the country is "Czech". Čechy (Czechs in English) implies/means Bohemian which is a region in central region, but the republic is made not only from Czechs but also Moravians. So the most appropriate use is Czech Republic, so that it means that it is Republic which belongs to Czechs, but not that everyone in Republic is Czech.

I am not sure if this is clear or if this is even correct, so if any Czech could explain it better and correct me that would be great. I am still learning this.

Seriously, fuck that asshole, fuck Novotny, and fuck Husak.

"Česko" and "Česká republika" have the same "problem", and it's a complete non-issue. People are more triggered by seeing bilingual polish signs that by not being mentioned in state's name.

Only place where it might matter slightly more is rivalry between winemakers from south moravia and south bohemia. But they take care of their own brands.

t. silesian.

What's your opinion on Zeman? I hear he triggers a lot of memelennials.

would be cooler if it was Turkey instead

Slavbros

Oh okay

Thank you for clarifying. Yeah, I knew it wasn't a real problem, just a thing that exists.

Its the future of Western civilization once we stop sucking so much cock of all the big guys around us and start focusing on being sovereign

Flag
slavic brothers

oh no-o, you tried pulling that one once and we all know how that ended up

I only say Tschechei because it makes Czechs butthurt

Zeman used to be an intelligent socialist economist, member of parliament and prime minister. Yes yes I know this sounds bad, but back then he was alright, especially by czech standards.
As he advanced through political layers however he got surrounded by increasing amount of morally dubious people. To some extent this was unavoidable, given continuity of state apparatus and the pool of people with skills and experience that could be drawn upon. His government ended up being so-so. Some good things got done, like privatization of banks by western corporations etc. Some questionable things got done too.

Some time later, as we sought successor to Havel as president, Zeman was one of candidates. However his party stabbed him in the back and his rival, Klaus, the faux libertarian, got into office instead. Zeman retired into countryside, probably with personal financial problems to boot.

Few more years later Zeman made a comeback as first directly elected president. After an emotional campaign he won by decent margin and began his constitution stretching antics he's known for now. His direct and undiplomatic language is his hallmark feature, but unfortunately he keeps surrounding himself with yes-men and characters of dubious integrity, including representatives of chinese and russian business.

tl;dr he's a caricature of his former self. His unorthodox style is appreciated by many, but he's became a petty, narcissistic person.
