Refused and AtD-I inspired a lot of copycat bands. They (especially AtD-I) also got the genre much more mainstream coverage, which led to a lot of bands cashing in on that particular sound rather than bringing anything new to the table. These bands also generally lacked the nuance, eclectic set of influences, and political motive for making music.
