I've been here regularly since mid 2012 about when Baneposting was at it's height, even with a few of the retarded spammers was mostly still the case. Sup Forums didn't really start getting fast until sometime in 2014. Then again I've always been more of a late night poster and one of the things that drew me here was actually the fact that there seemed to be a healthy amount of posters over 25. That absolutely doesn't feel like the case now.

I wish I didn't. There were days in 2010 when Sup Forums was more than 60% waifu threads, at least capeshit is on topic.

Both have been discussed on Sup Forums for years and are technically on-topic
Although topics are the symptom, they are not the problem
The problem is that the userbase has grown to love shitposting
That's not to say people have shitposted on Sup Forums but over the last couple of years the number of people who come here only to shitpost has vastly outnumbered the people who also like to have nice discussions in between their shitposting
Shitposting requires less time to think and type so it will always be quicker than real discussion
Just look at a BLACKED thread, for example
Left alone they always reach 100+ posts in about 20 minutes instead of being reported and hidden like the dailypasta of old
The majority of this board's population just loves to post retarded off-topic shit for the sake of it without contributing anything of value at other times
It's no wonder that this board has also in that same time frame has become a place for memes

Board used to be slow and enjoyable. Threads might stay up for several days. Putting effort in posts or threads was generally rewarded more than low-effort bait or shitposts. Things like ">tfw" came along and streamlined the way you could make a successful thread. Before where you might have to think about how you wanted to articulate your thoughts now you could just slap on a ">tfw no gf" and get the same result.

Moderation has always been lax, an upside for a smaller board, but as more people came to use the board they flooded it with users who treat the board like a community. The concept of self-moderation was totally alien to them. They came to litter the board with shitposts for that cheap dopamine rush that comes from pressure-free social interaction.

Anyway, r9k is a total landfill now. It really has been since 2012. Just sad to see how I can't post on the board I considered my homeboard for nearly half a decade (08-12) without attracting shiteating replies like "GTFO NORMIE REEEE".
