This is the main difference people can't seem to get their head around. There's a big difference between an adaption, and black/white/Asian washing.

The Hollywood version of the departed is a western adaption, this ghost in a shell is an adaption. Just changing Roland to black or Johnny storm to black is black washing.

I personally think it will bomb anyway. Outside the casting choices Steven King novels dont usually translate well to the big screen (with a few notable exceptions - the more grounded ones).

Throwing a black guy into the lead also isnt good from a marketing perspective. Thats not racism, thats just being objective in knowing that most other people probably wont go to see it because the lead is black.
