I finally watched this film as an in flight movie and fuck me it was terrible.
Everything about it was bad.
The plot, the casting, the acting, the dialogue.
Some of the visuals were nice, but fuck what an awful film.

They are literally never going to have any Finn/Poe/Kylo backstory in the movies. Their roles/characters are determined already. They will save Rey's backstory for the movies though, because that's where all the twists seem to be hidden.

As such, they resort to Godwinning the Empire, when it wasn't a pure nazi parallel in the first place. Asimov's GE was the basis for Lucas's re-imagining (if the name DARTH Vader speaks for anything), but there's also the British vs Americans pottery, plus "older imperial guys vs younger rebel heroes" aspect (yes, there were exceptions, but still).
In TFA they weirdly made the First Order out of young actors (and Snoke), even though Jay Jay described them "runaway nazis hiding in Argentina", so they should have been old grizzled veterans.
