Welp Gareth Edwards just left Godzilla 2

The split is "amicable" bit it's not too tough to read between the lines here. The series of headlines about cobbling together a Kong / Godzilla cinematic universe, pushing Godzilla 2 back nine months to make room for the versus movie, etc. etc. The studio is fucking with his movie. Should have seen this coming when he never responded to the the talk about the King Kong crossover stuff.

The first film had its flaws but I'm sad that the's leaving, its flaws were the type that if he listened to the criticism he really could have made a great sequel.

>Director Gareth Edwards Exits ‘Godzilla 2’

>EXCLUSIVE: Gareth Edwards has exited Godzilla 2. I’m told the split was an amicable one for Legendary, Warner Bros and Edwards, who helmed the first film in the series in 2014 and promptly signed on to direct Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which looks from the trailer like it will be a strong next step for that franchise. Edwards has his own gestating projects he wanted to pursue, and they are smaller in scale than the back-to-back tentpole-size pictures he is directing with the Godzilla launch and then the Star Wars spinoff. Max Borenstein wrote the current version of Godzilla 2, which was dated this week for release March 22, 2019.

>Edwards and Legendary had agreed to him stepping out before the picture’s date was set.

>Legendary and Warner Bros are looking for a director to replace Edwards as they also work on Godzilla Vs Kong, which has been set for release on May 20, 2020. The latter film was made possible when Kong: Skull Island was brought back from Universal to Warner Bros, where Legendary made Godzilla. Legendary acquired rights to additional classic characters from Toho’s Godzilla universe including Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah.

>All this paves the way for developing a franchise centered on Monarch and anchored by Godzilla, King Kong and other famous creatures.

Good, his Godzilla is Son of Godzilla tier. He should kill himself too.

Oh no! Who else is going to make a 3 hour Godzilla movie with only 15 minutes of Godzilla screen time, and killing off the interesting main character all the marketing was based on in the first act while following a bland nobody for the majority of the movie?

This. Has Walter White die early in the movie while we're stuck with the milquetoast lead. Then puts the Last Samurai Serizawa in there and give him nothing to do but stand there and look concerned.

Milquetoast should have died, then Walter whites data on muto communication should have been used to attract them instead of a fucking nuke. Then instead of the muto about to kill milquetoast, Walter white could have had a moment where he accepts his fate and is waiting to get killed, right before Godzilla does the kiss of death.

Wonder what this means for his Rodan / Gamera / King Gheedora plans

>killing off the interesting main character

what the dad? His entire "interesting," Story was he was just trying to find out what the fuck the caused the place to crash...it wasn't that interesting. Take your breakingbad shit out of here it wasn't that good

Thank fucking God, maybe now this shit won't suck.

I think what really makes the death of Bryan Cranston's character feel tonally wrong is that Godzilla movies where more often than not centered on scientist characters. Military presence was often used to show how weak humanity was in comparison to the monsters, quickly worked through. There are a few movies with military protagonists, but usually its sort of a sci-fi military and not a real one.

That's what Ken Wasabi was for

He doens't do anything but stand there and look concerned. Cranston was moving the plot before his character died. Ken was inert.

Get John Carpenter out of retirement to helm it. He's a big Godzilla fan.

The real Godzilla scared Legendary and Edwards away.

Star Wars Rogue One is a disaster. The worst case of shadow-directing (and shadow-writing, shadow-producing, shadow-etc.) in a big budget movie since Josh Trank's Fantastic 4. It could shape up well in the end, but would be surprising.

You won't see any cute behind the scenes videos on the blu ray for this one.

This is fallout from Edward's 2nd big-production experience.

>Muh movies are about THE HYOOMANITY
>Human characters are insipid as fuck

source?

Gamera is a jap film cumquat

You seem to be in the know, user.

Cool, Monsters was GOAT

in this case, who was actually directing?

"X saved Rogue One"

Good. That movie was legitimately terrible. I hope Gareth Edwards take Aaron Taylor Johnson and Scarlet Waifu with him.
