Chinatown/Noir thread

"Forget it Jake, it's Chinatown".

Was this his partner trying to tell him that he can't do anything or that the cops are as blind as the citizens of chinatown?

Blade Runner

Hmm, not sure. Shattered (1991) comes to mind, very old-school

>MF or ToE
ToE.
>Neonoir
The Man Who Wasnt There

The Man Who Wasnt There

The best neo-noir for me is The Long Goodbye. Amazing movie

No Rififi?

I hate the way it looks, that cheap washed out 70's photography. Disgusting

>Was this his partner trying to tell him that he can't do anything or that the cops are as blind as the citizens of chinatown?
No, he was telling him that it's chinatown. That nobody gives a shit about what happens there and there's no point in trying.

Jake had previously gotten really invested in a case in Chinatown that ended badly. He failed and blamed himself.

History was repeating itself and his partner was reminding him that there was nothing he could really do and it wasn't worth it.

Considered by many to be the best screenplay ever written by the way.

Yeah I understand. It's not for everybody. Personally, I really liked the style.

What leaves a bad taste in my mouth every time I watch it:

HEY Jake, you FUCK, maybe not meet with her father 1 hour before they want to escape and get taken by surprise!!!

>Considered by many to be the best screenplay ever written by the way.

Why's this?

God, my blood is boiling just thinking about this

based Mamet
watch Homicide next, it's his best ;)

Sprawling and with huge depth in plot and character, subverts a lot of tropes, full of symbolism ect.

The Big Clock and DOA make a comfy double feature.

Ya i gotta agree that the 70s style was too much for me too. Even the wisecracking lead was too "70s cool".

Someone like The Dude fits the noir recipe much better with his complete indifference.

>What have you watched lately?
This World, Then the Fireworks
>Which is your favourite?
Asphalt Jungle
>Maltese Falcon or Touch of Evil?
Touch of Evil
>Favorite neo-noir?
Basic Instinct
>Neo-noir most true to noir elements?
Body Heat

Dead Reckoning has always been a bit underrated as far as Bogart's noir films go imo
