Let's talk about chinks and gooks. Saw anything cool lately, like A Bright Summer Day on bluray or just into Korean thrillers? Excited about any new arthouse release or old shit like all the yakuza/Nikkatsu noir films Arrow has been releasing lately? Post ITT

Johnnie To has a new action thriller coming out called Three, which I'm really excited about. Looks like he's going back to his stylish style, like in The Mission and Exiled, which were influenced by Melville's surreal minimalism and Leone's use of time and space

Park Chan Wook of Oldboy fame's new film The Handmaiden, which is about to premiere at Cannes has an exciting trailer inspired by Fincher's TGWTDT

Another Korean at Cannes -but out of competition- new crime thriller from the filmmaker of The Chaser: The Wailing

Meanwhile in Japan, we want the capeshit audience: The Ring VS The Grudge. What are they smoking?

Kore-eda-san also has a movie at Cannes, can't find the trailer with sound

anyone know what wong kar-wai up to?
(this is bump)

koreeda is my biggest aspiration
he's a genius and a humble person
truly the best director working right now
(sorry costa and guerin, but it's true)
i had the great pleasure of meeting him, he's the best person in the wold
i love you kore-eda
i'll try to watch after the storm as soon as i can

A brighter summer day was soon good. Watched that, next morning was a city of sadness by HHH. Love the Taiwanese new wave

you living life HHH and EY true goats of cinema, TML cloe too

I saw Hope. It's about a rape victim. It's good. Real underage actress. psychological issues were dramatic the supporting characters are lovable. Average Korean standard

What do you think of Chen Kaige? I recently downloaded all his films and hope to go through them chronologically. I've only seen Temptress Moon and the Emperor and the Assassin, Why did he make pic related?

I think EY's best was YIYI. Then Summer Day. Then he was not so good.

And I think Dust in the Wind was HHH's best. I can watch it for a fourth time. But anything after City of Sadness are shits. It's like the fame of CoS corrupted him.

TML has a consistent output but I am too bourgeois for him.

Ang Lee's works in Taiwan are not really good.

There is a guy called CHUNG MONG-HONG who is supposed to be successor of new wave. He is actually good in Fourth Picture

I have shamefully only seen Yellow Earth. Even as a huge fan of Zhang Yimou I was not particularly impressed, it was solid but nothing special. That kinda killed my exploration of his work but I plan to get back to it at some point.

Millenium Mambo and Goodbye South, Goodbye really do nothing for you? Or the middle story in 3 times?

I have only seen his extravaganza Wuxia shit. I haven't even finished Concubine

One day I saw Not One Less. It was comfy. Not great but comfy.

Sorry.

It's just weird because he didn't turn into a completely different filmmaker, sure none of those films are as good as CoS but doesn't mean they're not still strong works.

Speaking of HHH I think these two MV by Lin Chung are good

So there was this short film that used to be posted in webm threads, I think it was chinese, the webm was two girls casually dancing with deadpan faces at a bus stop, the camera slowly zooms into one of the girls' face for about a minute.

I can't remember the name of the film for the life of me.

Don't watch John Woo's The Crossing. It's ridiculously bad.

I don't know where he got the idea to make this. I hope he was not inspired by Cape No 7 or Seediq Bale

TIME TO PLAY THE GAAAAAME

I have seen it but I forgot. It's by China.

My last rec. Ann Hui's Golden Era.

I feel that movies with Tang Wei are always ok. Haven't seen her Jackie Chan biopic yet.

Can we talk about shitty Filipino cinema is? Because at this point, Lav Diaz, Antoinette Jadaone, Erik Matti and Jerrold Tarog cannot save Flipfag movies alone.

Also, good luck gettin that Darna movie off the ground because when that movie has stuck in pre-production development hell after all these years, have a (assumingly Christmas) 2016 release date and yet to announce who'll play the iconic Filipino superhero, your movie is in shambles from the get go.

>no John Lloyd Cruz
Just, why?

Are there working subs for Love and Peace (sion Sono)?

All I found is this shit
>the nuclear crisis isn t ove^
>From the point view of
brain science
>trying new things
ncreases dopamine levels.
>That’s a no-brairoer!

>Park Chan Wook of Oldboy fame's new film The Handmaiden
meh

watched Dragon Inn last weekend, gonna get around to A Touch of Zen at some point

...

Is this kino?

What the fuck did I just watch?

...

Bump

Reminder that Lee Chang Dong is the greatest director at work today.

he seriously needs to make another movie. he was going to do one with zhang ziyi but it got cancelled i think.

His name is seriously dong? wtf lol
If I were him I would change my name

...

...

love koreeda

There's also Train to Busan in Cannes, which is a zombie movie I believe

...

...

Never tire of watching this.

Ending felt a bit empty.

My favorite film.

It's a flick.

Any recommendations along the lines of the Whispering Corridors series? Aka the drama and politics and abuse of all-girls schools in Asia, paranormal optional?

Now this is good taste

pretty good SK thriller

Japanese drama that doesn't rely on violence or weird psychological shit

That's because most movies they churn out cater to the masses. Anyhoo, Jake Macapagal should be on that list

dude that literally looks like if chloe g moe was asian lol

Looks like a rip off of the blue lagoon

I'm a pretty big fan of The Terrorizers, and tried to watch a shitty version of Mahjong but gave up due to quality. How do you watch Yang's other films? Non-USA?

is it true that china will ban gay shit on television?

does that mean american cinema will tone it down on the lgbt shit to pander to the chinese market?

Any good Asian movies with hairy chicks? Especially armpits?

I.e. most Japanese dramas.

>american cinema
>chinese television
i think you mean capeshit and movie theater

i remember seeing some stuff from the 80s having some

Tomorrow they are releasing Shinya Tsukamoto's Fires on the Plain on blu ray on japan, I hope to find a torrent soon.

Also they are planning on releasing a blu ray collection of other films by him.
youtube.com/watch?v=YBtp2BpL2yE

i hope so too. always interested in tsukamoto stuff even if his output as of late has been hit or miss for me.
i'm hoping the u.s gets them at some point. i know that the u.k. has a good chunk of them.

I'm interested on Haze and Vital in HD.
I still think his early films are much better than his last ones.

I recently watched a few Takashi Miike films:
The Mole Song: Undercover Agent Reiji was pretty fun (Miike is making a sequel), Yakuza Apocalypse was a fun mess and the Ace Attorney live action was alright.

any hong sang-soo fans?
