Surreal Social Realism

Looking for recommendations of surreal social realism

along the lines of
Dogtooth by Lanthimos,
L'Humanitie by Dumont,
Attenberg by Tsangari
and anything else you think would fit the bill

dogtooth was pretty cool, don't know if i would want to watch other movies like it though.

anything by Wes Anderson

they shoot you in the head if you stop talking in a fast low monotone voice

user, could you explain stupid me the purpose of Dogtooth. It's been a while since I've seen it but it's one of those films I still can't figure out. Seems too organized to be random

la grande bouffe.

Miss Violence is another deadpan Greek absurdist-violent drama

I had to turn this off
Felt too familiar

Wes Anderson isn't realism at all

don't ask me

thanks

Thanks for the suggestion, it's already on the watchlist. I wasn't wanting to stick to the new wave of Greek weirdos, but they're welcome.

I would add anything by Apichatpong Weerasethakul to my original list as well. His stuff definitely has a magical realism vibe to it.

The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie
The Exterminating Angel
That Obscure Object of Desire

...

The Lobster and Alps are very similar OP. Lanthimos is very consistent.

Cheers, I'll look into them

Seen them all, quite a big fan of his.
Do you know if Kinetta is any good?
I know my house mate has it on dvd, so i'll be watching it soon.
Definitely looking forward to his new film 'The Killing of a Sacred Deer'

...

>"A group of men hire some prostitutes and go to a villa in the countryside. There, they engage in group sex and resolve to eat themselves to death."

This sounds brilliant.

>surreal realism

it's a brilliant movie with a brilliant cast. highly recommended.

although the villa is certainly not in the countryside but rather in the middle of paris.

Yes.
Films that portray surreal, or absurdist elements as a natural part in an otherwise realistic or mundane environment.

Magical Girl, spanish film with pretty much that deadpan tone

...

The War Zone

added to the list, cheerio boyos
(bump)
what else we got?

...

Dancer in the Dark

stinks

two things ruined this film for me

>fucking rammstein
>fucking angels

does swimmingpool count?

>Julien Donkey Boy
>Gummo

both pretty surreal, both pretty real

kek. the POV shots of her getting slammed by various slobs was pretty funny but I think I was meant to feel bad for her

/heartless/

she was a qt3.14
